Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado - Curt

All right. Today on this 2003, Chevrolet Silverado, we're going to install part number C15703 from Curt. All right, this is what the hitch will look like once it's installed on the truck. Next we'll give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 17-1/4". From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about 2-1/2". Now we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.

The first thing we need to do is go ahead and remove the 14-Mike Manke bolts there at the very end of the frame. Now we'll keep these bolts because we'll need to reuse them to install the hitch. All right, next we'll go ahead and show you how the hardware works with the hitch. First off, our existing bolt and washer will go back in the same spot at the end of the frame, and the next hole going forward gets this bracket that gets installed onto the inside edge of the hitch, and gets installed with a carriage bolt and 2 flange nuts. Then the top part of that bracket will be underneath the frame, and then the carriage bolt and a block.

There's 2 different lengths of blocks. Now, for this fastener, it gets the shorter of the 2. And then our final fastener going towards the front of the truck will get the long block, a carriage bolt, and a flange nut. Now we showed you the driver's side. This would be identical on the passenger side. Okay, now is a good time to get an extra set of hands to help hold up the hitch, and we'll go ahead and install the original fasteners at the end of the frame.

Then we'll go ahead and install our bracket, where our next hole is going towards the front. We'll go ahead and line up the hole that matches with the frame, and then install the hardware. Now when we install all our hardware, we'll make sure it's all loose until we put in our final part. Now we'll go ahead and do our hardware that goes towards the front of the truck. A carriage bolt with a long block will go through the large hole.

Then we'll install our flange nut. This will be identical on the passenger side. We'll tighten down all our bolts, and then we'll torque them down as specified in the instructions. And with that, our hitch is already installed. And that will finish it for our install of part number C15703 from Curt, on our 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. .

Well made. Easy to install. Bolted up with no drilling. I thought it was going to hang too low from looking at the pictures but it's only about half inch lower than the factory hitch. 642851

Well built. I have a 04 Chevy 2500HD , Hitch will work, but mounting does not align to chassis. No bracket for wire hardness, I had to make my own. 574544

When I discovered that my factory installed hitch was only rated for 7500lbs I knew I needed something different. Etrailer came through again. This hitch is exactly what i needed. My camper has a GVW of 12K and i have the weight distribution hitch. Easy to install and the 4" drop just what i needed to lower my bumper also. 595135

Great hitch and perfect fit for my truck. Was really a 2 man job but got it done by myself. The factory hitch is kind of a pain to get off on the 2008 HD as there are bolts up right at the bumper line. The new one fit like a glove i did add to shackles to allow my safety chains to attach a little easier. Great product great customer service. etrailer is the best i love these guys have bought lots of stuff from them and will definitely continue to buy more. Thanks 469399

2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Had to replace the factory hitch on our 2001 3500 Silverado due to rust issues, it took about 15 minutes to impact the old bolts out, 5 minutes to open the box and get the new hardware situated, and about 10 minutes to hang the new hitch and put loctite on all the fasteners. about 45 minute complete job including getting tools out and putting away. We also have this same hitch on a 2005 2500HD and have zero complaints and it has been in service for 2 years. If we buy another truck without a hitch or need to replace one, this is the hitch that will be ordered and it will come from etrailer.com. 358738

Hangs a little lower than I had anticipated, but, now I won't need ab big of a drop hitch. all fasteners are carriage bolts so no fumbling with wrenches, just put on the loctite and tighten them down. Took about 35 minutes to install, (that includes getting tools out and putting them away) but it was helpful to have another set of hands to hold it in position. 215228

I like the quality of Curt products. When putting such a heavy load on my truck I don't worry about product failure. I needed this hitch to be able to handle an extreme tongue load not so much for max weight pulling. 603176

Great product.bought 3 curt hitchs for customer trucks and all fit perfectly. Only thing I wish curt would do make some sort of mount for the factory gm 7 way from old hitch.the curt hitch is also at least two times stronger than the factory gm 591833

MUCH better than the factory hitch. Towing a heavy 34' camper with a 1400# tongue weight is no problem for this hitch. The only problem I had was the need to replace the hooks on the safety chains to fit (old hooks too small). I have no problem recommending this hitch. 395121

