Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Cherolet Express Van

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Chevy Express van, we're going to be taking look at, and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Max Frame multi-fit Class III trailer hitch receiver, part number 37136. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. As you can see, it does hand down a little bit low. This van does sit high, so it's not going to be an issue. It's going to be a Class III. It's going to be two inch by two inch. Has a nice thick cross tube.

Has connection points for adjustable inner tubes that go inside your cross tube. Going to have a 5/8 inch hitch pin hole. It's going to have a reinforced collar for a little bit of extra stability for your receiver tube. Now, this is going to have a 500 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. It's going to have a 5,000 pound max trailer weight, which is the trailer, plus the load included. Now, I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight.

You're going to want to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. Now, you can use weight distribution with this hitch. Your tongue weight's going to go up to 600 pounds max. And your trailer weight's going to go up to 6,000 pounds max. Now, we will give you a couple measurements to help you in deciding on any hitch mounted accessories you may need, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outer most part of the bumper, will be about three inches.

From the ground to the top inner most part of the receiver tube, will be about 11-1/2 inches. To begin your installation, you're going to have two brackets, you're going to have driver and passenger side. You can see that it kind of has a point on it. You want to make sure that the point is facing toward the back of the vehicle, and that this edge is facing toward the center of the vehicle. So, here on our passenger side, it would look like this. So, what we're going to have to do here, is you can see, we have one hole that lines up, we're going to have to drill another hole back here. We'll just take a paint marker, find the center of this oblong hole here, in the back of this bracket.

Mark the center of it. First thing we're going to do, is drill a pilot hole. Next thing we're going to do, we're going to enlarge that to a 1/2 inch.Because you have open metal, take some spray paint, can be clear coat if you want, and we're going to spray that hole really good, kind of prevent rust. So, next we're going to take our half inch carriage bolt with a spacer block, and right up on the inside here, of the frame, you'll see a big hole, we're going to take that, and we're going to drop it down through the hole we just driller. And you'll have another one here at this front hole. In the front hole. Then we're going to take our bracket, slide our bolts into the holes on our bracket. Next we're going to take a flat washer, and we're going to follow it with a split lock washer, and then, our nut. We'll do the same process on this back one. Flat washer, split lock washer, followed by the nut. And you're going to do the same process on the other side of the vehicle. We're going to have our two brackets that are going to go onto the end of our cross tube. You can see, it comes one way off of this tube. What you want, is you want that to be facing toward the front of the vehicle like that. All you got to do, is slide it in to the end. You'll see there's a notch here. On the back side, there's another. So what we're going to do, is we're going to slide this in per the instructions, and where we want it, is this center hole here. We're going to be going to that hole there on the front side.So we're going to take our pull-wire, we're going to feed it through the hole. We're going to come out right here at the end of the hitch. So, now we'll take our carriage bolt, spacer block, then you're going to thread it onto the spring end of your pull wire. And keep in mind, you want to use the short carriage bolts, and push our spacer block in. Then we'll follow it with our carriage bolt. And we're going to pull through like this. Now, make sure you don't just pull this wire off, because we're going to need it for the other three bolts. We're going to unthread it. Next, we're going to put on the nut. Now you can see here, holes on our bar we're off-centered, we're going to be going through this hole. Spacer block, and carriage bolt. Pull through. And then you're going to repeat that on the other side. Next, take a 3/4 inch socket, and tighten down our hardware. We're just going to hand tighten these for now. We want this bracket to be able to slide, so if we need to make any adjustments, when we put it on the vehicle, we're able to do that. Now, with an extra set of hands, we want to get our hitch, with our attached brackets on the inside of our brackets that are on our frame. So we're going to take our narrow neck bolt, you can see there's teeth on the side here, on the neck. We're going to go from the inside out.And you can see how short it is. What we're going to do is, we're going to take our nut, we'll take a 3/4 inch socket, and we're going to tighten this to cinch this bolt through the hole. So once you got the bolt pulled through, we'll remove the nut, add your lock washer, and put your nut back on.So, we're going to have three along the bottom of each side. Then you're going to repeat the same process as you did on this one, with the rest of them. Once you have all your hardware in place, we're going to go ahead and start tightening everything down. I'm going to start with these here. You're going to do the same thing on the other side. Next, we'll do these. Once you have all these tight, you can tighten these. Once you have all your hardware installed, tightened down, we'll torque it down to the specifications in the instructions. And that'll do it for Draw-Tite Max Frame multi-fit Class III trailer hitch receiver, part number 37136, on our 2014 Chevy Express van.

