I just completed the install of the curt hitch on my 2017 Ford Fusion se. Let me begin by saying, I didn’t want to do this. My car is fully customized and I show it in location and national events, the last thing I wanted to do is mount a trailer hitch in this car. But we were blessed to have our family grow and I still want to go to shows in other states, so this hitch was nessary. The kit comes with absolutely everything you need for a smooth and trouble free install, the bolt threading wires are a god send. This was a 2 out of 10 on difficulty scale only because I did it by myself and had to hold the hitch up with one hand while I put the nuts on with the other. The hitch is beautifully painted and wrapped for shipping, boxed in a rough secure package. The tong hangs just below the rear plastic bumper and doesn’t look terrible on my car. My car is equipped with air ride and I’m thinking of hooking a drag block to the bottom of the bar to throw sparks when going down the highway. If you need one I suggest you buy this hitch .

2017 Ford Fusion

Easy to install. The only tricky part is mounting the actual hitch to the vehicle (its heavy and awkward). Would definitely recommend having a second person (or 2 additional people) to assist with this step. I was able to re-install the underbody panel. I trimmed the ends off each side with a jigsaw so the panel sits inside the width of the hitch when installed. I used a rotary tool to remove the six plastic ribs on the underbody side of the panel so it can sit flush when the hitch is installed. Per the manufacture's recommendations and many reviews, it is not necessary to re-install underbody panel but I thought I would give it a shot, and it turned out great. Overall a great looking concealed hitch. I only plan to use for bike rack (no trailering). I recommend etrailer.

Easy install! Video instruction on website was great. This was installed on 2017 Ford Fusion SE with the car on the ground (didn't need to lift the car up although it would have made things a little easier). Hardest part was lifting the hitch into place. Used the car's jack to lift it up into place and my son helped get the bolts on. Very happy with the hitch.

Although Ford does not recommend ANY towing on a Fusion Hybrid, I installed this hitch in order to facilitate using a hitch platform for my 95 year old mother's wheelchair. Install was easy, if not identical to the hitch I installed on a 2013 Ford C-Max. No drilling and 'fishing' four bolts was easy. The most difficult step in the install was lifting and aligning the receiver to the bolts, which I did accomplish single handed with assistance from a floor jack. Even without the plastic shield everything is secure under the vehicle.

2015 Ford Fusion

The Curt hitch #C12091 is a very well made piece. It fits perfectly under my 2015 Ford Fusion. It's a great design, in that it fits up under the car except for just the receiver tube and chain loops. Most people would not even notice it. It's sturdy, solid, has nice welds, and has a very nice powder coat. You do need to remove the plastic panel under the rear to make room for the hitch. This took less than 5 minutes with a socket on a cordless driver. Some have expressed concern about not putting the panel back into place after the install. The hitch takes up most of the space though. I have driven at highway speeds since the install and I cannot detect any difference in wind noise or any rattle / shake noise from anything catching any wind back there. I did the install by myself with the car on the ground. I had a slight slant to the driveway helping me a bit. But there's room to install the hitch without raising the car if you want. The bolt guides are absolute genius! Watch etrailer's install video. It really is that easy! After threading the blocks and bolts through the holes, I was able to lift one side of the hitch up and start the two bolts on that side loosely. Then I raised the other side and started those bolts. Then just snug it all up. I used a 1/2 inch drive torque wrench that's about 2 feet long to torque the bolts. And when laying down on your side under the car, it can be tough to get enough leverage to get the wrench to click! If you don't have the right tools for that part, I would suggest you just tighten the bolts as well as you can with a wrench, then stop in at a local tire place and ask if they can torque them for you. (Obviously, don't use the hitch for hauling until you get it torqued correctly!) I've used mine several times already and it's a great product! (The pics show the hitch used with a Swagman two bike rack - which etrailer also sells - and is an awesome rack! Even with the weird frame of the Cannondale Super V 2000) Shipping: I've used etrailer several times and they have always had my stuff to me fast. Faster than expected sometimes! This time was a little different. I hadn't heard from them after the initial order for over a week. I had ordered the hitch and a strap made by Curt to help secure a bike rack. The items showed in stock, so I called to see why it hadn't shipped. The lady was very nice and explained that the strap was out of stock and they were waiting on that to ship the hitch. I asked if she could have the hitch shipped so I could get it installed, and they could send the strap whenever. She said that they could do that and the hitch went out that day. Oddly, when I got the hitch, the strap was in the box also. I was surprised they didn't email me during the initial time to tell me what was up. But their customer service has always been so good, I may be holding them to a higher standard than I would compared to other companies out there that you never hear from at all! All in all, great product (#C12091), from a great manufacturer (Curt), from a great online provider (etrailer.com)! Thanks!

