Great product, perfectly design for the 2020 Subaru Forester, I just put mine on and it was so simple it was ridiculous. I used a rotary tool and a cylindrical diamond bit to cut a notch into the largest factory drilled hole in the frame, and the fish wire provided with the kit worked perfectly for getting the flanges and bolts into the appropriate holes present from the factory for bolting the trailer hitch to the frame. The wiring harness that can be added to this purchase also comes with all the parts necessary for an easy install. The only thing I would recommend adding to this kit would be a small tube of thread lock as an added measure for the bolts.

Perfect fit. The installation video was great, much better than the manufacturer’s instructions. I installed the hitch on my 2020 Subaru Forester in my garage by myself. Took 2 1/2 hours. I used two 8” plastic boxes to support the hitch when I was ready to attach it to the frame. That made the last lift up to the bolts much easier because it was only a 3-4” lift. Only discrepancy I found in the 2019 video was that my 2020 Forester has an extra clip in the driver’s side wheel well holding up the plastic panel. It delayed me just a bit until I figured out why the panel was balky. I also installed the https://www.etrailer.com/Custom_Fit_Vehicle_Wiring/Curt/C56040.html wiring harness. It snapped right in and was a 10 minute job. Easy!

Installed easily per video, the only addition I did was to spray muffler isolators with silicone lubricant so as to allow reassembly by hand. This bicycle was the first thing to be carried with the hitch and it handled it perfectly

This is a good product, easy to install and works like it should. A few tips: 1. Put some WD40 on the rubber exhaust hangers to get them off easier. 2. I had some difficulty removing the underside panel on the driver side. There's more clips than the instructions indicate. Plus, you need to get behind the mudguard (rotate it to the side) to access one of them. Finally, there's a tab that's not removable (picture included). In the end I gave up trying to remove the panel and just pushed it to one side of the frame, which worked fine. 3. When removing the tabs, there are several different sizes, indicated by the notches in the face. Keep track of which size goes in which hole or it will be a pain to get them all back in the right holes.

This product was easy to install and was exactly like the online video showed. It looks great on my car and I am very happy with my order. I also purchased the Wiring Harness and that was an easy install too. Shipping was quicker than I expected. Thank you etrailer.com!

The installation video (2020 Forester) was great. One thing i would add is to pay attention to the heat shield on the Forester. The hitch frame bends the outermost lip of the shield against the spare tire well. This creates a trap for debris and moisture, so i made sure to bend the shield lip back down after hitch installation to create a space between the shield and the well.

We haven't actually used the hitch yet as Installation was just completed today. My husband was able to install it without any problems. He was very appreciative of the installation video and didn't even refer to the written instructions.

Hitch install was very straightforward due to the excellent video instructions from etrailer. I purchased this particular hitch after watching the install videos for several different choices. Delivery was prompt and everything arrived as specified. Customer service follow up has been great. I am not particularly handy and the excellent instructions from etrailer made all the difference.

Worked out great. There were no issues with the fit on our 2019 Subaru Forester. I use it for my Thule bike rack. Very happy with the purchase.

Great video instructions, looks easy to install but being 77 years old and not in very good shape I opted to have it installed by A&K trucking here. It was so easy they only charged me $50. The hitch looks very good and works perfect for all my needs......thanks etrailer for a great setup.....saved over $320 from what the car dealer wanted and that was for a cheap class 1 hitch.

Just like the previously purchased Curt Hitch Receivers, this one was a perfect fit. And had excellent DIY instructions. I have never been disappointed with any of my Curt Hitch Receiver purchases. They get the job done!

2019 Subaru Forester

There was one step missing in the installation instructions regarding the underbody panel on the drivers side. The hitch covers one of the installation tabs of the panel. I had to cut back the tab in order for the hitch to be installed. Once I did this I just installed the hitch over rear tab on the panel and did not screw it it as there was no hole in the hitch to install the screw. I also reinstalled the heat shield even though it looked like it was optional. I didn't see any reason on why I shouldn't have reinstalled it. I installed it on a 2019 Subaru Forester Sport.

- C13409
by:
2021 Subaru Forester

Solid hitch, pretty easy installation. I wish they added a small hole to reattach one of the underbody plastic panels, but seems minor. I also wish you didn't have to enlarge 2 holes in the frame rails - puts a lie to the "no drill" installation claim. The etrailer installation video is FANTASTIC, 5 starts for that.

