Video Transcript for Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2019 Ram 1500 Classic

Today on our 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, we're going to be taking a look at I'm showing you how to install the Curt Class Five Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver. Here is what our hitch is going to look like once we have it installed, the cross tube is going to sit right below the bumper, and the receiver tube is going to be nice and flush with it. Our hitch is a class five hitch, but it's still going to give us that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, so we'll have a really wide variety of options for accessories that we're can mount up. The way that we're going to mount many of our accessories is that the hitch is going to hold here on the side. It's going to accept a standard five inaudible 00:00:35 pen and clip. These are not included in the kit, but you can pick them up here at etrailer.com, along with some locking devices to keep your accessories secure. As far as the safe chain connection points go, it's going to be a plate style welded at the bottom of the cross tube and the receiver tube, and as you can see, we'll have plenty of room to get most sized hooks on or off.

If you're using really small hooks like this, just keep in mind that you will have a little bit of trouble just because the flange here is so thick. As far as weight capacity goes, our hitch is going to have a 1500 pound tongue weight, which is the maximum downward force to the receiver tube, along with a 1500 pound gross trailer rate rating, that's the amount it can pull including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it. Our hitch is also designed to work with weight distribution systems, but that's going to be a separate component that's mounted on your trailer. It's going to bump the tongue weight up to 1600 pounds, and the gross trailer rate rating up to 16000 pounds. With those numbers in mind, you want to double check your RAM's owner's manual, 'cause you don't want to exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight. I'd like to give it a few measurements, and that's going to help you whenever you're looking for accessories for your new hitch.

From the center of the hitch pin hold to the outermost sides Of the bumper, it's right about three inches. That measurement is going to come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough room and that they're not going to contact the rear bumper. From the ground of the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, through right about 21 and a half inches, that measurement is going to help you when you're looking for a ball mount, so you can make sure you find the appropriate rise or drop to match up to your trailer. Now that we've seen what our hitch looks like, and gone over some of the features, I'll show you how to get installed. To begin our installation, we want to lower down our spare tire, so we have plenty of room underneath our truck, then we'll move underneath our bumper, and we'll come to the side of the frame rail. On each side of the frame rail, we'll have our bumper structure.

We're going to remove the forward bolt that's going into the bottom of the frame. To remove the bolt, you use a 21 millimeter socket. Now once you pull it out, you want to hold onto this bolt, because we are going to be reusing it where we'll pull out the other side as well. Now if we move towards the front of the truck from the bolt we removed, we'll find a hole in the bottom of the frame, now this is going to be on both sides. This is going to be one of our attachment points, and we're going to get some hardware in place. We'll start by taking our pull wire, and on the coiled end, we'll take one of our square hole spacer blocks. We're going to make sure you grab the thin one, not the large one, we'll slide it over, and we'll take our carriage bolt, we'll thread it onto the end of the wire.

Then one piece at a time, we'll feed it into the frame, and we'll pull on our pull wire until the bolt drops down through. We're going to go in and remove it, and we'll repeat the same process on the other side. We're going to have two more attachment points, and if we come to that bumper structure right behind our license plate at the very center, we'll have two oblong holes. Now we're not going to be able to get our hardware in through the holes the same way we did almost, so we're going to use a little bit of a different technique. We'll still use our pull wire, we'll feed the coiled end in, and we're going to go towards the outside of the truck, so it can come out of the bumper structure.Once we have the coiled wire sticking out, we want to make sure that the tail end of it is still on the outside as well. We'll grab the larger spacer block from our kit, slide it over our wire, and we'll grab another carriage bolt and thread it on. We can push both pieces back in, and we'll pull on our pull wire until we can have the bolt come through. Now for now I'm going to leave the pull wire attached, and I'm going to just let the bolt rest on the inside, so we have room to lift our hitch up, but we'll repeat that for the other hold. Now with a next set of hands, we're going to lift our hitch into position. You're going to make sure you take your pull wire, and we're going to feed it from the front of the hitch going back, and we're going to lift the side plates up. We'll lift it up so that the bolt drops down through the hitch, then we'll take our factory bolt, we're going to loosely reinstall it so it'll hold the hitch up, then we can work on getting the rest of the hardware in place. You want to make sure you get at least a couple turns on each side, so it will hold it up, we don't have to worry about it falling. Then in the center, we can pull our bolt through. You may have to lift up the hitch just a little bit. We'll remove the pull wire, and you can take a flange nut, and we'll secure down the hitch. We'll do that for each location with these carriage bolts. Now if you're having trouble with the bolt moving too much, kind of hold your finger on there, and we get the nut started, so we won't have to worry about it falling back in the frame.Make sure we get the nuts on the side plate, you just want to be careful not to push that bolt back into the frame, 'cause it would be rather difficult to get it back out. For all of the half inch nuts that we have in place, I'm going to be using a three quarter inch socket to tighten them up. Then we'll use that 21 millimeter socket and snug up the factory bolts as well. Now we're going to come back with a torque wrench and we're going to torque all of our hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. You want to make sure you repeat that for any remaining hardware that you have. With our hitch torque down, all we have left to do is put our spare tire back, and we're ready to hit the road. That'll finish up your look at the Curt Class Five Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2019 RAM 1500 Classic.