Good product, installation instructions (video on product page & paper instructions sent with the shipment) for the hitch & wiring and hardware provided made the job a breeze. Have towed 3 times till now and haven't noticed any cracks or deformities on the hitch. Wire length provided was more than sufficient. On a 2016 Ford Fusion only the receiver is visible, rest of the hardware is out of sight which is what i wanted.

Great support,if and when needed! Installation process very easy... simple with help! I undercoated all exposed areas the shield protected then installed the hitch. Took me an hour not rushing. Then I decided to cut down the heat shield so I could install it to complete the job to 110% satisfaction.

I ordered this product and it arrived in 2 days. It was exactly as described and it fits perfectly. The installation was very simple thanks to the video with the instructions they uploaded. For me it took more than 20 minutes because I installed it myself and I did not lift the car that much. I used a car jack to lift the car about 30cm off the ground. The hard part was until I managed to screw the first nut, after that the hitch stood in place and I could screw all the other very easy. Pros: - price (lower compared to other offers I had) - durable - nice look and finish - very easy to install, you can do it yourself - hardware included (not the wrench) Cons: - it requires the removal of the wind deflector This product may have other pros / cons different from the ones listed above; however, this is what I experienced so far. I definitely recommend this hitch.

Well engineered and built product for installation on my 2014 Ford Fusion. It’s nice that the only part of it visible is the square hitch attachment and safety hook attachments. Only 1 improvement would’ve been nice is to be able to reinstall bottom plastic shield but probably not possible.

The trailer hitch took about an hour to install. I'm 76 and I did it in my garage by myself. I'm too old to crawl around under a car but old habits die hard. The tube video was excellent.

- C12091
by:

Instructions rate this as "moderately" difficult. It's really very easy. If you can jack a car up and support it, you can put this hitch on. It's 4 bolts. Instruction video suggests a helper to support the hitch while bolting up. I didn't have one but managed easily myself. Really a simple install. Nicely finished hitch. Most is hidden under car. Only square receiver visible. Fish wires supplied with hitch are the key to this easy install. Very nice build quality on hitch, good welds, nice black painted finish. Hitch will be used for bike rack, light towing and cargo rack on a 2015 Ford Fusion Titanium.

The installation kit was great and it went on easily. I use this hitch to hold a motorcycle carrier I use to carry my dirtbikes around on. I would recommend this to anyone who has a Ford fusion and needs to install a hitch mount.

I'm very happy with this trailer hitch receiver, and with the fast and friendly service from etrailer.com! I haven't actually used it for anything yet, as I just put it on yesterday, but it seems very solid, it was easy to install, and as you can see from the photos, it is very unobtrusive once installed. Almost all of it is hidden behind the bumper, which is one of the things I liked about this hitch receiver. I got it to hold a bicycle rack, and when I don't have the rack installed, I like that you can barely see there is a trailer hitch on the car. The photos and videos on the website were very helpful in showing how it would look on my car, and explaining how it was installed. I was able to do it by myself in 90 minutes, which includes the time it took me to get the tools out and put them away. It would have gone easier/quicker if I had someone to help me raise it into position while I threaded the nuts on, but I was able to rig up some supports to help me hold it in place. That was actually the hardest part, so if you have a helper, that will be good. I think I might have been able to do the job without raising the back end, but it would have been tight. I used some ramps, and that gave me more room to work. Ramps, or jack stands, or some kind of lift would definitely be helpful. And I rented a torque wrench from the local auto parts store, as I didn't own one. The installation was pretty straightforward, as shown on the very helpful videos on this website. Thanks etrailer.com! I will definitely be back here for other trailer-related needs.

