Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Honda Odyssey - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2007 Honda Odyssey we are going to install and take a look at the Draw-Tite Trailer Hook Receiver Class 2 with an 1-1/4" opening, part #36417. This is what our hitch looks like installed on our Honda Odyssey. As you can see, nice square tube construction, same goes to the side brackets on each side, heavy duty welds and has a nice black powder coat finish that's going to resist rust and corrosion. It has an 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" opening, class hitch and does have a 1/2" pitch pin hole. Easy access to your chain hold downs for your safety chains on your trailers. It is rated at 300 pounds of ton weight and 3500 pounds of towing capabilities. You always want to double check your manufacturer's specifications for your vehicle and you want to go with whatever is lowest between your vehicle and the hitch.

And there is a limited lifetime warranty. Now, we'll go ahead and give you some measurements to help choosing some accessories for your new hitch. From this center of our hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 4" and from top of the receiver tube to the ground is 13-1/4". This will help you choose accessories such as bar mounts, bike racks or common carriers. Now we will go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. To start us off I will point out the mounting locations. If you are on the driver's side there are two well nuts built into the frame, right here and right here and those are the mounting locations on this side.

On the passenger side frame rail they are going to be the exact same. Now before we render our hitch into position we will install our hardware. You'll want to clean out the well nuts. Basically just go ahead and use some spray lubricant. Spray it on well nuts and use a tube brush, part #814092, to thoroughly clean the well nuts out and then once you do, you'll want to go ahead and grab a bolt from install kit and make sure it's the right fit for the well nut.

Do that in all four mounting locations. Along the passenger side frame rail, you'll be using these these two well nuts to install the hitch. Now the hardware that comes with the hitch will be your hex head bolt and the inaudible 00:01:46 tooth washer. The washer will go on the bolt, you want to make sure the tooth of the washer faces the hitch, it will between the hitch and into our well nut. With that well nut splayed out, we can go ahead and raise our hitch into position and install our hardware. The nice thing about this is that you don't have to worry about the exhaust.

To get it in place, you actually want to use the exhaust to hold the one side of the hitch as you install the hardware on the driver's side. So we will put this piece up over our exhaust to kind of hold the weight of it, once you have the first bolt in the hitch will then be held into position by that bolt and the exhaust so you can install the rest of your hardware. Now we have the driver's side hardware is done we can move over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. Now once you have your hardware hand-tight we will go to the middle of the car and make sure the hitch is centered before we tighten the back. I like to make sure the hitch is clearly centered on the vehicle so that it's straight and then snug down the hardware. Now the exhaust is in the way just a little bit here on the passenger and all you need to do is just push it over a little bit to get your socket onto the bolt. Now with our hardware snug down we will go ahead and torque as specified in the instructions. Now with our hitch installed and torqued down we can go ahead and hook our trailer up and hit the road. This will do it for our install of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver Class 2 with an 1-1/4" opening part #36417 on our 2007 Honda Odyssey. .

Great item. Great price. Great shipping arrived in 2 days. Perfect fit, already installed on 2013 Honda Odyssey. Great install instructions, plus how to install video on line. Great service and great follow-up from company. Highly recommend. 733775

Fits great, works great. The only trouble I had was getting the bolts fastened on the exhaust side. I think the threads on the bracket were severely corroded, and using the brush cleaner and WD-40 only helped a little. No fault of the trailer hitch receiver though! 541982

Box came badly damaged but no big deal. Installed very easily on my 2015 Odyssey. The trick is having the proper tap for the bolts to make the install go quick. I have installed 4 of my own receivers and this was the easiest so far. The only problem I ran into was that I had to grind some metal off of the metal tube of my bike rack to make it slide into the receiver without getting stuck and that same bike rack has never had a problem fitting into any of my other 3 receivers. Also, no where on the instructions sheet is there any mention of the torque specs although the videos say to torque according to the instructions. 505709

Vincent, thank you for your review. This hitch part # 36417 is a Class 2, 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. If your bike rack is designed for a Class 3 bike rack, it will not fit in this hitch. We do not recommend to grind the metal off of the shank of the bike rack because it could cause future structural issues which could lead to failure. If your bike rack is made for a 2 inch receiver than you can use a hitch reducer such as part # HTAD
Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver
$61.91
. This adapter will reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent. The torque specs for this hitch are on the bottom of page 1 of the installation instructions.