Item fit perfect, installation was fairly easy took about 45 minutes, going slow and double checking the torque on the bolts. 390594

The left side arrived slightly bent so one of the holes was about 1/4 inch misaligned. Would have been 5 stars. Other than that, once we got it in place the rest of the installation went smoothly. Installed on a 2018 Ram 1500 Quad Cab. 709535

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

I ordered Class V hitch C15572 for my 2018 RAM Sport Night edition 4x4 from etrailer.com. The item was delivered on time and the shipping was free. I watched the suggested installation video and a friend and I got it installed in under an hour. All the holes lined up perfectly and everything was flush. This hitch is 60+ pounds, so make sure you have extra hands to hold it in place while bolting it up. The only small issue was there were some scratches on the hitch that were covered with brown paper. Not a big deal - it's a hitch! I would recommend this hitch and eTrailer to anyone. My friend wants to order one for his RAM Truck! 500573

Easy to install. The video from etrailer website was spot on. Very helpful. I used a ratchet strap to hold one side while I bolted the other. The box will show up mangled. Too much weight for cardboard to hold. The fasteners are secured to the hitch with fiber tape for shipping, so they won't fall off. I bought the curt brand because the ends of the tube are sealed. Draw tite hitch had open tubes that would fill with debris. Worth the extra $15. 676880

This is a sturdy hitch. Working alone on my back, it was a real challenge to maneuver it into place and bolted down. There was some trial and error but it took just a few minutes once I found a way around my arthritic shoulder. For once my rather large gut proved to be quite handy. 647111

I replaced a Reese Class III with this Curt Class V, The Rees e had gone on and off with eazy. The Curt not so much, only the two holes on the cross member lined up. The holes on the side brackets were a nightmare. I had to use nylon straps and pry bars to get holes lined up to slid onto studs then to get holes lined to start orginal frames bolts were they didnt bind. Took almost three hours a huge amount of time for a job like this. Never again. 84871

Well made Heavy Duty Receiver. My truck originally did not come with a hitch receiver. So, I checked the internet for heavy duty hitch receivers. Found the Curt unit to be an excellent choice. Installation was quite easy (with a helper). Instructions were clear and video helped with the installation which took about 2 hours. I believe this receiver is stronger than an original equipment unit I have seen on similar pickup trucks . I would recommend the Curt unit. Well worth the 5 star rating. 636545

  • Class V Trailer Hitch for a 2014 Ram 1500
Yes, you can install a Class V trailer hitch on your 2014 Ram 1500. Curt hitch # C15572 is rated a Class V, but it has a 2 inch receiver. The tongue weight capacity is 1,500 pounds, and the gross trailer weight capacity is 15,000 pounds. You will need to stay within the capacities of the truck though since it is rated lower than the hitch. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK2416....