I chose the Curt model over the Draw Tite due to the higher capacity (350 lbs vs 200 lbs). I use it primarily to carry a bikes on a hitch-mounted rack. My hitch shipped out the day I ordered it, and I received it 2 days later. It came with all necessary hardware, and wire to fish mounting bolts through the frame of my vehicle. It came with printed instructions, and there are also videos showing how to install it on the etrailer website. Installation was easy. No drilling or cutting. I removed the OEM underbody shield, and the mounting bolts go right into already existing frame holes. I was able to do it on my own, but a second set of hands to hold the hitch in place while starting the nuts would have been nice. It looks great on the vehicle, nice low profile.

by:

Probably the easiest install I've done. After removing the cover it bolted right up with no issues. It is tucked away mostly so you don't really see it which is great. The ball ends up being about 1" away from the bumper though, so it can be a bit of a tight fit. Works great for hauling bikes and hauling trailers.

Dear Carol; I ordered the hitch receiver on Mon.from N/W Fl and received it on Thur. I think that's very good service. I already have it installed on the car took me a little more than the 40 min. you quoted but I think it was pretty easy as it was for a 75 yr old a good selection of parts and a comparable price. Thanks for your help. Don H.

This is the 2nd trailer hitch I've gotten for a Ford Fusion. First was on my 14, now on my 17. LOVE them! Easy install, great product. Same with the Swagman bike rack. I highly recommend etrailer. You can go wrong with this business!

by:

Super easy to install. Best if you can use car ramps to make getting under car easier. I also decided to do what the instructions and the videos say you don't need to do. That is modify the fascia to put back in place. I chose to do this as I have the Hybrid and wanted to maintain the aerodynamics that this piece provided. The one picture shows the 3 small pieces removed and not used.I went one step further and used stainless steel tape used for furnace ducts to stabilize the ends not attached by the stock screws. I do not feel I would have needed the tape to have a successful job. I then spray painted the tape black so you would not see it once vehicle was on ground. I am extremely please with the provided instructions and the video specific to my vehicle was outstanding.

Bought this receiver mainly for my bike carrier. I’ve been a mechanic and auto enthusiast for years and always helping friends work on their vehicles including mounting numerous receivers. This was by far the easiest one I’ve ever installed and didn’t even need to raise the rear end to do it in about 20 minutes. It is sturdy and gets the job done for small trailer towing as well! Highly recommend.

2016 Ford Fusion

Watched the installation video and was confident I could do it myself. I used a jack and jack stands to lift the vehicle and make accessing the holes in the frame easier. I’m not sure if it can be done w/o lifting the vehicle. Maybe... Anyway feeding the fish wire through was a little tricky at first but I quickly became proficient after fishing the first bolt through. I had to recruit my wife to thread the nuts as I lifted the hitch in place. Warning! Carefull with this step as you can easily push the bolts back through. My wife got all four nuts threaded successfully and I torqued them down the rest of the way. I don’t even think it took us 30 minutes. Awesome product!

  • Towing Capacity and Parts Need to Tow a Trailer with a 2016 Ford Fusion
The towing capacity of your 2016 Ford Fusion won't change based on the hitch you choose. According to its owner's manual the Fusion can tow 2,000 pounds if it's the 2.0L GTDI model. Otherwise its max is 1,000 pounds unless you have the Hybrid or Energi models which are not rated to tow at all. The hitch I recommend for your Fusion is the Curt # C12091. I like the Curt because they're generally built better than some others and just as reasonably priced. All of our prices on the product...

  • Trailer Hitch Hardware Recommendation for Curt for 2017 Ford Fusion
Curt hitches like the # C12091 do fit 2015 and 2017 Ford Fusions. Since you are missing most of the hitch though it's going to be easier for you to just replace the entire thing with a new # C12091. Otherwise we have the replacement hardware kit part # RHK which will require you to enter the part number of the hitch you have as well as select Curt from the drop down menu and we'll ship you out the correct hardware for the hitch.

  • Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2019 Ford Fusion Hybrid
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Ford Fusion hybrid is the Draw Tite part # 24897 since you'll be carrying a wheelchair. The reason is that because unlike the Curt hitch that fits your vehicle this hitch does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load. This hitch as a 200 lb tongue weight capacity so you'd need a carrier like the Surco part # 52017 which will fit this hitch, has more than enough capacity needed, and is lightweight enough that you'd still...

