Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2012 Lexus ES 350 - Curt

Today on our 2012 Lexus ES350, we'll be installing the Curt Hitch, part number C12343. Here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole, it's approximately 3 inches to the outer edge of the bumper. From the top opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 11 3/4 inches. Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with, we're going to need to remove the bolts here at the rear of the vehicle on each side that hold the exhaust, as well as the tow hook bracket, into place.

There are a total of five bolts on each side that will need to be removed, three that hold the tow hook in place and two that hold the rear exhaust bracket in place. We're going to go ahead and put our safety strap in place before we remove any of the rear exhaust brackets or take down any of the rubber exhaust hangers. Now with our safety strap in place, we'll begin by removing the bolts on each side. We will not be reusing any of these bolts and the tow hook brackets will not be going back into place. Now that we have all the bolts removed from each side and the two brackets down, we're going to lower down two rubber exhaust hangers. To do this, a little bit of spray lubricant and a pry bar or a large flat-head screwdriver works good. Now with our rubber hangers removed, we can go ahead and lower the exhaust down a little bit to give us a little more working room.

Now let's go ahead and point out the locations that we'll be mounting our hitch with. There are four on each side. The hardware used for each will be a hex bolt with a conical tooth washer. All eight locations will have the same hardware. Now let's go ahead and start to put our hitch into place. Once we have our hitch held up where it needs to be, we'll put the two bolts, one on each side, to face the rear of the vehicle.

We'll just go ahead and put these in loosely so that it supports the hitch. We put the center exhaust rubber hanger back into place to help us hold the exhaust up a little higher, and then we can line up the exhaust brackets on each side and begin putting our bolts in, making sure that our conical tooth washers are always facing the hitch. You may need to move the hitch, as well as the exhaust brackets, around a little bit to get everything to line up, so as you're putting the hardware in, don't tighten down anything yet until you have all the hardware installed. Now that we have all the hardware installed, we can go ahead and begin tightening things down, followed by torquing it to the manufacturer's specification. Now with our hardware all torqued, we can go ahead and put the final rubber exhaust hanger hanger back into place. With that, that will conclude the installation of our Curt hitch, part number C12343, on our 2012 Lexus ES350. .

Bolted onto my Camery perfectly. Instructions were clear and spot on. Only challenge was persuading 7 year old bolts to come out. On the next car I'll buy this sooner! 557673

The hitch is awesome! It arrived shortly after I ordered it and was exactly as advertised. The installation instructions were well written and easy to follow. The hitch installed in a very short amount of time. It has functioned well for us. I would order from this supplier immediately if I ever need a hitch, and highly recommend them for you too! 416831

I am thrilled with the trailer ball & hitch I purchased from you one year ago for my Toyota Camry. I have used the hitch numerous times to rent U-Haul trailers rather than trucks (which you have a mileage fee on) and saved more than triple the cost of my purchase. As the mom to a college aged daughter, I was the one to help her & her friends move out of the dorms, into their first shared apartment & delivered the gently used furniture we found online to furnish their first digs. Most recently I helped them move to a furnished shared flat and was able to haul their furniture to both a consignment store & a donation center so that their finds can live on and make other families happy. The products I purchased from etrailer.com still looks and perform like new. Thank you, Erica, for your professional advice and support. I highly recommend etrailer.com to everyone I meet! Sincerely, A grateful Mom 335930

The product is perfect. Installation was a breeze, after watching the video's. Installation time was estimated at 45 Min. I had it installed in 30. The packaging is not very good. When the receiver was left on my doorstep, it had burst through the end of the box causing some minor scratching. (It is going to spend the rest of its life under my car, so I doubt a few scratches are worth a reduced rating). I have towed a 5x8 utility trailer with it several times, and it has performed perfectly. No drilling necessary, the only specialty tool required is a torque wrench. 258152

After a year and heavy use, the hitch is holding up well. I still recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a receiver hitch for light duty use on their car.

