Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Ford Fusion - Curt

Today on our 2015 Ford Fusion we're going to review and install the CURT class two 1-1/4" receiver tube hitch, part number C12091. Now here's what our hitch is going to look like once it's installed. As you can see, or not see, this is a super nice hitch because our crosstube is hidden behind the rear fascia. The only thing really exposed is our fully welded hitch, nice black powder coating, our chain hold downs on either side of our 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" receiver tube, and the pre-drilled 1/2" hole for your pin and clip. Now this is a class two hitch so we have up to 350 pounds of tongue weight and 3,500 pounds of two capacity. Next I'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier.

From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 4-1/2". From the top of the receiver tube opening down to the ground is 11-1/2". We'll now go ahead with the installation. Now to begin our install we first need to remove the rear fascia here. Now there are multiple fasteners to be removed. We're going to start with our push pin fasteners.

To remove those we're just going to use our flat blade screwdriver, prying out the center of the fastener, and then we can remove it completely. We've got two of those, one on each side. Now we also have some screws here across the back that will need to be removed. As you can see, there's a total of six screw fasteners, three on each side. Now here on the corner of the fascia where it meets the frame, we'll need to remove the nut that secures it. Again, we'll have one on each side.

Now with our two corner fasteners removed, we'll go here on the rear fascia. We've got two more fasteners. We've got the same style nut fasteners as we did on the corners, and then a plastic nut fastener. Now once we have the fasteners removed we can go ahead and pull the fascia down and out, setting it aside as it will not be reinstalled. Now with our fascia removed we need to go ahead and reinstall the two push pin fasteners resecuring the lower bumper fascia to the bracket underneath. Now with both those in place, let's go ahead and point out our attachment points.

We're going to have a total of four attachment points, two on each side, so each process and hardware we use here on the driver side will get repeated identically on the passenger side. The round hole here in the frame will be our forward attachment point and the oval hole will be our rear attachment point. Using the larger oval hole here off to the side of the frame is going to be our access hole for getting our 3/4" block and bolt into the frame. Our carriage bolt will engage the block once it's in the frame, coming down through the attachment point, creating our fastener. That will then get secured with our 1/2" flange nut. Now to get our hardware in the frame we're going to use the 1/2" bolt leader supplied with the install kit. Our bolt leader will go through the attachment point and then out the access hole. Once we bring it out the access hole we're going to slide on our block and thread on the carriage bolt. We'll then feed the block and bolt into the frame separately. Once into the frame, we can use the pull wire, pull them into position and out our attachment point. Now there's our rear attachment point. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process for our forward attachment point. Note we are going to leave the bolt leaders attached to the carriage bolts, as it will assist with getting our hitch up into place without pushing the hardware back in the frame. Again, we'll feed the block in, followed by our carriage bolt, and pull them in place. Just like that we've got our driver side carriage bolts in position. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now with all of our hardware in place we're ready to install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your pull wire and fasteners. Our pull wire will go through the forward and rear pre-drilled holes of our hitch. Bring it up to the frame, remove our pull wire, and install our flange nut. Now as we install our fasteners we'll just install them finger tight until we have them all in place. Quick tech tip: putting a little side pressure on the carriage bolt as you install your flange nut can make it easier to get it started. Now with the hitch in place and our hardware installed, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. Now with our hitch tightened down we'll go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch installed, tightened, and torqued to specifications, we're ready to hit the road. There you have it for the CURT class tow 1-1/4" receiver tube hitch, part number C12091, on our 2015 Ford Fusion. .

Thank you to Jennifer B. I Love my new trailer hitch. My experience has been nothing but GREAT with etrailer. I got 4 estimates in the Atlanta area to have this hitch installed. All were in the $300.00 range just for the hitch. After finding your website on Google I easily maneuvered thru it to find what I was looking for. Before biting off more than I could chew I watched the you tube install video to make sure I felt confident I could install it. They made it very clear on everything needed to be done. Instead of ordering online I wanted to call and make sure I was ordering the right part. I called and Jennifer answered right away. She confirmed I was ordering the right part and took my order. I ordered at the beginning of the week and the trailer hitch and ball were sitting at my house by the weekend. The product is top quality and packed to make sure it got to me with no scratches or dings. I was able to install the products in the 30 minute time that they had said on the video. It was very easy. Etrailer saved me $170.00 I will buy again soon. 175806

I'm a country boy trapped in a city man's life, daily commute, family car, life in a small 1/3 acre lot. I miss my truck and feeling like I can toss anything in the back whether it is some brush from the back yard or some 2x4s for working on the house. I bought this hitch for larger loads (on my 2016 Fusion) when I can't cram things in the trunk with the back seats laid down. I've used it a few times and has worked well to pick up a trailer for the day. I'm a DIYer and it was a quick install. I would definitely recommend a torque wrench because it requires a pretty stiff setting and you don't want this thing to come loose. Overall, I am very satisfied. The hitch went in well, it seems extremely solid, and has worked as advertised. Just an FYI, you'll also need to install a trailer connector with your car's brake light system before [major trailer lender] will allow you to rent (they check to make sure it works). We've talked about buying a bicycle hitch for it. Haven't done it yet, but think it should hold up just fine. 705939
