Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2015 Honda Odyssey

Box came badly damaged but no big deal. Installed very easily on my 2015 Odyssey. The trick is having the proper tap for the bolts to make the install go quick. I have installed 4 of my own receivers and this was the easiest so far. The only problem I ran into was that I had to grind some metal off of the metal tube of my bike rack to make it slide into the receiver without getting stuck and that same bike rack has never had a problem fitting into any of my other 3 receivers. Also, no where on the instructions sheet is there any mention of the torque specs although the videos say to torque according to the instructions.

Vincent, thank you for your review. This hitch part # 36417 is a Class 2, 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver. If your bike rack is designed for a Class 3 bike rack, it will not fit in this hitch. We do not recommend to grind the metal off of the shank of the bike rack because it could cause future structural issues which could lead to failure. If your bike rack is made for a 2 inch receiver than you can use a hitch reducer such as part # HTAD. This adapter will reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent. The torque specs for this hitch are on the bottom of page 1 of the installation instructions.

Its been a year and the receiver is still in great shape and is only used for carrying bikes. I had mentioned that my tube on the bike rack did need some grinding to allow it to slide into the receiver properly, and of course I didnt grind down a 2 tube to 1-1/4, as my carrier is/was also used on 3 other vehicles, all with 1-1/4 receivers as well and they all worked fine. Maybe it was just a little extra powder coating that caused it, but it fits and works fine now and seems to be holding up well.

2012 Honda Odyssey

The hitch receiver was fine and went on easy. It interferes with the bumper a bit, so I cut a notch in the bumper to accomodate it. In the installation video, it says that the underbody trim panel that needs to be removed should not be reinstalled. I do not know why it says that because I reinstalled that piece and it fit just fine with the hitch installed. The wiring was also an easy installation. I did not like the thought of having the wiring hanging into the trunk area, so I cut a hole in the side trim panel so I could feed the wiring into the storage compartment as shown in the picture.

The product is exactly what I wanted, however the packing/ boxing was substandardZ poor in fact. Both ends of the box had ripped open in transit. My UPS driver was kind enough to ring my bell to inspect it before accepting. All was good. The driver did inform me ALL such products from your company usually end up looking like this as he sees many.
Come on dudes, tighten it up.

2007 Honda Odyssey

I was amazed at the efficiency of your company.
I ordered the trailer hitch receiver and wiring harness on saturday
and received it on tuesday. Wednesday I installed it without a problem. Following the installation videos made it twice as simple.
On my 2007 Honda Odyssey, I did'nt have to lower the tail pipe.
Thanks Etrailer

2014 Honda Odyssey

Fantastic product. Very easy to install. With the right tools and a little know how I was able to install by myself without any type of lift. It probably did help that car was fairly new as people have told me that once the holes for the mounting bolts get to be a few years old they rust and fill with road crud making it more difficult. Today it still works extremely well for my bike rack.

it’s still great! works well and no rust

by:

you guys are awesome. The hitch itself.. it's okay. starting to rust a little at certain spot that shouldn't rust yet... hole alignment wasn't perfect. most of the install problems were on my end.

by:

Hitch was delivered faster than promised. online ordering was easy. Haven't installed hitch yet. Installation videos make it look simple to install.

2016 Honda Odyssey

As advertised, the hitch arrived very quickly (within 2 days!). It's high quality material and was simple to install. The installation video e-trailer provides was spot-on. I am not particularly mechanically inclined and I got the hitch and wiring harness installed inside of 2 hours by myself on my 2016 Honda Odyssey.

by:

Very easy installation. Not easy finding the 1/2" nylon tube brush, wish when buying from etrailer it would show up in the additional items you might need. Came scratched up and not due to shipping, scratches was under rap around cardboard on crossbar. This tells me it was to the packers knowledge this was sent to me this way. A little disturbing since it shows on the Van. Easier not using ramps, less lifting and slid over tail pipe without removing anything. Probably spent 40 min cleaning out one of the weld nuts on van and the rest was a 10 min job.
Shipping was fast and tracking was great.

by:

Very easy to install. Already used it to pull a trailer to CT. Only comment I have is once I tightened the 4 bolts the hitch was in contact with the rear bumper and it pushes up on it some. No damage but over time it may chafe on the plastic bumper cover. Otherwise very satisfied with the hitch.