The hitch install went well, the only issue I had was there are side bumper brackets that had to be relocated. The instructions were not clear where to mount the bracket. I guessed where to attach it, I suspect its going to be fine. The hitch drops the bumper down a bit, I can see more under the truck than I'd prefer. The ordering and shipping process was fantastic, very much the personal touch. I tried to order this hitch via Amazon, but it got canceled, good thing as I saved $100 on etrailer! 392431

This Class 3 hitch was 1st class in design and construction. Installation was much harder for me than others reported a mere couple hours to complete. I had to drill 4 very tough holes into the steel frame and that wore out several drill bits. Working alone causes mounting complications as the hitch weighs about 45 lbs and has awkward balance. I used my pneumatic adjustable-height work stool to hoist it into position to bolt it in. 423750

The drawtite receiver hitch was a breeze to install. Yes, directions cover MANY applications, but easy to navigate through to install. Breath of fresh air in comparing put on one of today's "cram everything in a small space" vehicles of today. Didn't even haveta drop spare- lotsa room on Suburbans for quick, easy install. 1 1/2 hours for hitch and wire harness! 400077

Would rather have a custom fit hitch than a universal fit hitch. The attachment point to the frame of the vehicle is questionable. It should be attached to the side of the frame instead of the bottom of the frame. 421896

Draw-tite hitch you ordered is a multi-fit hitch. There are custom fit hitches for your 2002 GMC Sonoma depending your vehicle style. If your GMC Sonoma is a sportside style with a non-towing bumper, a ZR2 model, or a factory step bumper style I recommend Draw-tite custom fit hitch # 75085

. If your GMC Sonoma is has a factory roll pan bumper I recommend a Curt brand custom fit hitch 13920.

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Max-Frame in Trailer Hitch

Lexus wants something like $1,200 to install a hitch like this, so I searched for a DIY option. This hitch arrived from Etrailer within days. They prepared a custom product page for me complete with instructions, Q&A and all the help I could need. Including unpacking and head-scratching time, installation took me about an hour. The only tricky part was getting the hitch receiver up and in place by myself. It would have been a bit easier with a buddy, but with a little gymnastics and core strength, I was able to suspend it in place while hand-tightening the bolts in place. In all, I'm glad I went this route instead of going through the dealership. Tips: 1) you'll definitely need a socket wrench with 18mm and 19mm heads and at least a 3" neck extension. There's no way to fake this with a wrench. 2) I used the jack from my car and 2nd from my wife's to keep the exhaust system from falling to the ground once unbolted. The instructions suggest using ratchet straps, but the jacks are easier if you have them on hand. 213147

It fitted on my 2017 nx200 Fsport perfectly Self install and it took about 30 mins ( definitely need a second hand to hold up the hitch or have something to keep it in position like I did with a couple of 2x4 woods) It did lower my exhaust about an inch which I don't mind Great product 418325

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Max-Frame in Trailer Hitch

I ordered a Draw-Tite hitch and electrical harness for our NX 200t. The idea was to put the hitch myself and torque it on and then have an expert snap the trailer wiring on when I got it. All went well and we are just waiting for our kayak trailer now. The Draw-Tite is a good looking hitch and seems to be well made. We are looking forward to finding out whether the hitch and wiring will work well into the future for us. I see no reason that they won't. I had seen where others putting this hitch on saw that their exhaust tips lowered after they finished. They are correct. Our tips are no more than an inch lower than previous factory measurements. This is after torquing them to 92 ft-lbs. They still look awesome....no problem! 412480