4 out of 5 stars because it is a hair off to the left. Although it won't make a difference for my bikerack application, that's not the point. I didn't notice at first, but then loosened it and discovered there is no lateral movement. I then noticed a picture of another customers review and it is the same as mine. About 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch may not seem like a lot, but being a jeweler, if I was to set the customers center stone a hair off on her wedding ring, she would have my head on a platter! It is either on or off and in this case it's off. Aside from that it is a quality hitch and it was super easy to install. 211447

The hitch was easy to install but the driver side mount did not fit flush to the frame rail and one hole barely lined up and was kind of hard to get the bolt started. It took me about 40 minutes to completely install the hitch. I did not have to completely remove the exhaust hanger I just removed the bolts and slid it forward. On my car (2011 Toyota Camry) there was no anchor nut for the right side lower bolt but there is a hole there and I plan to purchase a nut and install it that way. Overall the hitch seems durable and worth the price. 269379

Love the 1 1/4 receiver hitch on my 2010 Lexus ES350. Don't see many Lexus' with trailer hitch but I absolutely love it for hauling my bikes off the back with my Kuat carrier. Ground clearance is excellent as are aesthetics! 342128

Shipping was very fast. Product was easy to install and mounted up to strong part of the car's body where the factory had placed weld nuts. The hitch is attractive beneath the bumper and I gave it a coat of wax! 26623

TWO MAN JOB! Hitch went on just as described, but definitely NOT a one man job. Prior to purchase I was having a hard time finding info anywhere online about installation on '07 Camry with DUAL EXHAUST. Bought hitch anyway, and can verify that it DOES WORK with dual exhaust setup. Exhaust system was well enough supported that we did not need to use additional support after removing bolts. Be sure hitch brackets are sandwiched BETWEEN frame and exhaust brackets when installing. Excellent design of hitch ensures there is minimum clearance between bottom of bumper and top of hitch, so you get maximum road clearance. Have not pulled anything with it yet, but design looks really SOLID with four bolts in each the two brackets. 20713

The trailer hitch was the right product the first time and fit perfectly. The only issue was angling it under the muffler mount. After that it was smooth sailing. I'm very happy with the product and the bike rack that it now holds. The site was easy to use to limit the products to the ones that would work for my vehicle and made purchasing very easy. The many photos also made for easy understanding how it would mount. Excellent. 670009

I just received the trailer hitch today. The hitch arrived as scheduled. It was packaged well and there was no damage to the paint during shipping. The hitch seems to have a quality finish and there are no scratches or dings. All bolts and hardware came with it. I am anxious to find the time to install it and see how the mounting holes line up to my Vehicle, (2009 Lexus ES350). I will use it to transport two bikes. So far so good. 608176

I'm having a friend put this on for me, but the package arrived damaged on one end and when I removed it from the box, there was a chip in the coating close to the center of the bar. Not sure if I should really return this for a new one or just live with the chip although it looks as though it went down to the bare metal. 547902

Good clear directions from Curt, and a GREAT video from etrailer.com. Only issue in install was the weld nut in the sheet metal support of the muffler hanger was rusted on for me. Had to use a dremel to grind it off, but that is typical here in Wisconsin with road salt, and a seven year old car. Hitch and hardware was great. The one other annoyance was that the UPC needed for the Curt rebate was stuck to the hitch from Curt so I had to take it off with care for my rebate. Well worth the rebate. 516759

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch

  • Is Trimming of Fascia Needed to Install Trailer Hitch in 2007 Lexus ES350?
I took a look at the installation instructions for both the Curt # C12343 hitch and the Draw-Tite # 36416 hitch to see if any fascia would need to be trimmed, and the Curt mentions that it may require fascia trimming. However, the Draw-Tite # 36416 will not, as you can see in the installation video I've linked showing the Draw-Tite being installed on a 2008 ES 350, which will be the same as on your '07 model.

