Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2013 Chrysler 300 - Curt

Today on our 2013 Chrysler 300, we'll be installing the Curt Class III two inch receiver trailer hitch. Part number C13093. You can see a very minimal amount of the hitch hangs down. The two inch receiver is very easy to get to. It's not up underneath the bumper too far, so you can easily slide your draw bar, your bike rack or your cargo carrier in there. Our five eighths hitch pin hole here is easily accessible. You don't have to worry about it getting in the way of this plate here or where the safety chain loops are right here, to attach the safety chains on your trailer.

While we're on the subject of the safety chain loops right here, these are really easy to use because they have this round tubular construction. It's not an angular plate that's welded onto the bottom of the receive, so it makes it easy to use any sort of chain on there. You don't have to fight getting it over the plate at all. Now this hitch has a three hundred and fifty pound max tongue weight rating and a thirty-five hundred pound max gross trailer weight rating. Obviously you want to consult with the owners manual of your Chrysler 300 and go by whichever number is lower. Now for a few measurements to assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessories that you may need, such as a ball mount, bike carrier or cargo rack. You're looking at about eight and a half inches from the ground to the top of the two inch receiver opening and you're also looking at about seven and a half inches from the middle of the five eighths diameter hitch pin hole to the back of our bumper. Now that we've gone over some of the features, we'll show you how to install them.

Now if you're using this for a non-trailer application such as using it for a bike rack or cargo carrier, Curt requires that you use a cargo stabilization strap, just to help support some of the load that is being placed on the hitch. We have those available separately on our website. The first thing we need to do for installation of our receiver hitch here, is remove this black plastic trim panel right here. To do that, there's four plastic push pins here that we need to take out. Then four eight millimeter bolts there. We'll start with the plastic push panel clips first.

Pry out the center of them. With the center out we can remove the whole clip, like so. Do the same for the other three. We'll remove the eight millimeter screws now. Now we can switch to our ten millimeter and remove the nuts. Double check and make sure that we got them all off.

There we're a few extra than I thought there would be. We'll pull down our panel, starting at the front of it, and then slide it out, just like that. Now using a thirteen millimeter socket, we can remove the exhaust hanger bolts. There's two on either side, one at the rear of the muffler and one at the front. Here's a tech tip for you. The instructions call for removing one of the mufflers completely from the vehicle. Speaking from prior experience, that's not a really good idea because you could develop an exhaust leak if you don't install it properly, so we're going to modify the instructions a little bit here on our installation. We'll just lower the exhaust by leaving it intact. We'll do so by removing these chrome tips that attach the bumper that the actual muffler go through, just an appearance package there to make it look sportier. There's three ten millimeter bolts that hold that tip in. One on either side, and then one here at the very top. We'll go ahead and remove these. Once we have them removed, like that, the tip will just kind of fall out of place in the bumper. There's two forward exhaust hangers here we can remove to actually drop the exhaust down the rest of the way that we need. First, we need to support our exhaust just so it doesn't get damaged on any other connections. We use a cam buckle strap here, attaching it around the rear sub-frame right here, under the exhaust, sub-frame on the other side. Now we can lubricate our exhaust hangers here and here with some spray lubricant to help them slide off a little bit easier for us. That done, we can use a pry bar and pop them off. Do the same for this one. On the drivers side of our vehicle, we'll take our pull wire here, run through this hole here in the front and come out down through this access hole here. Take one of our spacer plates, push it up into the frame rail. Take one of our carriage bolts, push it into the frame rail as well. Pull it on down through and remove our fish wire. Do the same on the passenger's side. Push your carriage bolt in, pull down and remove our fish wire. Now with all of our hardware in place, with the help of an assistant, we'll raise our hitch into position. We'll get the nuts started on the bowl here on the front of the drivers side, and we'll move over to the passenger's side and get those nuts started as well. Now for the hole, that's pre-exiting in the frame that has a well nut on the back side of it. We'll take our bolt, the twelve millimeter bolt with a conical lock washer with the teeth facing up towards the hitch. We'll get this bolt started with a few turns by hand, and we'll move over to the other side and get our other two bolts started. With our bolts all loosely started, same with our nuts, we can tighten down with our impact. Doing the same on the other side. Now using a three quarter inch wrench, we will torque the inner twelve bolts to the specified amount found in the instructions. Then we'll go to our half inch bolts here and torque them. They are different amounts, so keep that in mind. That one is done. We'll go to the two of those on the driver's side. Now we can go ahead and raise our exhaust back up into position. With our exhaust hangers back in place, by our Y pipe, we'll do the forward hanger on front of our muffler here first. Get the bolt started a little bit like that. We'll do the same on the other side. We can now do the back bolts. We want to make sure the tabs go in straight to the hole on the body. Now we can remove our strap that we used to help support our exhaust. Now we'll reinstall our chrome exhaust tip with the three bolts on either side. Two bolts on each side and one bolt up at the top, and these are ten millimeter bolts. Now for the plastic under body shield that we removed, you could try to trim it and put it back up into position, or you could just leave it off. In this case, since it doesn't cover any critical electrical components and the hitch is right in the way, we're going to leave it off. That completes our installation of the Curt Class III two inch trailer hitch, part number C13093, on our 2013 Chrysler 300.

