Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

At we're committed to the products we sell, and to our customers. Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 24681 from Draw-Tite on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. You can see here at the bottom of the bumper there are two smaller holes that we are going to use as the rearmost attaching point. These two holes are going to need to be enlarged to 1/2 inch, and then we will feed our block and bolt into position. Also, a little bit forward here, you can see the main crossmember just rearward of the spare tire well. We are going to use the outboard holes on each side as the forwardmost attaching points. To get our hardware into this position, we are going to need to fish wire our bolt and block through this larger access hole here toward the end of the crossmember. So the first thing we are going to do is go ahead and fish the bolts and hardware into the forward crossmember, and then we will enlarge our holes here at the rear. In order to fish the bolts into this forwardmost crossmember, I am going to take a standard piece of what is called "stove wire," and what I am going to be doing is go ahead and feed it through the hole that we are going to be putting the hardware in and back out through the access hole here at the end of the crossmember. From there, we are going to take our 7/16 block and our 7/16 carriage bolt and we are going to feed it through the frame. What we are want to do is just feed the stove wire through the block and then we are just going to take and wrap the threads of the bolt with it. And then from there we can just feed the block into the crossmember, followed by the bolt, and we will just pull that into position. Okay, and we are going to do the very same thing here on the driver's side.

Okay, the next step is to go ahead and enlarge the two holes here on the rear bumper channel. We are going to enlarge these to 1/2 inch. Okay, then next we want to go ahead and feed the large, 1/2-inch block through the opening here in the bumper channel right over the existing hole that we just enlarged. And then we want to take our 1/2-inch carriage bolt and just set it into position. And we are going to do the same for the other hole that we just enlarged. And, with all the bolts in place, we can go ahead and put our hitch up into position. And be careful when we put the hitch up into position that we do not push any of our hardware back up into the frame. Here at the rear we want to make sure that we use the 1/2-inch conical-tooth washer and 1/2-inch nut. And on the forwardmost attaching points we want to be using the 7/16 conical-tooth washer and the 7/16 nut. And then lastly we want to go ahead and torque all the bolts down. You want to check with your instructions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. Okay, with your bolts torqued down, our installation is complete. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 24681 on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala.

At this point, we can go ahead and start installing the hitch on the vehicle. We will put the passengers side bracket over the exhaust and let the exhaust hold it up for a bit while we get the drivers side bolt holes lined up. Now that we have got all the hardware started, we can go ahead and snug them down. With the bolts snugged down, now we can give them their final torque, as specified in the instructions. All that remains now is to go ahead and reinstall the rubber hanger onto our exhaust. And that finishes our install of install part number 36407 from Draw-Tite.

2004 Chevrolet Impala

Hitch seems of good quality and was a fairly easy install alone. Putting the back of the car up on ramps gave me enough room to easily drill the rear holes bigger and the use of the OEM car jack to hold the hitch in place while I tightened the nuts.

Hitch still leaves room for clearing curbs which is a big deal for those of us who back in everywhere. it has a higher clearance than the tailpipe.

Recommendation, if you also purchase the light wiring harness for 04 impala, put it on first, the receiver plug wire fits perfect thru the hitches center gap at the rear of the car.

Etrailer get 5 stars. I received my order in 2 days. The instructions was accurate. The on line video very helpful. The price of the product was a good value.Etrailer made it easy to purchase the correctTrailer Hitch Receiver,Wiring Harness,Drawbar.Hitch Ball for my car. Thanks Etrailer.

2000 Chevrolet Impala

The receiver hitch for my 2000 Impala is great! I wanted a bolt on hitch for my bike rack to quickly attach to for hauling my bike to various locations. The receiver hitch bolted right on with no issues. This allows me to keep miles off my newer truck, enjoy good gas mileage, and enjoy the great outdoors! I highly recommend for trailering needs!

No issues, but I sold the car it was on a couple of months ago

2003 Chevrolet Impala

Was not expecting my 2003 Chevy impala to tow a trailer halfway across the country but sadly I had lost it due to an accident from flipping my car

2003 Chevrolet Impala

This product has proven to be exactly what I needed to enable me to enjoy summer afternoons on the sailboat! I was looking for a fair priced trailer hitch to put on the back of my car and I came across this model. I decided to go for it and purchased it. The product arrived on schedule and was quick and easy for my mechanic to install. So far I have been using it for several weeks and it has provided consistent reliability when pulling my small sailboat too and from the dock. I would definitely recommend this hitch to anyone looking for a simple way to get a small trailer to and from a location using your car.

It helps if you back your car onto ramps four more room. Also, if you just push a thin wire or hanger through the bolt holes for the back of the brace (closer to the front of your car) out to the larger holes in the sides of the frame and then place the bolt into the rectangular support plate. I found that if you use a heavy fishing line our a narrow piece of string you can easily pull that back through the bolt hole. Just wrap the string around the threads and tie it tight (a wrap of electrical tape would not hurt just to be sure you do not lose your bolt and bracket) in the frame. Then feed the bolt and bracket into the larger hole and BAM it pulls out of the mounting holes easily. I have some experience fishing things, but it only took about 10 min to do both sides. Then bolt the back of the hitch on and be careful not to push the bolt back up into the frame. Do not fully tighten the back bolts until you drill out the front holes (near the bumper) out for the bolt to fit. Then just place the smaller bolts into the square bracket and push them through from behind then fully tighten all four of the bolts and you cane have this hitch on in way less than an hour. I am so glad I did not go and spend a fortune at u-haul and did the work on my own. It does help to have a second person to hold the hitch at times) The electrical is pretty easy also just take off your rear lights and make sure you splice into the proper electrical wires. I was very happy with my purchase and will not buy a hitch any-where else!!

2005 Chevrolet Impala

Draw-tite hitch 24681 is super easy to install, make sure you have item C58410 and a high quality 1/2 inch drill bit ahead of time. having both can cut install time to under 15 minutes. It's a class 1 so the hitch is super light weight. I used ramps to bring the rear of the vehicle up. It worked great.

Put on the hitch in no time at all after watching on line video. The next night I put on the wiring harness. Both parts went on easily, just like displayed in the video. Another great product with excellent customer service. I think this was the fourth hitch from etrailer - it just gets better each time.

The product is a good value. Installing your own hitch is not a difficult job as long as you have a torque wrench. The most difficult part was using the fishwire to pull two of the bolts through without losing them in the frame. Lost 1 bolt and spent an extra 20 minutes recovering it, but otherwise no problems. Product fit fine and works well.

The Draw-Tite hitch receiver arrive on time. The installation went smooth. The on-line video from e-trailers web site really made the difference in the installation (it would have been difficult with just the written instructions that came with the package). I was a little worried about having to “fish” the support bolts through the car frames access opening and into the bolt holes (I was worried about the wire coming off). In the end there was no problem.

2001 Chevrolet Impala

Very good hitch, It took about a half hour to put on my 2001 Impala. Also the wiring harness took about the same time. very good product's.