Truck: 2008 Chevrolet 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 Hitch fit perfectly. It does hang a little lower than factory hitch. I did not have to drill any holes, nor did I have to drop the spare tire. Packaging was damaged, but the hitch is very heavy (70lbs). Therefore they only way to really prevent any damage would be to put it on a pallet and that would increase shipping cost I'm sure. I am pleased with end result. 309265

Folks this is a very beefy hitch , no dought it'll Handle just about anything ,18,000 pounds is a lot! I don't think there's that much steel in the rest of my truck combined. The workmanship is really good, you won't regret owning this hitch i've owned a lot of trucks and trailers and this is probably the best hitch I've ever seen 233422

Order arrived within 3 days of placing the order. The box was damaged upon arrival, and when initially opened I could not locate the hardware kit, or the wiring kit I had ordered at the same time. I e-mail customer service about the potential issue, and Judy M replied with instructions on where the items would be located in the box, Rebecca N also replied with a plan of action to get the replacements out to me. When I more closely inspected the contents, the hardware kit and the wiring kit were in the exact place Judy said that they would be. This is excellent customer service, and excellent loss prevention!!! Something this heavy will certainly receive damage to the box during shipment, and etrailer took precautions to eliminate the risk of loss. 170314

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Distance from Bumper to Top of Curt Trailer Hitch C15703 on a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500
  • Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15703 hangs pretty low on a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500. From the bottom of the bumper to the top of the hitch receiver it is approximately 4 inches. I have included a picture showing the gap. A similar hitch, # C15302, which also fits your truck is much tighter to the bumper with only a fraction of an inch of space between the bumper and receiver.

  • Recommendation for Upgrading to 18K Trailer Hitch on 2006 Chevy Silverado
  • Going to an 18,000 pound rated trailer hitch on your 2006 Chevy Silverado 3500 will indeed require you to switch to a 2-1/2 inch receiver. This is not a problem though because as you mentioned we have various adapters available such as the Curt # C45405 that will reduce this opening to 2 inches so you can continue to use your existing accessories. Because the sleeve slides into the hitch receiver it won't restrict the use of your accessories at all in terms of capacity or function and it...

  • I went out to the warehouse with digital calipers to get the exact measurement of the receiver of the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15703 and found it to be 2.55" though it is possible for the hitch that is shipped to you to have slightly (and by slightly I mean a couple hundredths or thousandths of an inch) more or less room in the receiver. There is always going to be some slight play but you can reduce this with the use of the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer II # BX88225 which is designed...

  • Recommendation for a Trailer Hitch to Fit a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 6-1/2 Ft. Bed
  • Both of the Curt hitches that you listed are confirmed to fit your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. The difference between the two can been seen in these hitches' features. The Curt Class V Hitch # C15302 that uses the 2 inch receiver opening, is the hitch that I recommend. The 2 inch opening is the more common size for use of a hitch accessory. If you wan to use the hitch for this application, then you will have a wider selection of accessories that will fit this hitch/. This hitch...

  • Dimension of Curt Class V Hitch for 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD with After Market Bumper
  • Good news, I was able to go out to our warehouse and measure the Curt Class V Hitch # C15703. This Class V Trailer Hitch has a dimension of almost 5 inches from the top of the bolt holes to the top opening of the receiver hitch opening. This should accommodate the space you require for your after market bumper. This Curt trailer hitch will fit both the 6-1/2 and 8 foot bed sizes of the 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD. I have linked an install video of the Curt hitch for your convenience.

  • Can Longer Hitch Extender be Used on a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • If you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch on your 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD like the Curt hitch part # C15703 then you could use a Titan hitch extender like the part # RP45292 if you used it in the 24 inch length and used a weight distribution system since a WD system gives the extender a higher towing capacity of 8,000 lbs instead of 6,000 lbs. For a weight distribution system the part # RP66084 would be a great option. It has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs and features only sway control...

  • Will TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs Work with Curt Hitch on 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • There are TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs that will work with the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15703 for your 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD but it is different than the one you referenced. The tie-downs that fit an '06 Silverado 2500HD with a 6-1/2 foot bed and aftermarket hitch do require the hitch to have a side plate with a 4" x 4" footprint, and as you can see by the accompanying photo of the measurements of Curt Hitch # C15703, it does meet those requirements. In regards to the tie-downs that...
