Awsome product, simple installation. Only issue I had was the holes in the frame are to small for spacers on the rear of the frame. Ended up slipping the spacers in at the top end of the frame and the carriage bolts through the holes. No modifications necessary. 496746

2017 Ford F-150

I just bought a slightly used 2017 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4 and to my surprise it didn't have a trailer hitch receiver installed from the factory. I ran the carfax and learned it belonged to a rental company before I bought it and I think most rental company's order them that way from the factory or have them removed for liability reasons. Anyways I can't have a truck let alone a 4x4 truck without a trailer hitch so my search was on and I came across etrailer and this Curt Custom Fit Class IV hitch it looked great, easy to install and the price couldn't be beat. Well I am glad to say the it is all of the above and more. I had this hitch installed in 30 minutes by myself and couldn't be happier with it. A couple of tips I would like to point out to help with installation. Tip#1 The first thing the instructions tell you to do is "If present, remove the grounding cable from the rear of the passenger side frame rail." "Then to remove the spare tire" This is wrong the first thing you need to do is lower and remove the spare tire then "If present, remove the grounding cable from the rear of the passenger side frame rail." Tip#2 Do not tighten the four main bolts until after you have reinstalled the ground wire with the new longer bolt. You need to be able to still slightly move the hitch back and forth a little to line up the hole for the ground wire bolt. I learned this the hard way and had to loosen and re tighten the bolts. 501819

2017 F150 XLT. The rear spacer plates for inside frame would not fit through access holes on frame. I spent a long time, first, figuring out what the hell the problem was, and then on phone with customer service who couldn't resolve issue. I was then told a tech would call me back "today or tomorrow." Still no call. It's the dead of winter and I was trying to do this outside on a decent day today. So... I had to take the spacers and grind them down on edges to get them to fit through access holes. The spacers are so imprecisely stamped, they would not fit in access hole. A big waste of a few hours of my time. 470586

Comments
John, thank you for your review. The installation instructions state you can either use the fish wire to fish the carriage bolts and spacers through the access holes or the end of the frame rail. Depending on the vehicle it is sometimes easier to just go through the end of the frame with the spacers instead of trying to get them through the access holes. If you do not want to go through the frame then you can always use a file to slightly enlarge the access holes to make it easier. We do not recommend modifying the hardware.

Delivered on time. Installation was fairly easy since I used the U-tube video to get better directions. Took about 2 hours to get it installed with help from a floor jack. Already pulled my pontoon to the lake a couple of times with no problem. Very happy with the results. 850963

Hello and Good Day Carol C at etrailer.com Thank you for your email. Thank you very much for providing a quality product and quick shipping service. In the future I will be searching for two more products. 1st. A hitch for a 2019 Chev 1500 LT. 2nd. I will require replacement kit to reinstall the C14017 onto another F 150 later this year. I mean a kit with the mounting plates and extra bolts and nuts which fit into the frame. Thanks again and have a Super Day. Lorne K. [email protected] 820069

The installation of the Curt hitch receiver was very straight forward and easy to accomplish. I fabricated a simple adaptor to hold the receiver on a garage jack, lifted it into position and pulled the bolts through the mounting holes with the fish wires. The only recommendation would be to check the location of the grounding wire bolt hole in the truck frame and ensure the receiver hole is aligned with it for the ground wire installation. I had to loosen the installation bolts and reposition the receiver so the ground wire bolt could be installed. Otherwise a very professionally prepared, and easy installation 819974

Very heavy duty feeling out of the box. Great looking paint. The fish wire and the bolts are a bit tricky with only one person. Plan on having a helper or an ATV lift handy. 819760

Ordering and shipment through etrailer website was very convenient and arrived in 3 working days. The fitment was perfect on 2019 Ford F100. Installation was straight forward with good instructions (video on website was excellent). It is best to have a second person to assist you. The hitch is well constructed and I am very pleased with the results. The price was competitive with others but Quality and service by etrailer was way I chose this product. 819101

Good helpful pics of installation and videos online! Definitely use a jack with extended arm to jack up to minimize pains, can also add a receiver and ball to balance it on the jack. A little painful figuring out what hole-access to get the fish-wire through on the back ones. Also one of the spacers did not fit into the back hole, so had to back out and use a slightly smaller one in that place instead. Overall a very good product and installation. 818916

This hitch came well packaged with all the parts to mount. I did this myself by using a floor jack. Read the instructions carefully before you start. My suggestion is that you get the hitch into place with a jack and stands and then put the bolts in using the fish wires. I can’t see dealing with the fish wires and spacers while trying to lift the hitch and getting into place. In my truck the bolts would not fit in the rear access holes until I used my grinder to make the circumference of the bolt head about 1/16 of an inch smaller. Check that before you start. Also, the bolt for the ground wire is too long / don’t strip it - you may need to add a few washers. 817832

  • Hitch and Wiring Recommendation For 2019 Ford F-150 XLT
The 2019 Ford F-150 XLT with the hitch ball bumper would in fact need the hitch that fits the trucks without a factory hitch. Fords that are considered with factory hitch will have an actual receiver tube instead of the bumper with built in hitch ball mount. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class IV hitch part # C14017 is a great choice. It is rated for 1,000 lb tongue weight and does not require drilling for installation. It is also a concealed cross tube design so the only portion of the...

  • Curt Class IV Hitch Compatibility for 2018 Ford F-150 with Factory-Installed Hitch
Curt 2-inch Class IV hitch # C14017 is intended for the F-150 without the factory-installed hitch, as you noted. Factory hitches are built into the truck's frame in such a way that it is really not possible to remove them. They are integrated into the truck's construction and removing one, if it were possible, could affect the new vehicle's warranty.
