Draw-Tite's Tested Tough guarantee ensures that this hitch exceeds industry standards. Drawbar sold separately.Installation was a bit more difficult than other hitch receivers I've installed. The large carriage bolt heads where a bit too large to fit through the subframe holes. So I had to file the bolt heads down a bit on two sides so they would slot in. The holes for the exhaust bracket did not quite line up so had to over size them slightly, Once I got past these two issues the install is fairly easy. I'm very happy with my purchase. After taking car to local muffler shop to help dismantle exhaust hanger, went home and tackled the installation which took about an hour. Finally figured out to insert bolt butt in first. Bolts are in secure, but hanger screws on passenger side did not align at all, used plastic tie straps instead. Overall, hitch looks good.
I purchased this to install on a 2013 VW Eos. I have installed hitches before and I watched the video install so I wasn't expecting any difficulties. Unfortunately difficulty was in store for me. I jacked up the car and loosened the muffler system as outlined in the video. I noticed that the heat shield did not cover any of the holes that would be used so it wasn't going to be necessary to trim it. Nice. I got the bolts in place as outlined in the instructions and they went in without too much trouble. Also nice. Next I put the hitch in place and started the four nuts on to hold it. This is where the trouble starts. On the passenger side the holes in the plate need to line up with the bolts you just installed and the holes where the muffler hangar bolts back over the hitch mounting plate. Not happening. I removed the nuts from the driver's side mounting plate and tried to maneuver the other plate so everything lined up and almost made it. The problem was that shifting the right side plate over caused the crossbar to contact the bottom of the trunk, leaving over a quarter inch gap between the left side plate and the frame rail. Not nice. Also trying to get the replacement (longer) hangar bolts into the holes has damaged them beyond their ability to be threaded into anything. By now I'm an hour and a quarter into this and I know it's hopeless. Removed the hitch and tightened the nuts down to hold the bolts in place in the frame rail. Drill over sized holes in the right plate where the muffler support will bolt in, paint it with a good gloss black enamel to match the rest of it and after letting it dry wile I search for replacement bolts for the damaged ones. Found them, but had to buy 12. Fine. Once they arrive, give it another go. This time the alignment of the holes is not an issue, but the crossbar is still touching the bottom of the trunk and there is still about a 3/16 gap between the left side plate and the frame rail. If the crossbar had been designed with the bend 1 inch closer to the left side plate, there would not be an issue. By now I was pretty tired of working on this so I just torqued everything down. If there had been an alternate hitch available I would have abandoned this one, taken the loss and installed something else. Unfortunately this is the only game in town. After installing it I attached the new Aero VeeMe that I bought. I noticed that the rack had a definite lean toward the back of the car, indicating that the receiver on the hitch is not level even though it's in contact with the entire frame rail at this point. Since I only want it for a single bike that will be mounted to the outside of the rack, this is not a huge issue for me. If you wanted to carry 2 bikes on a rack then DON'T buy the Aero VeeMe, there will not be enough room to mount another bike between the rack and the back of the car due to the angle caused by the hitch.
The instruction were fine and the videos that were on the web site really did help. I had the use of a lift which made it a whole lot easier that laying on the ground. only problem was one of the muffler bracket hole did not line up easily. The little wire guides worked amazing if I had had my hemostats from my tackle box would have been a nice. Overall great product and it arrived a day early and I have it installed already.
Robert H - 08/17/2016The product was better than advertized. The surface coating was impressive and all accessory parts (nuts, bolts, etc.) were of good quality. I took the trailer hitch to my local Big-O tire dealer and the mechanic said it would be a piece of cake to install. Only cost me 40 bucks! Before I decided to purchase your product, I had an estimate from my local RV dealer of over $600 which included the wire harness. My total cost with your product is coming in at $245. Also, the RV dealer was only providing a Class II versus your Class I. I will be pulling a small enclosed utility trailer to and from Florida annually as we are"Snow Birds". I purchased the VW Eos and it had no trailer hitch for the existing utility trailer. So, you solved that situation in a big way. I am a very happy customer and would recommend you to my closest friends. PS: When I get the trailer hooked up, I will send some photos with and without the trailer hooked up.
The hitch installed and performed as advertised. I had my local mechanic install the hitch in my 2013 Volkswagen EOS. This is my second hitch from etrailer.com and I would recommend them to anyone looking for this type of product. So far it's held three bikes on a Thule bike rack without a problem.
Hitch was mounted on a 2007 VW EOS. Hitch arrived in good shape with all parts & assembly instructions. I took it to a local tire dealer to install, and even though it's not really their area of expertise and they'd never seen this hitch before, they got it installed in <1hr with no problems. There was no cutting of the heat shield needed, although they did need to bend it back a few inches where it overlapped the hitch mounting points. Hitch appears to be solid with no wiggle, and easily supports the Swagman XTC2 bike rack I ordered at the same time. The only minor issue was that the tolerances are pretty tight, and the inside of the receiver had some grit left over from manufacturing embedded in the paint. This made it hard to insert/remove the bike rack; at one point the rack was so stuck I needed to use a hammer and block of wood to knock the rack off the hitch. Some grease and inserting/removing it a dozen times or so loosened things up.
I purchased a Volkswagen EOS and needed a way to carry my bikes that would allow opening and closing of the roof. This item is exactly as advertised. The installation video made installing the hitch a breeze. While it would have made installation a little easier, it was not necessary to jack up the rear of the car.
Good product, delivered quickly. Installation kit complete and very hellpful, especially the fish wires. Great installation instructions and online video. Installation was easy for one person and would have been flawless but I pinched my hand w/ the jackstand.

Was easy to install, but the hole for the muffler bracket was off by 1/2 inch. It is best to measure and make new holes before installing.

Kit arrived missing one of the flat stock carriage bolt holders. Also shipped without the draw bar that is specifically listed as included. Hitch hardware looks solid and good. Installation will be easy when all parts arrive.

Hitch fits good and looks great. Wife concerned about looks of hitch on her convertible, but even she was happy. Took about 2 hours by myself, not real easy, but worth the trouble!

Hitch fit pretty dar good. Had a bit of trouble getting the muffler bracket back on and tight. Once on it works great. Took us 65 minutes, not too bad!