  • Ground Clearance With Curt Hitch on 2015 Ford Fusion Energi
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12091 is a confirmed fit for your 2015 Ford Fusion Energi and will be about 1 inch less ground clearance do to the trimming of the underbody panel. If you will be using this hitch for accessories like a bike rack, then you will need the Curt support strap # 18050. The Energi models are not rated for towing according to the owners manual.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for a 2013 Ford Fusion SEL Hybrid
Hi Neighbor! I'd recommend the Curt trailer hitch # C12091 for your 2013 Ford Fusion SEL because it's a Class-II rated hitch. It will have a 350 pound tongue weight maximum. Note that Curt requires a stabilization strap like # 18050 when adding any non-trailer loads such as a bike rack. If you don't secure the bikes it will void your hitch warranty from Curt. Secondly, the hitch bike rack I would go with is the Kuat Beta # B202-114 because it's aluminum and only weighs 12.5 pounds....

  • What are the Trailer Towing Capacities for a 2014 Ford Fusion
Before deciding on a trailer to tow with your 2014 Ford Fusion, knowing the towing limitations of your vehicle will be an important factor. In the owner's manual for the 2014 Fusion, it lists the maximum trailer weight of all the powertrain options for this vehicle. The manual states that your vehicle may tow a Class I trailer with the max trailer weight of 1,000 lbs for 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2.5L powertrains and 2,000 lbs for the 2.0L powertrain models. Therefore, depending on your engine...

  • How to Tow a Trailer with a 2017 Ford Fusion SE
In order to tow a trailer with your 2017 Ford Fusion, you are going to need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12091 which has a Class II rating with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. This hitch is a direct fit for your Fusion and will not require any drilling. It is also very easy to install as you can see in the attached video. Then for a wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring...

  • How Much Weight Can I Tow With 2017 Ford Fusion 1.5L Eco-Boost Engine
I took a look at the owner's manual for the 2017 Ford Fusion and the 1.5L GTDI Eco-boost Engine and the maximum trailer weight that it can tow is 1,000 lbs that is including the cargo inside the trailer itself. So if you used the 4x8 cargo trailer for example, it weighs 850 lbs empty so you would only be able to put 150 lbs of cargo in it to tow it with your Fusion. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12091 is a good choice for the Fusion as long as it's not considered the Sport...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring to Tow JetSki Trailer with a 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium
Curt trailer hitch # C12091 is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight which exceeds the capacity of the 2016 Ford Fusion by 1,500 pounds. This means that you are still limited to the vehicle capacity even though the hitch can handle more weight. So yes, the hitch can easily handle an 1,100 pound trailer. The recommended ball mount for this hitch is # C45016. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # A-80. For a 2 inch ball use # A-82. And for trailer wiring you will need # 118574 since you have...

  • Why Does Trailer Hitch for 2013 Ford Fusion Have Higher Towing Capacity than Vehicle
Our trailer hitches are designed with the towing capacity of the vehicle they are intended for in mind, but they are then rated separately which is why you'll see a lot of time our hitches having higher towing capacities than the vehicles they fit. So we have the Curt hitch part # C12091 which is a great option that has a 3,500 lb towing capacity by itself, but when installed on your 2013 Ford Fusion it would have only the lower vehicle rating as the overall capacity.

We have just what you need, a replacement hitch hardware kit, part # RHK. All you need to do is check the safety sticker on the hitch to find its brand name and part number. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation Thats Compatible with Kuat NV Bike Rack for 2014 Ford Fusion
The most economical hitch choice to carry a 2 bike rack on your Ford Fusion would be the Draw-Tite Class I trailer hitch, part # 24897. The Curt Class II # C12091 you referenced is a bit less expensive, but Curt's warranty requires that a stabilizing strap like # 18050 be used for extra support. Since the Draw-Tite hitch doesn't require the strap, all told it'll be less expensive. The Draw-Tite Class I hitch I recommended would work perfectly well with the Kuat NV bike rack you mentioned,...
