Toyota Prius

Hitch is well made, but the install was more hassle than need be. On my Prius the mounting holes in the hitch were an aggravating 1/8th inch too narrow. Once you find the right block of wood you can lever the hitch just that much wider and get the bolts started. You might file the holes a little bit ahead of time and make the job easier. ( a lot easier), this is an easy install made harder by poor engineering. Also, the pin that holds the thing you are inserting into the hitch is misdrilled and you cannot get the clip to fully engage, crazy! ( The orientation of the clip hole vs the handle on the pin just isn't right. This is an issue as the clip is almost engaged, but not fully. I'll grind the end and imagine it will work. Again, no one is really paying attention to what they are selling you. 409886

March 2013 - '07 Toyota Prius Curt Hitch. This is my second Curt hitch from etrailer.com, and they are great products that hold up well even with the salt and sand in winter. The Prius hitch is very easy to install for a DIY'er. It takes about 45 minutes with only basic tools. The instructions are clear and the hitch lined up perfectly. This hitch is perfect for light duty or a bike rack, and is barely noticeable once installed. It is my opinion that the Curt hitch is worth the extra money as it is a very high quality product. 72295

The hitch was easy to install, the video on etrailer web site was helpful in installing it. we bought the hitch for a bike rack , as older Priuses are quite recommended for towing but you could tow a samll light trailer. 816449

I wanted a 2 bike carrier and a hitch to fit my 2005 Prius. Etrailer provided both. When I ran into a problem installing the hitch on my car, etrailer personnel responded immediately to help me resolve it. I am very happy with the quick delivery and friendly attention to my issue. The prices were fair too. 809834

I had purchase another one that the receiver butted into the crossbar and it did not allow my bike carrier to engage into it as far as I wanted it to so that it would be in tighter to the bumper. This one the crossbar welds to each side of the receiver allowing my bike carrier to have more engagement or adjustment to get the bike carrier closer to the bumper of the vehicle. The bike carrier has absolutely no movement being able to engage into the receiver deeper. 797992

Very simple installation. Remove a small segment of plastic underbody, remove factor installed brackets on hitch mounts, install new etrailer product, cut out section of plastic underbody and reinstall. I have towed light loads and the prius does just fine. This product has good welds and feels to be of high quality. I would purchase this again. 795451

Products seems very well-built and painted, I expect it will last for the life of the car, if not beyond. Only flaw on build is that manufacturer could have cleaned up weld splash before painting. E-Trailer could do a better job in packing item. Ends of hitch should be covered with padding (cardboard, etc) Sharp edges of heavy items will tend to blow through box. Arrived with minor scratches. Hitch was very easy to attach, holes aligned perfectly making an install straight forward! 557563

So far the hitch receiver has held up beautifully! As far as I know, it fit onto my Prius with no problems (I had a mechanic install it, because I didn't have any way to raise my car). A week after installing, I drove across the country with this and a bike rack attached, with no problems of any kind. I can't ask for anything else. 413510

Very satisfied with the Curt trailer hitch receiver on my 2006 Prius. Thanks to great instructions, especially the video, it was easy to install with no lift needed. The fascia fasteners on my car didn't quite match the video - 5 of the 6 fasteners were different from the others - but all were easy to remove and replace. Just returned from an 800 mile trip with 2 bikes on a new hitch rack. I used the stabilization strap and there was no bounce and very little side to side sway. Thanks etrailer! 395006

Installed easily. One complaint is that you can not fit the cotter pin into the hitch pin without bending one of the chain loops down a little. The hitch pin needed to rotate more. 390038

Worked as advertised. Installation was straight forward. Instructions were sufficient. I was able to do it without assistance even though I was 77 years old. I cannot comment on the strength of the hitch as I only use it for my bike rack. 269727

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch

  • Comparing Trailer Hitch Options for Carrying 2" Bike Rack on a 2006 Toyota Prius
Betweeen the Curt # C11468 and Draw-Tite # 24808 for your 2006 Toyota Prius, I recommend the Curt simply because we have found that they tend to have better welds and a thicker powder coat than other options on the market. All of this translates into a more durable hitch that you can rely on. While you can use an adapter like the Brophy # HTAD to carry a bike rack with a 2" shank, we typically advise against this for a few reasons. First of all it's more connection points so there are...

  • 2 inch Hitch Adapter Availability for 2007 Toyota Prius for Using a Bike Rack
All the hitches that we have that are for a 2007 Toyota Prius are Class I hitches and have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. Due to the attachment points on the vehicle and the weight rating of a Class I hitch it is limited to carrying 2 bikes. Some manufacturers have have installed stops in the hitches to make them specifically exclusive to using Class I rated hitch accessories, including bike racks. I have included a helpful article that explains this further. A hitch adapter might be...

  • Can Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, Part # 11468, Haul 2000 lbs with a 2009 Prius
The 2009 Prius is not specified to tow anything, according to the manufacturer. However, you will want to double check your owners manual to confirm the manufacturer recommendations and precautions in this regard. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar - Custom Fit, part # 11468, will fit your vehicle. It is intended for purposes such as supporting a bike rack or small cargo carrier. This light-duty Class I hitch receiver has a tongue weight (TW) rating of 200 pounds, which is...

