So far so good. Going to mount my kuat nv 4 back rack on it today to test it out. Prepping the car was simple, was able to just lay underneath not jack stand needed. And I’m not small. The install video is quite helpful. I learned to not use duct tape to hold the spacer, the bolt won’t go through very easily. After I installed the hardware my 13 year old daughter helped me feed the fish tape through the hitch and get nuts started. I did not move the exhaust, I had a hinged ratchet that gave me plenty of ability to access all four bolts. Solid rack, simple install, love it. Also this was installed on my 2021 Crosstrek Sport

Comments
Still love it. I found out I put it on a little crooked. Totally my fault. Easy fix with putting a ball on it to see when it was square, then re tighten the bolts. I am planning to get the same hitch for our mini van and Subaru Accent when we get it.

This is the 2nd Curt Trailer hitch I've installed on a 2nd Subaru. Both were easy to install with bolts and nuts supplied. They come with great spring' like things that make feeding the bolt in from the top of the frame hole easy. I use the 2" receivers for bike racks only, no towing. For hauling 2 bikes they receiver works great, even 2 fat bikes in winter. I would recommend these receivers 100%.

Comments
One year in and Hitch is still great. Even use it to jack up the back of the car for tire rotation. But mostly used for bike rack.

Pleasantly surprised by the weight of it. Sturdy, built like a tank. Installation was fairly easy. Took me about an hour to install using rhino ramps. Widened the access holes with a rotary tool and dremel tungsten carbide cutter piece. Lifting the heavy hitch to the undercarriage while screwing in the bolts was definitely the hardest part. Get an extra pair of hands. Earlier hitch/crosstrek models recommended lowering the muffler/exhaust but that’s not necessarily needed with this. However, you’ll need extremely deep sockets to reach the left hex nut closest to the driver’s seat. I couldn’t get an impact wrench to fit and ended up hand ratcheting that one. (see picture). It looks amazing. Love the hidden look.

A little tricky to install without a lift and without a helper but i was able to do alone in about an hour. There are some very helpful videos showing how to install. One of the mounting bolts arrived with damaged threads but i was able to fix okay using a file. The shackle shown in my photo is more for look. I'll be using the hitch for a bike rack mostly.

The installation videos on etrailer guided me step by step and made the install manageable even without being on a lift. I was able to complete the installation on ramps with the help of my wife just to lift the hitch up. If you're not using a lift, taking off the muffler completely really helps and it's pretty easy to do so. I'd also like to mention that Odelia from customer service who helped me with the purchase was wonderful. She helped me cancelled the hitch that was on backorder and picked one that has the same features and price point. She was easy to work with, professional, and courteous which made me feel like I am a valued customer. I can't say I have the same experience with other companies I've dealt with. This is the 3rd hitch I've purchased from eTrailer and I've got to say, every experience was very pleasant.

After reaming out the OEM holes in the frame on the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek to the appropriate size the hitch mounted perfectly. A mentioning of the need to ream the holes in the description would have been nice. Add $40-$50 to the cost for the reaming bit if you don't have one already.

Ordered this same Curt hitch through Another online retailer and it arrived warped (only discovered after we got to the very last bolt during attempted installation). Sent it back and ordered the same hitch through etrailer. It arrived really quick (3 days, free shipping) and I unboxed it right away to make sure it is warp-free, which it is. Installing today on 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. Also, etrailer's installation videos are helpful.

Very satisfied with the hitch. Havent pulled a trailer yet, but have used it with a hitch mounted cargo basket also a Curt product and it works great. No complaints and etrailers videos are all very informative and helpful.

I installed today on 2021 Crosstrek Sport. I used some car ramps to raise the rear of the vehicle and followed the etrailer video including lowering the exhaust. Lowering the exhaust was easy and made the rest of the install easy. I used a die grinder to open up the frame access which was also not difficult. Hitch looks very nice and durable. Hope this feedback helps.

This receiver is a great value. It was easy to install after watching the YouTube video. I would enlarge the holes a little more next time, but it worked out. Took me about 45 minutes to get it totally installed.