2010 Hyundai Tucson

This is the 3rd hitch I purchased from etrailer.co over the last 10 years and it could not have been easier to order and shipped very fast. I have a mechanic buddy who helped me with all 3 installs. It is much easier to have the vehicle on a lift. I had no issues with the install and the instruction videos were perfect. The trailer wiring I did myself with no problems thanks to the detailed video. Over the years I always recommend etrailer.com to anyone that is looking for a hitch. This is the best company to buy a hitch from and you can't beat the prices. I will always recommend etrailer and I will be buying another hitch soon for my wifes new Hyundai Tucson.

This item is well-made and we recieved it without any issues or problems. We are a family of 4 and needed this for a bike-rack we are getting.
With our minivan not have a hitch already this was step one of our solution. We did not mount it ourselves, but had a automotive place do it for us for a nominal fee.

I have used it a lot. I have a 5 x 8 ft trailer and a cargo carrier I use on trips. Great fit for my Honda Odyssey, it does not drag on low spots in driveways. Fits out of the way when installed. I would buy it again and again. Best on the market.

2006 Honda Odyssey

This Draw-Tite hitch seems to be of the highest quality. The install would have been simple, however, our Honda Odyssey is 8 years old and it has spent its whole life in Wisconsin exposed to 8 winters. The nuts in the frame rails were very rusty!! It took some major muscle with a heavy duty wire brush designed for the application and a half a can of WD40 to clean the threads enough to thread the supplied bolts. After getting the the bolts threaded I needed a breaker bar on my ratchet to torque the bolts down. To me it seemed as if the supplied bolts could have been half as long. The install with clean threads would be 30 minutes tops. With the task of cleaning the threads it was close to 120 minutes to complete the install. In the end I am happy with the product quality, fit, and the final appearance, and it feels good to have done the job myself!

by:
2007 Honda Odyssey

I put this on an 07 Honda Odyssey and it was beautifully simple. I used the Curt wiring kit also that just plugs into the junction box behind a trim panel also and that was perfect. We just put some grease on the rubber muffler hangers to pop them loose and we were on our way.

My friend helped me and we both were shocked when everything was done in less than an hour and we didn't have to go get anything else to make it work the first time. Thanks for selling 2 great products.

by:
Honda Odyssey

The fit of the hitch is perfect. But, unless you've just bought a new vehicle, there is no way the installation will take 20-30 minutes. Our Odyssey is 4 years old. The threaded inserts for the hitch bolts were rusty and filled with dirt. It took 20 minutes just to clean them out so the bolts would thread in. Then, each bolt took significant muscle to tighten completely. Now that it's on, it's on for good.

It's a great hitch. etrailer shipped quickly (and for free). I am very happy with this purchase.

by:

With only 4 bolts, it should be easy to install this hitch, and it is. Look at the video and you will have no difficulty.

I drove the back wheels of my Ody up on some 4" high wooden ramps to get sufficient clearance to remove the rubber exhaust hangers. Spraying the rubber hangers with silicon lubricant makes removing them much easier.

Since I was working by myself, I used gallon paint cans and some short pieces of 2x4 to get the two ends of the hitch held up just below the frame, so I could start the bolts on each side without having to hold up the hitch while doing it.

Note that the instructions which come with the hitch call for an 18mm wrench/socket for tightening the bolts, when the actual wrench/socket required is a 19mm.

The hitch looks sturdy and well made, and fits closely under the rear of the Ody.