Its been a year and the receiver is still in great shape and is only used for carrying bikes. I had mentioned that my tube on the bike rack did need some grinding to allow it to slide into the receiver properly, and of course I didnt grind down a 2 tube to 1-1/4, as my carrier is/was also used on 3 other vehicles, all with 1-1/4 receivers as well and they all worked fine. Maybe it was just a little extra powder coating that caused it, but it fits and works fine now and seems to be holding up well.

Fantastic product. Very easy to install. With the right tools and a little know how I was able to install by myself without any type of lift. It probably did help that car was fairly new as people have told me that once the holes for the mounting bolts get to be a few years old they rust and fill with road crud making it more difficult. Today it still works extremely well for my bike rack. 355496

I purchased this to accommodate a bicycle rack on my Honda Odyssey. For this it works perfectly. Due to the design of the top of the hatch on recent Odysseys, they cannot take a hanging type bike rack. Dealing with etrailer is easy. Delivery was quick. The video instructions on their web site were perfect. Our bikes are happy; I'm happy. ;-) 221183

I put this on an 07 Honda Odyssey and it was beautifully simple. I used the Curt wiring kit also that just plugs into the junction box behind a trim panel also and that was perfect. We just put some grease on the rubber muffler hangers to pop them loose and we were on our way. My friend helped me and we both were shocked when everything was done in less than an hour and we didn't have to go get anything else to make it work the first time. Thanks for selling 2 great products. 146697

2006 Honda Odyssey

This Draw-Tite hitch seems to be of the highest quality. The install would have been simple, however, our Honda Odyssey is 8 years old and it has spent its whole life in Wisconsin exposed to 8 winters. The nuts in the frame rails were very rusty!! It took some major muscle with a heavy duty wire brush designed for the application and a half a can of WD40 to clean the threads enough to thread the supplied bolts. After getting the the bolts threaded I needed a breaker bar on my ratchet to torque the bolts down. To me it seemed as if the supplied bolts could have been half as long. The install with clean threads would be 30 minutes tops. With the task of cleaning the threads it was close to 120 minutes to complete the install. In the end I am happy with the product quality, fit, and the final appearance, and it feels good to have done the job myself! 132237

The holes in the hitch didn't line up. Three bolts went together perfect, but one was slightly off. I needed a trip to the hardware store for another bolt. Another thing I was uncertain about was the position of the washers. I assumed the raised ribs faced the hitch. 107406

Very easy to install. Already used it to pull a trailer to CT. Only comment I have is once I tightened the 4 bolts the hitch was in contact with the rear bumper and it pushes up on it some. No damage but over time it may chafe on the plastic bumper cover. Otherwise very satisfied with the hitch. 79134

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2010 Honda Odyssey
On your 2010 Honda Odyssey all the trailer hitch receiver options will be noticeable from the back as even the crosstube is exposed. I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # 36417 which is the least noticeable based on size. This is your best option for being discreet. This rating applies to the hitch itself and the Odyssey could potentially have a lower or higher towing capacity depending on the particular engine, transmission and accessory options installed at the factory. For the the Draw Tite part # 36417 is best option. This option is better than the Curt equivalent for your vehicle because it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. For your 2016 Honda Odyssey I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 36417 over the Curt hitch part # C12031 because if you were to use a hitch mounted accessory like a bike rack the Draw Tite does not require the use of a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 like the Curt does. Either hitch would have about the same visibility. Some people prefer the look of square tube over round tube, but realistically both will look about the same.