Product is absolutely excellent, purchasing and delivery, five star! Materials, instructions and products to do the installation, absolutely the best. They even include fishing wires for the bolts and washers. I would recommend etrailer.com to everyone I know and don't know; they are absolutely "the whole package"; don't accept anything less! Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the installed product, but everybody says it looks great on our 2014 Chrysler 300. 154420

Easy to install and excellent fit and finish to my Chrysler 300. I use it for airport runs and being able to tow a small luggage trailer is important, especially when clients wish to bring their golf clubs. 185492

The fit and finish was excellent... My only problems were in the installation on a 5 year old vehicle (2011 300 C)... The weld nuts were corroded, and on the passenger side, the limited access with the tail pipe in the way made it a chore to clean the threads enough to get the bolt to tighten properly... Also, there was no mention of the chrome exhaust tips that are cumbersome to remove and install with the tailpipes in place... Since you can get to the driver's side easier after removing that tailpipe, it would have been nice to know that it can be left in place until the tailpipe is removed. The passenger side is another story, it must com off to allow the pipe to come down enough to get the hitch slid in place... Other than those two things, the instructions were really good... 249268

I am happy with the product. It is a bit low and hits some speed bumps and curbs when backing into parking spaces... But it is robust and has served us well. We mostly use it for my wifes Hoveround mobility chair, so it has been good...

I bought the hitch and wiring kit for a 2014 Chrysler 300, I must say the install video made it look like an easy job and in fact it was. The install took me about 2 hrs. from the time I put the car on the lift till it was back on its wheels and that includes installing the wiring harness. The fit and finish was superb, everything mated up perfectly, no need to tweak or pry on anything to get it to fit. All welds were smooth and straight. Nice to have and install such a high grade, heavy duty product. I also bought the C56145 custom wiring kit, it is a must have item for Chryslers due to their load specific wiring. The dealer wanted $600 for the hitch and wiring kit + $ to install. I saved a lot by doing it myself. A big thanks to "etrailer.com" for handling such fine products and the free shipping too. Respectfully, Larry R. 194787

Ya never know it is there due to the design, but it works as it is supposed to an that is the true test. I would buy it again in an instant.

Excellent product. Well designed. Solid. Installation itself is somewhat difficult. Had it not been for Curt's excellent video I would still be under the car!! 148534

Drags on some driveways and speed bumps. I would not recommend for a Charger. The car is too low, though it pulls a trailer effortlessly.

With my 2 sons installation went well. We've used the hitch up hold our bike rack as well as a small metal shelf top transport items such as ice chests and suit cases. I have to be careful over speed bumps or it will hit. This hitch has come in very handy. 462813

The product looks great! I will be getting a local garage to install it tomorrow. Mieneke wanted $370,00 to install. Yikes! A local garage estimated $100. The shipping container was horrible - not strong enough. The hitch was sticking out of a hole in the box. No damage that I can see. The instructions do not list the Challenger as a vehicle the hitch will fit. Knowing the Charger and 300 have the same chassis as the Challenger I remain optimistic. Hope I don't need to revise this feedback. 577451

The hitch is great, install was pretty easy except for getting the muffler that you don't take down out of the way. Only negative is that the receiver sits too low. Would have rather needed to cut the valance so the receiver sits higher. It tends to scrape on dips and if the car is loaded, its going to scrape period. I haven't found anything to raise the rear of the car some without spending a ton of money. Still looking though. 436492

Product looks great and is well built, paint scratched off due to box failing and end of part sticking out of box and scraped. Carrier damage I guess. Otherwise a great experience. Would order again. 413581

Things are great. The car can scrape the receiver sometimes but all else is great. Im probably one of the few that ran a lawn care company off a challenger.

