Video Transcript for Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Trax

Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 Chevrolet Trax we're gonna be installing CURTs class one, one and a quarter trailer hitch receiver, part number C11527.And this is what your hitch is gonna look like when it's installed on your vehicle. As you can see, most of it's tucked up pretty well underneath of it. You still can see the cross tube a little bit. For the most part, if you;re up above, you're only gonna see the end of the receiving tube so it won't distract from the looks of the vehicle. It's a class one, one and a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch receiving tube, which is gonna be great for carrying bike racks, cargo carries, and for extremely light towing. And it features plate style safety chain loops that are extra long and wide so it shouldn't have any problem accommodating any size safety chain, whether it be a small one or a large one.It features a 200 pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top of the receiver, and a 2,000 pound gross towing capacity, which is how much it can pull behind it. Now, you do wanna make sure you check your vehicle's owners manual to ensure that you're not exceeding its towing capacities.Additionally, CURT does recommend that you use a stabilization strap when hauling any non-trailer loads.

Essentially, that's anything that doesn't have wheels. And now I've got some measurements for you, to help you when decided on accessories. From the top inside edge of the receiving tube to the ground, it's gonna measure about 11 inches. Now, this is pretty low so you may want to consider getting accessories with a inaudible 00:01:20. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, it's gonna measure about six and a half inches. This is important when deciding on any folding accessories, whether they can fold into the upright position. We begin our installation by lowering our exhaust. You're gonna want to put a strap in place first to prevent any damage from occurring when you lower it down, so you don't lower it too far.Spray a little lubricant on it to make it come off easier and then just pry your hangers right off.

Repeat the same thing on the other side. Now, use a little spray lubricant and spray out your weld nuts on the side. And clean them out with a small brush. You can pick one up here at And clean out the holes on the other side as well.Next, we'll need to feed in our carriage bolts and spacers into the bottom of our frame here.

We're gonna be going in this hole here. Now, our brake line is right there, so we're gonna use the little pry bar, and we are just gonna pop that right out of the clip. And just gently move that out of the way. That way we can pull it back to feed our wires in.And now you wanna check the bolts that come with your kit. There are weld nuts on the side of your frame that we cleaned out, and there's two potential thread pitches.

There's a course pitch here on the right, and a fine pitch here on the left. So before you raise your hitch up, you wanna try to thread one of these bolts in and see which one is right for your vehicle. On our vehicle, we're gonna be using the course. And then take your fish wire, go up through the small hole, we're gonna come right back down the larger hole next to it. Slide on your spacer, and then thread on one of the carriage bolts. Push your spacer up into the frame, then feed your carriage bolt up into the frame, and pull it back down. You repeat that same process on the other side. Now, we'll raise our hitch into position. We've got ourselves an extra set of hands to make it easier. You'll start on the passenger side by going up over the exhaust, so we'll work that one up in there. Make sure to pull your fish wire and inset it down through the rear most holes.Once you've got your passenger side up over the exhaust you can get your drivers side up. Make sure to feed the fish wire down on that side as well. Lift it into place and get one bolt started on the side of the frame on each side. This will make it easier to install the rest of your hardware.Place a conical tooth washer with the teeth facing towards your hitch, and thread it into place. And now install the rest of your hardware on each side. Now, thread off your fish wire. Thread one of the flange nuts on your rear carriage bolt. You'll then to the same thing on the other side. Now, tighten and torque all of the hardware to the specifications in your instructions. We'll tighten our side bolts with a 19 millimeter socket. And torque and tighten your nuts using a 18 millimeter socket. Now, reinstall your exhaust. A little bit of spray lubricant will make it easier to slide it back on. Just lift it into position and push it right back on. Do that for both your hangers.Once your exhaust is installed, you can take down your cable that you we're using to support your exhaust. And now you're ready to hit the road. And that completes our installation of CURT's class one one and a quarter inch trailer receiver on our 2017 Chevrolet Trax.

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Do Trailer Hitch Receivers for 2017 Chevrolet Trax Include a Wiring Harness
  • We do have two trailer hitch receivers to fit your 2017 Chevrolet Trax: a Curt # C11527 and a Draw-Tite # 36554. Neither of them include a wiring harness. As of right now we only carry one wiring harness for your Trax, the Tekonsha # 118751. It plugs into a factory connector that's in your rear cargo area under the floor cover and some interior paneling. Then you'll need to run a wire to the Trax's battery through the included fuse holder. The fuse is included as well. This harness...

  • Available Trailer Hitches For 2016 Buick Encore
  • The only trailer hitches available for your 2016 Encore are Class l and Class ll hitches like part # 36554 and part # C11527. The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 36554 is a Class ll and has the higher tongue weight and towing capacity than the Curt Class l hitch, part # C11527. Both hitches have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. If you can let me know what you wish to use the trailer hitch for I will be glad to see if we can make some recommendations that will work for you.

  • Will the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch From a 2013 Buick Encore Fit a 2014 Buick Encore
  • According to Curt, the manufacturer of the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, # C11527, this trailer hitch will fit the 2013 and 2014 Buick Encore. Buick did not make any changes in the mounting points for the trailer hitch on the 2014 models.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Chevy Trax that Does Not Rattle on Exhaust
  • For your 2018 Chevy Trax the Curt hitch part # C11527 that you referenced is a confirmed fit and was designed not to cause any interference with the exhaust so it would not touch the exhaust or rattle against it. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Troubleshooting Curt Hitch for 2017 Chevy Trax with Exhaust System Contact
  • The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11527 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Chevy Trax. The issue you are facing is not out of the norm, but a replacement hitch is not needed. It is fairly common for there to be issues with contact between a muffler or exhaust pipe and the solution is simply to bend the hanger on the exhaust or install different length rubber isolators. The exhaust systems have metal hangers that fit the rubber isolator and sometimes either the isolator or the hanger is...

  • Trailer Hitch Options For 2015 Buick Encore To Replace Damaged Trailer Hitch
  • I am sorry to hear about the trailer hitch you had on your 2015 Encore. I am curious though. Can you tell me what you had on the hitch at the time? If the hitch was installed properly and you were not carrying something that exceeded the weight capacity, the hitch should not have bent like that and certainly should not have hit the ground. Both of the Class l trailer hitches we offer for your Encore are round tube design as you said your hitch was. The Curt hitch # C11527 requires...

  • Comparing the Performance of the Curt and Draw-Tite Class I Hitches on a 2017 Chevrolet Trax
  • The Draw-Tite Class I, part # 36554 and the Curt Class I, part # C11527 really aren't stronger or weaker than each other, as the actual capacity will be determined by your vehicle. You can verify your vehicle's capacities in your owner's manual or with your manufacturer. That being said, if you have a greater than 250 pound capacity on your vehicle, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite hitch, as exceeding the hitch's rated capacity is going to risk damage to your vehicle's frame. • Trailer Hitch for a 2015 Buick Encore
  • The wiring for a 2015 Buick Encore is # C56216 and won't be an included item with the Curt Class-I trailer hitch # C11527. The reason wiring harnesses do not come with the hitch is because some vehicles already have a trailer wiring harness so we make them available separately. The hitch # C11527 comes with a complete hardware kit and instructions. If you happen to need a ball mount and hitch ball, I recommend ball mount # C45520 and 2 inch hitch ball # C40018 or a 1-7/8 inch ball...