Finally, the personnel at etrailer were very quick to ship the hitch, and I got keeping me informed of the status. I am a very pleased customer, and hightly recommend etrailer.com.

by:

I backed the van up on ramps, cleaned the holes with WD40 and a round brush, slipped the hitch up over the exhaust (no need to remove from the hangers) and installed the bolts and torqued to spec. I think it took me about 10 minutes to do the hitch install. No real need to remove the tailpipe from the hangers, just need to move it to the side to get at the bolts with the ratchet and torque wrench. Very nicely made hitch! I wish I would have known the hitch comes with a rubber plug to keep the crap out, as I ordered one with it. I have 2 of them now.

by:
2006 Honda Odyssey

2006 Honda Odessy, hitch and lighting, videos were perfect, especially the attention to preparing the nuts on the frame, if you don't spend the time to get them clean be prepared for sore arms and new four letter combos while you try to start those bolts and hold the hitch up. Overall your 3 rated difficulty was right on the mark.

Honda Odyssey

I purchased this to accommodate a bicycle rack on my Honda Odyssey. For this it works perfectly. Due to the design of the top of the hatch on recent Odysseys, they cannot take a hanging type bike rack.

Dealing with etrailer is easy. Delivery was quick. The video instructions on their web site were perfect. Our bikes are happy; I'm happy. ;-)

2009 Honda Odyssey

This was actually a replacement for a ten year old hitch on a 2009 Honda Odyssey which got very rusty over the years. The rust is my only complaint. Installation is very easy. Suggest anti-seize on the fine thread bolts before installation. I used a milk crate to support the hitch at installation.

by:
2015 Honda Odyssey

Easy install on my 2011 Odyssey (Touring Edition). I did need to remove the driver side plastic filler box (3 plastic rivets, 1 hex bolt and 1 Phillips screw). Slipped hitch over exhaust on passenger side then supported driver side. Started bolts on passenger side then on drivers side, then tightened all down to spec. Done in 15 minutes.

by:

The holes in the hitch didn't line up. Three bolts went together perfect, but one was slightly off. I needed a trip to the hardware store for another bolt. Another thing I was uncertain about was the position of the washers. I assumed the raised ribs faced the hitch.

  • Does Install of Draw Tite Hitch on 2015 Honda Odyssey Leave Off Lower Bumper Panel
The driver side lower panel of your 2015 Honda Odyssey would not get reinstalled after the install of the Draw Tite hitch part # 36417 since the hitch occupies that space. Tapping the weld nuts is not always needed but sometimes if the vehicle has seen several winters with salt on the road then the threads most likely will end up dirty and need to be tapped. Sometimes you can get by with just cleaning them with a wire brush. The install instructions link is good now as it worked for me....

  • How to Remove Plastic Shield to Install Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 36417 on a 2011 Honda Odyssey
I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite, and they are aware of the plastic shield to which you are referring. They are currently in the process of adding this information to the instructions, so that they will cover the 2011 Honda Odyssey models. If you take a look at the cover, it should be held on by some plastic rivets that can be popped out with a rivet tool. You may be able to retain the shield if you trim it, but more than likely it will be removed entirely. I am including a link...

  • Would Class II Hitch for 2007 Honda Odyssey Be Able to Tow Small Trailer
The Class II hitches for your 2007 Honda Odyssey like the Draw Tite part # 36417 which is a confirmed fit have a decent towing capacity of 3,500 lbs total trailer weight and 300 lbs tongue weight. If the weight of your trailer is under those figures the hitch would be just fine. You'd also need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine the capacities of it as well. • Curt or Draw Tite Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Honda Odyssey
For your 2016 Honda Odyssey I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 36417 over the Curt hitch part # C12031 because if you were to use a hitch mounted accessory like a bike rack the Draw Tite does not require the use of a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 like the Curt does. Either hitch would have about the same visibility. Some people prefer the look of square tube over round tube, but realistically both will look about the same.
