Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Nissan Maxima - Curt

.of 2011 Nissan Maxima. We're going to install part number 11352 from CURT. All right. This is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on the car. Next, we're going to give you some measurements that'll help you out in selecting some accesories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin opening to the edge of the bumper is five inches.

And from the top or receiver opening down to the ground will be nine and three quarter inches. Now, I'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First thing we need to do is go ahead and remove the mufflers from the car. We'll unbolt these fasteners here and here, then we can slide the mufflers off the exhaust. Spray them down with a lubricant.

Okay, and we'll slide it backwards and off the hanger. The passenger side is done, go ahead and repeat the same thing on the driver's side. The next thing is we let this hitch shield to get completely removed and get replaced by the hitch, so what we're going to do is drill off these rivets. Just repeat for the driver's side. Now, I got to go ahead and drill and access hole for our hardware because we have to run a hardware inside the frame.

Existing holes are two small to install the hardware. We're going to use an inch drill bit to drill and access hole. Now, the instructions say to enlarge this hole here however way you can install a hardware, but I'd rather leave it alone and just make a new hole on the end. That way so the hitch has lots of chance of moving around. All right, before installing the hardware, we're going to make sure you have attachment points.

The here and here. We use a fishwire tool that comes with the kit, and right inside the frame and off the access hole we drilled. Okay, we'll take our block. There I carry the bolt, push it to the side, and pull it through. Okay, repeat the same process through this point. Okay. Now, we'll finish up this side by spraying down our access hole with some undercoat. Then we'll go back over your driver's side and do it all over one more time. Okay. At this point, we can go ahead and install the hitch unto our hardware. Now, you definitely want to have extra hands to help you hold up the hitch while you install the hardware. Just to make sure you don't push the hardware back into the frame. Okay, and we have all our hardware installed. We can go ahead and tighten them down and then torque the bolts down as that's right in the instructions. All right. Now, we can go ahead and put the exhaust back into place. Okay. And with that, we've got it surely installed for part number 11352 on our 2011 Nissan Maxima.

The video installation instructions gave me the confidence to install the receiver myself and it went exactly as expected. Shipping was fast and the receiver appears to be of great quality. Now we can take the bikes with car and don't have to use the truck. 525832

Took a little over an hour to install with most of the time spent loosening the nuts to remove the rear mufflers. I followed the manufacturer instructions and enlarged one of the existing frame holes with a step bit, rather than drilling another access hole. It worked great. This hitch fits perfectly on my 2017 Maxima and is tucked in just right for my bike rack. I strongly recommend the product. 672297

The hitch went on just fine. If I have anything negative to say about the components is that the 4 bolts that were supplied with the kit could have been 1/8-1/4" longer. When fully torqued there was still 1-1/2 threads left unused in the mounting nuts. Why not go for full thread engagement? It is only stronger & there was nothing that would've been interfered with by a slightly longer bolt protruding from the nut. 155589

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Recommended Euro-Style Ball Mount for a 2015 Nissan Altima with Curt Class I Trailer Hitch
  • The recommended 2 inch Euro style ball mount for Curt trailer hitch # C11352 on a 2015 Nissan Altima is # C45572. I went out to the warehouse and pulled one to take some measurements. From the center of the pin hole to the part of the shank where it starts to bend up is 3 inches. This will work because the rear bumper on the Altima tapers upward above the hitch receiver. At 6-1/2 inches out from the center of the hitch pin hole, where the shank starts to bend straight up, it is at a...

  • Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitches for a 2013 Nissan Altima Sedan
  • As far as quality, all of the hitches for the 2013 Nissan Altima sedan are on par with each other. The Draw-Tite hitches (# 24796) undergoes additional voluntary testing procedures that other hitches do not. But both hitches, including Curt hitch # 11352, are built to meet or exceed required industry strength standards. The main difference is that the Curt hitch requires the use of a stabilization strap, # 18050, for any non-trailer load such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. Curt requires...

  • Will the Weight of a Trailer Hitch Cause Rear Tire Wear on a 2010 Nissan Maxima
  • The Curt trailer hitch # C11352 for your 2010 Nissan Maxima weighs all of 35 pounds. No worries about the hitch affecting tire wear or ride height or really anything. If you plan on doing some towing then you will also need ball mount # C45521. For a 1-7/8 inch ball you can use # A-80 and for a 2 inch ball use # A-82. And for trailer wiring you can use # 56022. If you plan on using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier the accessory must be compatible with a Class I trailer...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2013 Nissan Altima
  • It is not uncommon for a hitch to fit multiple vehicles. This is the case with Curt trailer hitch # C11352. It does indeed fit the Nissan Maxima and Altima sedan. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. If you plan on doing some towing with the hitch I recommend going with the ball mount # C45521 and pin and clip # F-4. Then you would just need a ball like # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter. For trailer wiring use # 118470. I've...

Since this is a Class I hitch you have to use the recommended ball mount part # 3592. For a 2 inch ball you would want the part # 19258 or for a 1-7/8 inch ball part # 19256. For trailer wiring you would want the # C59496 which I attached an install video that shows the harness being installed...

  • Do I Need To Remove Exhaust Heat Shields To Install CURT Trailer Hitch # 11352 On 2010 Nissan Altima
  • I do have some hitch options available for your 2010 Nissan Altima that do not require the removal of the heat shields, but the CURT trailer hitch # 11352, does require the heat shields to be removed. The Draw-Tite hitch # 24796 will allow you to retain the heat shields on your 2010 Nissan Altima. It is a Class I 1-1/4 model, and is has the same tongue weight and towing capacity of the CURT hitch # 11352 that you selected. To complete your towing setup, you will need the following...

  • Removing Exhaust Heat Shield When Installing Curt Class I Hitch on 2013 Nissan Altima
  • As you can see in the photo I assembled from captured images from the install video, the mounting flange of the hitch provides as much heat protection as the heat shield that is removed and discarded. The steel of the hitch mounting flange is much thicker than that of the heat shield. I checked with my contact in the engineering department at Curt Manufacturing, who assured me that the mounting flange will offer enough heat protection that a fire hazard will not exist.

  • What is the Towing Capacity of a 2014 Nissan Altima
  • I checked an online copy of the owners manual for your 2014 Nissan Altima and in section 9-17 it states not to tow a trailer with the vehicle. Trailer hitches should only be used for accessories such as bike racks or cargo carriers on this vehicle and not for towing a trailer. The Curt trailer hitch # C11352 itself has a capacity of 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight.

Their weight bearing capabilities and installation procedure are identical. For towing, you would also need a ball mount, trailer connector, part # 118470 and a 1-7/8 inch ( # 19256) or 2 inch ( # 19258) trailer ball. I recommend consulting your owner's manual or Nissan about any limitations your vehicle may have. If you have the towing capacity, then we have all the parts you will need right here. Another option is the Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" Hitches # TH9045 that would fit a 1-1/4" receiver and weighs 50lbs.