Comments
My receiver hitch has been great. I use it all the time to connect a four bike rack on my Crosstrek. I haven’t towed anything beside a wood splitter, but I’m sure the hitch wouldn’t be the weak link. Anyone who has driven a crosstrek should know that towing is not a great idea with its underpowered motor.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek

It arrived in a box. There were two holes in the box, where the bolted to car parts were scuffed as they must have been dragged around during delivery. I filed them just to remove burrs. The center receiver (visible after installed) was well packaged and avoided any damage. I grinded the hole into the car frame to allow fishing bolts and spacers into the car with the pictured tool. It was less material removal than I feared. But be careful you make the hole large enough for both spacer and the bolt, because I had trouble fishing the bolt in one hole that was just shy of the right size. A light hammering helped it in. But I made sure the hole was big enough before putting away the air tool. I did not need to lower the muffler, but it was much easier to wiggle the thing into place with the fished wires with my wife assisting. It only took 10 minutes of her time. From raising the car onto jackstands, installing the hitch receiver, to lowering it, I was done in 2 hours.

If you have a 2019 Subaru Cross Trek this hitch is for you. My son and I installed the hitch in about an hour and 15 minutes. If you watch the video from etrailer.com on the installation process you can’t go wrong. Thank you team!!!

I mounted this receiver hitch on my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek by myself which was much more difficult than expected. The video directions are very good, but, the installation was a real challenge. To be fair, I did not lower the exhaust and did not jack up the car. I used a circular bastard file to make the forward holes about 1/4" larger to accommodate the bolt backing plates and threaded the backing plates/bolts as instructed with the threaded wires. Be careful as I poked myself in the eye (that's why you use safety glasses). I had to tilt the entire assembly to position it around the exhaust. I used some nylon straps attached to the exhaust brackets to carefully lift up the receiver assembly one side at a time, so I could thread the nuts onto the bolts. I needed to use a screwdriver to put lateral pressure on the end of the bolt while screwing on the nut so that the bolt didn't push upward. The job took about 90 minutes, mostly to twist and position my hands to the appropriate place to reach the assembly while under the car. It is awkward but doable, just be patient or have an assistant. I highly recommend this product; it is 1/4 the price of the dealer installed hitch and 2" compared to the manufacturer 1 1/4" hitch.

This hunk of metal does exactly what it is supposed to do. It was easy to install with only minor filing of the car frame to fit the bolts. I recommend having a buddy help you install it if you are doing it at home, however, with a little ingenuity I was able to put it on solo. I use the hitch constantly to hold my bike rack and have never had an issue with it in the last year since I bought this.

by:

After looking at the Curt and Drawtite hitches, I decided to go with the Curt hitch because it appeared to be more concealed under the car and I did not need the increased tow capacity of the Drawtite hitch. I placed my order on a Tuesday afternoon and my hitch was delivered on Friday, which was awesome. Installation was straightforward and easy as described on Etrailers website, I took my time and even spray painted around the holes that needed to be enlarged to get the bolts in the frame. Total install was 1hr 15 min. Very happy with fit and look.

Fantastic service and product. Needed a hitch for my daughters car. Dealer wanted $500 and no estimate of when they would have one in stock. E-trailer web site had great tutorials and list of tools to do install myself. E-trailer said I would have hitch in 4 days. That’s exactly what happened. Instructions estimated 40-60 minutes. I was skeptical but with zero experience I was able to install in 75 minutes by myself in the driveway. Saved $350 over what the dealer wanted and my daughter’s trip went off with out a hitch- no pun intended. Very surprised at the level of service and quality of product for something as mundane as a trailer hitch. Thanks Dennis

  • Hitch and Wiring For 2020 Subaru Crosstrek
To install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # C13382 on the 2020 Suburu Crosstrek it will require the hole to be enlarged. This is so the hardware will fit inside the frame rail. That doesn't necessarily mean the whole thing needs to be enlarged. I like to take a grinding bit in a drill and just hold it against one edge until you can fit the head of the carriage bolt into the hole. Typically if you can fit the bolt in then the spacer block will fit. Once...

Yes, you can use a step bit to open up the frame holes and will want them wide enough to fit your spacers through as a good measure for when you've drilled enough. I have included instructions and a very detailed video that starting at 2:25 shows how this is done in order to install the Curt # C13382. I don't recommend changing the hardware or installing the Curt # C13382 in any other manner than what's shown in the instructions. Swapping out the bolts for ones with a smaller head could affect the strength of the installation. The easiest way to enlarge that hole would be to use a Dremel or similar tool to cut a notch in the side of one of the access holes, just large enough so that the hardware can be fished into the frame member. I've had to do this before, and honestly, it's not...