The best Class V trailer hitch for your 2019 Ram 1500 Classic is the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15572 because it has the highest towing and tongue weight capacities and is a no-drill installation, not to mention the fact that it is made in the USA. This Class V hitch has a 2" receiver and boasts a 15,000 lb towing capacity and 1,500 lb tongue weight capacity which speaks to its strength, as does the lifetime warranty that comes with the hitch. • Recommended Towing Setup for a 2016 Ram 1500 Without Tow Package
I recommend always going for the highest rated hitch that is a confirmed fit. Since your max towing capacity is limited by the lowest rated item in your towing setup, it is much better for your 2016 Ram 1500's towing capacity to be the deciding factor instead of the trailer hitch receiver. Because of this I recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15572 which is a Class V hitch with a 2 inch receiver. It has a Gross Towing Weight (GTW) of 15,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight...

Yes, you can remove the OEM Class IV receiver from your 2013 Ram 1500. If it is welded on then you will need to get a professional to cut the welds for you. The Class V Curt Hitch # C15572 that you referenced will be a great upgrade on your Ram 1500. So it looks like you will be towing about 7,200 pounds if the trailer was loaded to the maximum. That is within the capabilities of the truck as you have described it. The tongue weight on the trailer will probably be closer to 20 percent rather than the typical 10 to 15 percent. That would put the tongue weight of the trailer at 1,440 pounds. With your 2012 Ram 1500 I would definitely steer towards a standard bumper pull trailer. Generally speaking, 1/2 ton trucks just aren't really built to pull a 5th wheel trailer, as they are typically heavier and will put more stress on the rear axle due to their pin weights. The standard towing capacity for your 1500 would require you to limit your choices to only the smallest 5th wheel trailers, while your options would be much more plentiful with standard bumper pull campers. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V # 41913 is compatible with the 2019 Ram 1500 (new body style). Since you have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, the correct hitch is the Draw-Tite # 41948 with a 12,000 lbs GTW/1,500 lbs TW capacity. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15572 is also a fit which offers a higher towing capacity of 15,000 lbs with the same 1,500 lbs TW capacity. • How to Install a Trailer Hitch Receiver with Broken Weld Nuts
Since the weld nut is broken you'll need to fish wire new hardwire into the frame from a different opening and then out through the hitch's mounting hole. I've linked a video of the process. If you also need replacement hardware for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15572 you can use part # RHK and enter the model number and manufacturer of the hitch.

  • Will the Curt Hitch part # C15572 fit a 2014 Ram 1500 with Dual Exhaust
There are no exhaust styles that the Curt Hitch part # C15572 that you referenced is not confirmed to fit. That means it would be totally compatible with your 2014 Ram 1500 with dual exhaust as long as you don't have the factory hitch.

  • Recommended Heavy Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2003 Dodge Ram 1500
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - 2" # C15572 is not a fit for your 2003 Ram 1500. It is only a fit for 2009 and newer models. For your needs, I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV - 2" # 41929 which is rated for 12K towing and 15K when using weight distribution and tongues weights at 1,200 or 1,500 with weight distribution. • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2010 Dodge Ram 1500
Curt Manufacturing offers a few different high quality, made in America hitches for your 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. The right hitch for you will depend on what you'll be towing and how much it weighs. If a 6000 lb towing/ 600 lb tongue weight (maximum amount of weight that can safely be suspended from the hitch) will work for you, you can't go wrong with the Curt Class III hitch, part # 13333. For a higher capacity, 10000 lbs towing/1000 lbs tongue weight, go with the Curt Class IV, part...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendations for a 2011 Dodge Ram
On the 2011 Dodge Ram that structural bar isn't a spare tire frame, it is a cross member that links the two frame rails together so it is very strong. This is also where Dodge welds on the factory hitch for trucks that have it. The hitch you choose, no matter where it installs, needs to have the capacity to handle the loaded car hauler. The truck also needs to be rated high enough. The highest capacity hitch for the 1500 series is # C15572 rated for 1500 pounds tongue weight and 15,000...

  • Will a Curt Class V Trailer Hitch Fit on a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 With Factory Installed Hitch
The Curt Class V Hitch, # C15409, that you referenced is for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and will not fit on your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. The Curt Class V Hitch, # C15572, is the Class V hitch that we carry for your truck, however, it will not fit on your truck if you have a factory installed hitch. Most factory installed hitches on newer Dodge trucks are welded on to the round frame cross tube behind the bumper and the Class V hitch that we carry for your truck will not fit around that hitch....
