Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2001 Infiniti I30 - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2001 Infiniti I30 we'll be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24686. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 6". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 10-1/4". Now we'll go ahead and with installation. Now to begin our install we'll first need to locate and make a mark underneath the lower fascia at the center of the vehicle using the rear vehicle emblem or two equal marks on either side, measuring and making a mark.

Then, using an extra set of hands, we're going to put the hitch up against the rear bumper beam and lower trunk pan, center it on the vehicle, and mark out four attachment holes. We'll go ahead and drill out the holes in the bumper beam to fit our 1/2" hardware. We'll use a step bit process starting with a smaller pilot bit and opening up to our 1/2" size as per the instructions. Using our tape measure we'll find a centering point and the center of the rear bumper, where we'll need to drill out the access hole. Once we make our mark and drill out our pilot hole we'll drill out the access hole with a hole saw up to 1" size. Now with the holes in the bumper drilled out we can go ahead and install our hardware.

We'll be using a 1/2" bolt, split lock washer, and large flat washer, along with a 1/2" handle nut to secure these attachment points. It is specifically required to install the galvanized isolators between the metal hitch and the aluminum bumper or any aluminum portion. With the supplied isolators we'll go ahead and install them over each of the attachment points. Once we have it installed we'll then go ahead and take a utility knife or a razor blade and cut out around the attachment point hole. Now with our hitch prepared we'll go ahead and install it, again, securing it at the rear attachment points only at this time. We'll put our hitch into position, feed the handle nuts through the access hole, and over the attachment points.

It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install these fasteners. Then we'll feed the hardware through the hitch, through the bumper, and secure it into the handle nut. Once we get it installed finger tight we'll go ahead and run them down making sure our hitch is still centered and squared with the vehicle. Using the hitch as a template we'll go ahead and drill out the forward attachment points using our pilot bit and then our final size, the 1/2" bit. Now with them drilled out we'll go ahead and get into the spare tire well, where we've already removed the spare tire.

With our holes drilled we'll go ahead and clean around the pre-drilled holes. Next we'll go ahead and take the Loctite RTV gasket maker, part number LT37467, to put around the pre-drilled holes so once they are secured it will prevent any leaks coming up through the spare tire well. With our sealer in place we're ready to go ahead and install the hardware. For our forward attachment points we'll be using the 1/2" carriage bolt and block, large 1/2" flat washer, then our split lock washer and 1/2" nut. We'll go ahead and take the carriage bolt and block and drop them down through the trunk pan through the hitch, and then secure it underneath with the flat washer, split lock washer, and nut. Once we have them both installed finger tight, we'll go ahead and run them down. Now with all our fasteners secured we'll go ahead and torque them to specifications as indicated in the instructions. That does it for our install of the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24686, on our 2001 Infiniti I30. .

2000 Nissan Maxima

Install on 2000 Nissan Maxima Using hitch mount Thule Roadway 912xt bike carrier Very well built, fairly easy to install. Use the tips provided by etrailer and you will have less trouble. The only thing that worried me on install was the bolt leader. I had NEVER used one and wasn't sure what to do, but figured it out. My only slight gripe is the directions. They are a little vague and don't offer much help. Not bad, but for someone who has never installed any type of hitch, they may be confusing. There were also several bolts left over that didn't get used, which made me a little worried, but I could not find any place that they could be put. Extras maybe? Maybe, but that info should be in the directions. All in all, very solid hitch that I use to transport my bikes. I wish I could hold more weight, but that is due to the limitations of my car and the hitch. Make sure you buy the correct hitch accessory, as this hitch will only accept CLASS I receiver products. 33072

Nissan Maxima

I had no trouble installing this hitch on my maxima. Very straight forward...Had to remove to bolts and a couple muffler rubber gromets/holders to get the the car ready to receive the hitch. I fished all three of the passenger side bolts through the frame with the threaders first and also held the hitch in place with my floor jack to keep in lined up correctely without have to balance. The negative part is after the hitch was installed, my bike rack was A REALLY TIGHT FIT!!! It probably took 15 minutes to get the thing to slide in to the receiver...I even had to sand away some of the paint on the rack!! Total install was probably an hr, but if I had to do it again, probably halft that since I now know what Im doing. It looks good and will serve its purpose! 44088

I saw it on the internet , It looked good for the price so i called and ordered it, the people were all so nice. It was here faster than expected, within a day or two, It was a easy install almost any one could do. I would buy another, or recomend it to a friend, everything went smoothly till the very end I attempted to take its picture but this is what it did, living up to it's name, it just went off and hid. 47296

1998

This hidden hitch is solid, and is hidden well on my 1998 Maxima. This installed relatively easily. The only problem that I had was installing the bolts through the frame, which I had to use a different route than the instructions had shown. I have hauled a U-Haul trailer over 6 hours with a motorcycle. I have had zero problems with this item. I would recommend this to anyone interested 118453

2002 Nissan Maxima

not easy to install, due to car's (nissan maxima 2002) not threded 3 holes on the passinger side above the mufler. You have to fish them through the further back hole, and not to lose them - use lock-grip pliers on the end of the wire to secure them while positioning the hitch over the screws, and also to hold them when starting to put washers to secure them. took me 1 and 1\2 hours to install it. 126342

Product was delivered very quickly in appropriate box, there were slight scratch marks on underside so i suggest more plastic wrapping around entire bars. Instructions were just a little ambiguous but not bad. Product shipped with two extra hardware bolts that were not used in assembly. 71627

Fit was good one bolt did not aline up with the car frame very good but was workable. I plan to pull a light weight trailer with the hitch. This is the 3rd hitch I have purchased from ā€œEā€ Trailer over the years. 48665

The installation was relatively simple for a do-it-yourselfer and I have had no negative issues with it since. I use it to tow a small trailer with an electric wheelchair and it works great for my purposes. 265798

This hitch went on very easily. I was skeptical that we could get the bolts and backing plates into position with the wire guides provided but it was easy! The fit is excellent. 48723

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Hitch Needed for 1995 Nissan Maxima
  • The hitch you referenced, the Draw-Tite Class I Receiver, part # 24796 fits the 2009-2011 Maxima or the 2007-2011 Altima only. For your 1995 Maxima, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class I Receiver, part # 24686 or the Curt Class I, part # 11255. The Draw-Tite model attaches to the vehicle under the bumper and the trunk pan. I prefer the way the Curt receiver attaches, as it uses two additional attachment points to the bumper structure. Because of the stronger attachment, the Curt model...

  • Cargo Carrier # 52017 Recommendation for a 2000 Nissan Maxima
  • For your 2000 Nissan Maxima I would recommend you get a 20x48 Cargo Carrier # 52017 as this cargo carrier is compatible with vehicles that have Class I hitches like what would be on your vehicle. This carrier would do well on your 4,000 mile road trip. The Cargo Carrier # 63155 that you referenced would not work for you since it is only for vehicles with Class II hitches and there are no Class II hitches available for your vehicle. I attached an FAQ article on hitch classifications for...