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Max-Frame in Trailer Hitch

Just installed this hitch on a 2017 Lexus NX200T, fits great and went right in. do recommend 2 people to make it easier, difficult to do it all yourself with holding the hitch in place and trying to get bolts started. Only complaint I have is it dropped my exhaust pipe tips about 1-1.5 inches from stock because of how the hitch goes in under the exhaust vibration dampeners. Not a large issue but you can see it in the picture provided. 335968

Review from a similar Draw-Tite Max-Frame in Trailer Hitch

This is the second etrailer hitch I've purchased and I can't say enough good about the product. My auto dealer wanted $2,000 to install a similar product. I purchased the hitch for under $200 and installed it myself. It installed with such ease. It took me less than a half hour to complete installation. The product itself is manufactured well and since I had one before on my other vehicle I know it works well. I tow 2 mountain bikes on it and it's never failed. I HIGHLY recommend this product and this company. Hope this helps. 211882

Would have liked a simple instruction list of exactly what to do to install. I spent more time figuring out what to do - than it took to actually install. ie. just remove 4 bolts from the two exhaust hanger bases, let exhaust just hang there, swing exhaust bases down out of the way, support hitch on jack and manuver into place, swing exhaust bases back up over hitch base and put the 5 provided bolts in place. This was a very simple and easy install!!!!!! 323598

Piece of cake to install. I did mine on my own and struggled a bit to get the first set of holes lined up. So I agree with the previous statements that this would have been easier with two people. I used a floor jack under the muffler, removed all of the bolts and dropped it down about 3". The hitch easily slid right into place and I used a jack stand on one side while I started the bolts on the other. From start to finish it was approx. 2 beers and 1 hour. 376012

I was impressed not only by the speed of the delivery of the hitch and electrical, but also by the instructions. It took me 1 hour to install the hitch only because the weight of the hitch required that I use several jacks to hold it in place while I got the bolts in place. That was the difficult part. I suggest you have two people install this if you are a novice. 192649

Product arrived on time & in good condition. It was very easy to install with an extra set of hands to support the hitch during bolt-in. This would be a very difficult install by yourself. The extra set of hands is critical. The dealer wanted $1,000 for this job. What a JOKE! Less than $200 to etrailer and 20 minutes of my time. WINNING! 380296

  • Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer With a 2003 Ford Ranger
  • Yes, your 2003 Ford Ranger can tow a trailer. You will want to consult your owner's manual for the Tongue Weight (TW) capacity and Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) capacity of your Ranger. These are the things that you will need to look at when looking at trailers to tow. There isn't really a maximum length that you can tow because it is based off of the weight of the trailer. • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring for 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan Towing 1993 Ranger Boat
  • For your 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, there are two separate hitches I recommend based on if you have Stow-N-Go seating or not. If you DO NOT have Stow-N-Go seats, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Multi Fit - Class III - 2" # 37136. If you DO have the Stow-N-Go seats, then I recommend # 75305. For your wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118300. This harness plugs into your factory wiring harness, which...

  • Why Does Weight Capacity for Draw-Tite Hitch 37136 Drop When Installed on 1999 Chevrolet Astro
  • Draw-Tite hitch # 37136 includes the notation about a specific weight capacity since the hitch itself can handle more weight than the vehicle can based on how this hitch will install on the frame. You will notice that all of the other hitches offered for the 1999 Astro van, all are shown on the linked page, have different mounting brackets that install on a different frame surface, the top rather than the sides. Part # 37136 mounts to the sides of the vehicle frame, rather to the top...

  • Will Trailer Hitch From 1999 Chevrolet Silverado Fit A 1999 Chevrolet Suburban
  • The trailer hitch that came off the 1999 Silverado will not fit the 99 Suburban. The structure of the hitch and the mounting flange and holes are different. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball...