This is an excellent trailer hitch, and the installation is as easy as the video makes it seem.

Arrived quickly but was packaged poorly. Not a lot holding the contents static within the box and it arrived with a huge hole in the side. That said, it wasn’t a big deal since the hitch is built for abuse. Super heavy duty and well constructed. Install went well but it’s the second hitch I’ve installed so I was used to the process. Having a dedicated clip wrench helps with getting the snap clips off. The instructions weren’t super clear on uninstalling the body panel piece on the driver side. There are two clips to remove inside the wheel well and if I recall correctly, 4 clips and two screws to uninstall underneath. This body panel gets replaced after the hitch goes in and all but one screw are used to reattach. The hitch covers up one screw hole but it’s no big deal. For the actual hitch install, I took a look at the instructions and don’t really know why they go into detail about enlarging the middle hole and then fishing the front and rear bolts and then reverse fishing the middle one. It seems over complicated. Maybe there is a reason, but instead I just Just widened the “access” hole with a file and fished all three bolts and retaining nuts in normally from there. This access hole is the fourth, and most forward, of the four holes you will find on either side once you’re underneath. The other three are all used for the actual mounting, this one is only used during the fishing process. Took me about an hour start to finish.

Backed my Forester '19 onto 10' ramps. This raised the back end of the car enough to do the installation. Then I added two steps to make installation easier. 1. I removed the Muffler from the exhaust pipe giveing me more room for the hitch installation. 2. I removed the bumper cover and bumper support and this does not take much time (there are videos on youtube to show you how to remove the cover and then the bumper support). This exposes the inner section of the support beams (as viewed from the back). The Hitch has two wing supports, each bolt to a beam under the rear of the car. By doing this I could easily fish the bolts and spacers into the support beams from the exposed square hole at the end of each beam. I used a floor jack to support the middle of the hitch while guiding the wings to align with the hole in the beams. The installation requires 2 people when you get to the step of jacking up the hitch to align its holes with those in the 2 beams and inserting the bolts through the beams/wings. Tighten the nuts with a torque wrench to ft lbs specified on instructions. Then Reassemble car.

2020 Subaru Forester

Great hitch and very happy with end result. I’m using just for bike rack so didn’t bother with lights. Looks good on ‘20 Forester. Videos and instructions were spot on for install. It took me about three hours by myself but some of that consisted of a Home Depot run for step down bit to expand hole (watch video) which made life infinitely less frustrating. Follow the video and any amateur like me can do it. Hitch looks great. If you have Forester and considering this hitch you won’t be disappointed.

2019 Subaru Forester

Installed on 2019 Subaru Forester Premium. Install was fairly simple. Had to drop and remove the muffler to install. Widening of the holes in the frame is much simpler with a die grinder. If you don't have a die grinder, you will probably have issues. Instructions were easy to follow. I've had the hitch for a year, it has worked great for bike carriers. I've towed a 1,500 lbs trailer and the hitch had no problems, the Forester on the otherhand should be kept below a trailer weight of 1,500 lbs as Subaru recommends. A trailer of that weight starts to push around the car and overpower it making for a rough ride and reduced braking.

This receiver is exactly what I needed. Installation went smoothly, watching the etrailer installation video before I got started was extremely helpful. I was able to perform the solo installation without lifting the vehicle. In order to support the receiver while securing the first bolts, I set the receiver on the box the unit was shipped in to keep it elevated. This allowed me to secure those first bolts on each side without trouble. Excellent.

Subaru Forester

Easy install, I was able to put it in myself without a lift or even jacking up the forester. Great quality, gave it 4 stars because the 2” hitch is open on both sides. Allowing debris from the road to kick up into the hitch and gum up the mechanism that locks in my bike rack. It’s an easy fix, I ordered a hitch cap today. But something to note before buying.

After watching the install video and having access to a spider hoist my Dad and I installed the Curt 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver in about 45 minutes to an hour. Super easy, all hardware was accounted for and the fish wires made it that much smoother. Would recommend to anyone looking for a trailer hitch receiver for their vehicle. Only reason I'm giving a 4-star review instead of a 5-star review is because the box arrived with 3 rather large holes in it. Other than that, everything was as promised! Also bought the rubber cap and locking pin for peace of mind when out riding on the trails.

The best trailer hitch we have for your 2019 Subaru Forester is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76271.