  • Is A 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Available For A 2009 Toyota Camry
On the 2009 Toyota Camry, all of the hitches available are Class II 1-1/4 inch hitch openings. The hitches will have a 3,500 lb. Gross Towing Weight and a 300 lb. or 350 lb. Tongue Weight. There is not a 2 inch hitch available for your vehicle, because a 2 inch hitch has to be rated as a Class III and a Class IV hitch. That means that the vehicle would have to be able to tow weights ranging from 3,500 lbs. to 12,000 lbs. The frame on your Toyota Camry would not be able to handle towing...

You have to use all of the install hardware of the Curt hitch part # C12343 that you referenced. Sometimes it can be a bit difficult getting all of the holes to line up perfectly. What you will need to do is loosely install all of the hardware so that you can get all of the bolts started and then once they are all started then torque them all down.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Curt trailer hitch # C12343 is indeed listed as a fit for your 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. It also fits non-Hybrids which is probably why it looks different than the video. Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or car go carrier) per their warranty requirements. If you want to avoid having to use a stabilization strap then go with Draw-Tite hitch # 36416. It does not have that requirement.

  • Available Trailer Hitch Class for 2008 Toyota Camry for Using Hitch Bike Rack
The custom-fit hitches that are made for vehicles like your 2008 Camry are designed around each car's own capacities. When a car only has 1-1/4-inch hitches made for it this means the vehicle frame simply does not offer enough strength to make a 2-inch Class III hitch usable. For your car only 1-1/4-inch Class II hitches are offered. All are shown on the linked page. Of the options available, I suggest the Curt # C12343 because it offers no-drill installation. The Brophy Hitch Adapter # HTAD is designed to adapt the 1-1/4 inch hitch opening to a 2 inch hitch opening. However, for your application, I would not recommend using any hitch adapter. The problem with using hitch adapters is it will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The tongue weight capacity of the Curt hitch, # C12343, is 350 lbs. Using the hitch adapter will drop that down to 175 lbs. The max tongue weight will include the weight of the motorcycle carrier,...

It is possible to use your 2 inch accessories in a class II, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch. You would have to use a hitch expander, 1-1/4 to 2 inch. However, the use of an expander will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. It appears that the vast majority of trailer hitches for a 2011 Toyota Camry have a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds. There are 2 hitches available for your 2007 Toyota Camry XLE with a V6 and dual exhaust, the Curt hitch part # C12343 and the Draw Tite hitch part # 36416. I would recommend the Draw-Tite part # 36416. For trailer wiring you would want the Curt wiring harness part # C55567 and then for a hitch ball I would recommend the 1-7/8 inch ball part # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258.

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2010 Lexus ES350
The only available trailer hitch option we carry for the 2010 Lexus ES350 is Curt Trailer Hitch, # 12343. I have included a link to the installation details below. This is a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4 inch receiver. The bike rack you choose will need to be compatible with this size trailer hitch. Curt also states that per their warranty requirements, a stabilizing strap must be used on non-trailer loads, # 18050. For a compatible bike rack, I recommend the Thule Helium, # TH9042PRO....

  • Why is the Support Bracket on the 2011 Toyota Camry SE Not Reinstalled with Draw-Tite Class II Hitch
The drivers side bracket is not reinstalled with the Draw-Tite Class II Trailer Hitch, # 36416, because the bracket will not fit once the trailer hitch is in position. I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and he says once the hitch is installed, the end plate and vehicle frame do not lose support. He said the trailer hitch ties into both end plates and the trunk pan so the support bracket is not needed. If you would like a trailer hitch that will mount to the end plate and the vehicle...

  • How to Pick Out the Correct Ball Mount for a 2011 Toyota Camry to Tow Trailer Level
I attached an FAQ article to the right on how to pick out the correct rise/drop ball mount for a towing setup so that a trailer can be towed level. But based on the two dimensions you gave me you will need a ball mount with a 4 inch rise. For that you would want the part # 3594. As long as your trailer coupler takes a 2 inch ball the # 19258 would work well with the # 3594 so that your trailer can be towed level.