The actual hitch is great! Very solid, relatively low profile, and doesn't distract from the aesthetics of the car. I do have a minor issue with some higher speed bumps grazing the bottom of the hitch if I take them too fast. Also, unless you're a trained or extremely proficient mechanic, I'd get this hitch installed by a professional. It's a rather complex and daunting task on this particular vehicle. I paid a local muffler shop to put it on and it turned out they had just fitted the same hitch to another 300 a few days before, so I had confidence they would do it right. 396426

I am 68 years old and get around in a wheel chair...after jacking up my newly acquired 2013 Chrysler 300C SRT8, I single handily removed the stock exhaust system as I was replacing it with an aftermarket performance setup...now was the opportune time to install the trailer hitch receiver with nothing in the way...the instruction were spot on...everything was included...3 bolts and washers threaded right in...3 plates and bolts fished in, and then were tightened down with nut/washer assemblies...total job lying on a creeper using impact tools was 35 minutes by myself...now I am just waiting for the small trailer to arrive that will carry my 3-wheel scooter with a tongue weight of 18 lbs. instead of using a Harmar lift attached to the rear of my car and forcing the rear to sag big time...I am over joyed!!! 238252

Should be an inch or so tighter up to the rear bumper cover. Hitch gets very close to the road and drags very easy. If it fit tighter it would drag less.Box you shjipped in was TERRIBLE! This hitch is perfect. My wife was worried she would see it, and spoil the lines of her 300-C. The hitch is virtually invisible, you only see the reciever and it is black surrounded by a nice plastic boot. So her black 300-C is intact. The worst part of the install was the chrome pipe tips upper screw. I actually left it off when I was re-attaching everything. 133133

Thank you for the follow up on my purchase. Your customer care is outstanding! I would like to comment on the hitch for my 2014 Dodge Charger. It's well built and a huge plus, it's made in the USA. Something that should be noted is that the 2014 Chargers muffler system is a bit different than what is depicted in your installation video. The passengers side muffler can not be disconnected and removed. It can be released from the hangers to give room for the installation but not removed because it is welded to the drivers side exhaust about half way to the engine. This provides little room to work around muffler making it very difficult to tighten the bolts on the passengers side. However, I was able to complete the installation and the product looks, and works great. The 2014 Charger trailer wiring harness couldn't be easier. It really is a plug and play. Thanks for the great products and service. Dan 127370

  • Since your 2016 Dodge Challenger has the Quad Tip exhaust the only trailer hitches we offer for it are 2 inch hitches like the Curt # C13093 which is a confirmed fit. 2 inch hitches are generally preferred as they have higher capacities and more accessories made for them. • Trailer Hitch Tow Capacity Different than Vehicle Tow Capacity, 2011 Dodge Challenger with 3.6 Liter
  • Even though the vehicle may be capable of towing more, Chrysler/Dodge determines what the Challenger is capable of towing. There can be many deciding factors that lead to a company deciding what the tow capacity should be including, but not limited to, the frame, suspension, engine, and transmission. So you need to stay within the manufacturers recommendation. Otherwise it will void the warranty. The CURT Trailer Hitch, # C13093, is capable of 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch with Best Ground Clearance for a 2016 Dodge Challenger

The receiver will basically be right beneath the bottom of the rear fascia. Please note # C13236 does not fit models that have quad-tip exhaust. If you plan on doing some...

  • Why is Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch Receiver Confirmed to Fit Greater Than Vehicle Tow Rating
  • The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13093 is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Chrysler 300 and is also a fit for a few other models like the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challengers of certain model years. The towing capacity of your vehicle is 1000 lbs as you mentioned, and it is not uncommon for trailer hitch receivers to be rated much higher than the vehicles they are made to fit. This is the case of your vehicle and hitch receiver but the hitch manufacturers...

  • Does Exhaust Have to Be Removed to Install Hitch on 2016 Dodge Charger
  • The exhaust of your 2016 Dodge Charger has to be lowered to install the Curt hitch part # C13093. This is a pretty standard install step for hitch installs as there isn't a way to get a hitch past the exhaust. If you check out the install video though you can see that it's not really that difficult to pull off. All of the hitches for this vehicle require this step.