  • Recommended Ball Mount or Draw Bar for a 2005 Toyota Prius
The correct draw bar for your 2005 Toyota Prius will depend on the trailer hitch that you have installed. All of the trailer hitches available for your vehicle are Class I rated hitches. Trailer hitch manufacturers recommend using the draw bar that was specifically tested with their hitch. For example, if you have the Curt Class I Trailer Hitch, # C11468, installed, then the draw bar that you will want is part # C45521. If you have the Draw-Tite Class I Hitch, # 24808, then you will...

  • Where Does a Stabilizing Strap Attach for a Cargo Carrier and CURT Trailer Hitch, 2009 Toyota Prius
CURT Class I, II, and some Class III trailer hitches do require the use of stabilizing strap # 18050 on all non-trailer loads to be in compliance with the CURT warranty. A non-trailer load would include a cargo carrier, so you would need to use the strap. One end of the strap would be secured to the cargo carrier, the other end has a rubber coated hook. This hook can be placed in the gap between the trunk lid or hatch and the body of the vehicle on a Toyota Prius. The purpose of the...

If you use the provided links, you can see install videos for both the hitch and the wiring harness. You'll also need a ball mount like # C45521, a trailer ball like # A-82 for a 2 inch ball or # A-80 for a 1-7/8 inch ball and a pin and clip like # F-4.

I'd highly recommend you check your owners manual or with Toyota about using the Prius for towing. I do know that they don't recommend it for certain model years. I'd recommend Draw-Tite part # 24808. If you decide to use the vehicle for towing, you would also need a ball mount and trailer wiring harness like part # 118505. • Recommended Bike Rack for Cross Country Trip with 2008 Toyota Prius
For your upcoming cross country trip (and every trip, short or long, thereafter) I highly recommend a hitch-mounted bike rack for your 2008 Toyota Prius. I'm not sure if this was already the way you were leaning but even if your Prius isn't already equipped with a hitch, adding one and a bike rack is a much better setup than a trunk-mounted carrier, especially for longer trips. A hitch-mounted rack will offer greater support and stability for the bikes, won't leave any scuff marks or...

  • Distance From Hitch Pin Hole to End of Receiver on Draw-Tite and Curt Hitches for 2005 Toyota Prius
From the hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver tube of the Curt # C11468 is 1-7/8 inches and the same measurement on Draw-Tite # 24808 is 2-1/8 inches. They're both a Class I hitch receivers so you'll need to use accessories specifically designed for Class I. You should know, the Curt hitch requires you to use a support strap, # 18050, when using the hitch to carry a bike rack.

  • Where to Attach Stabilizing Straps when Using the Curt Hitch # 11468 On a 2008 Toyota Prius
You would attach a stabilizing strap like the Curt Bike Rack Strap with Cambuckle, # 18050, to the T where the upright bar meets the cross bar that holds the bike rack arms on the Thule bike rack. You would then attach the rubber coated hook on the end of the strap to the metal trunk lip on the vehicle and tighten the strap. You do not want to put undue stress on the lip when tightening the strap. The Curt Class I Hitch, # 11468, and your 2008 Toyota Prius are not designed to carry 4...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2010 Toyota Prius
In 2010 they redesigned the Prius enough to require a new hitch fit. So the # C11468 would not carry over to your new Prius. Instead you'd want the Draw Tite part # 24847 which is a confirmed fit. I like this hitch over the Curt because it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Can Hitch from 2004 Toyota Prius Be Installed on 2010 Model
We do have a hitch fit for your 2010 Prius, but the Draw-Tite # 24808 that you purchased for your 2004 Prius fits 2004-2009 Toyota Prius models, but unfortunately not the 2010 model. For your 2010, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite # 24847. The hitch attachment points on the 2010 model are different than those of the 2004, so there's no safe way to modify your old hitch so it'll work. Attempting to modify the hitch can affect the strength of the steel that the hitch is constructed of, which...

It would also be my choice because it will offer a slightly easier installation. • Recommendation for Class I Trailer Hitch to be Used with Bike Carrier on 2009 Toyota Prius
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24808 and the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11468 are the two hitch options currently available for your 2009 Toyota Prius. I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24808. It is our most popular hitch for the 2009 and the main difference from the Curt model is that it does not require a stabilization strap for hitch mounted accessories. This is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver opening and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs which would be perfect for carrying lighter...

  • Curt 18110 compared to 18140
First lets talk about a hitch for your 2007 Toyota Prius, I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 24808. The reason for this is that Curt recommends you use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when you use a non-supported load on the hitch like a cargo carrier. Draw Tite doesn't have that requirement so I think you would be happier with the # 24808. Now the differences between the Curt Cargo Carriers part # C18110 and the # C18145 are pretty substantial. Our most popular hitch for your Prius is the Draw-Tite # 24808. I have included a short installation video for you.
