I purchase two different products and installed both, back to back. I did not use a jack or a lift, so it took about 45 minutes to finesse this one into/onto my Toyota Prius. I needed a helper (wife) which made it much easier. This is for a bike rack. Ordered Friday and delivered Monday, fast, fast. Thank you. 229876

It has performed as my intended use. I have only used this for attaching a bicycle rack and holding 2 bicycles.

I’m super excited to use the hitch I just got. The installation went fairly smooth with a big help from the video. It took less than an hour for the 2 guys who were helping me. I’m not sure I could have done it alone. The hardest part seemed like attaching the hitch on the passenger side because of the exhaust. The spec for this product says to torque it to 86 lbs. I hope that is enough to carry the load it is manufactured to claim. The hitch looks great and hangs as it should but I hope it’s not to low since I am already scraping the bottom of my car on shitty Bay Area roads. I like how it doesn’t stick out past the bumper much at all so I won’t knock my shins. 655097

It's a well-made product. Installation was ok. It would have been better if I had a lift/ramps or a floor jack and jackstands to give me more working room. But it is possible to do the installation with the car sitting on the driveway. It just takes longer. The one thing that was a bit of a pain is the heat shield on the muffler. It is in the way of the passenger side bracket. If you can figure out a way to slip the shield above the plate on the towbar, it will end up getting sandwiched between the towbar plate and the muffler bracket. It wasn't worth the trouble so I just put a piece of rubber inner tube from a bicycle tire between the shield and the bodywork and fastened the bracket to the undercarriage. At least it won't rattle or abrade the paint/undercoating. It took me about 45 mins, working by myself. I'd buy it again and definitely get it from etrailer. This company is just awesome! 661500

Such a easy install it took me only 20mins from the ground I did back both rear wheels on a bricks to give me more room underneath to install the hitch I recommend lubricant on bolts and muffler hanger, I didn’t have a breaker bar so I used a wheel lug t bar and used the 3/4 side to just loosen it then came back with 19mm ratchet and loosen and tightened it all up and torqued to spec , It’s really simple I watched the curt video install on you tube once and understood it . Im glad I chose the Curt because it was so simple to install great product I recommend buying from etrailer vs eleswhere online...my receiver hitch was delivered well packed with no problems I’ve heard complaints from other websites that delivery was received damaged or bent so the bold won’t line up . Do yourself a solid and go to etrailer you won’t regret it. 666829

I could not have received a better product or customer support! Not only did Mark suggest a better product than the one I had selected from the (excellent) on-line product listings, but my request to expedite shipping resulted in the trailer hitch arriving a day earlier than promised. The installation instructions were very detailed (included color photos, parts list, torque wrench values, etc.) and the on-line movie was equally excellent. It took me abit longer than I expected (~ 1 hour) to install, but this was my fault for not having all of the right tools laid out and available. The final installed hitch (from Curt) fits like a glove and really looks like OEM. Frankly, the newer design (for my 2014 vehicle) appears to be even stronger ("beefier:) than the hitch (another Curt) which I bought for my same model but earlier 2006 vehicle. Congratulations eTrailer, I will definitely be back for my future trailer hitch requirements. 208720

Since youve had two of these hitches, did you experience much rust or corrosion on the Curt you installed on the 2006 vehicle?

2013 Toyota Prius v

I'm going to use this for a bike rack. I ordered this hitch because of the videos that etrailer makes, it gave me the confidence that I could install it myself on my 2013 Prius V. It ended up taking me about 90 minutes total but it could have been about 30 minutes... the major challenge I encountered was that the through holes in the mounting plate didn't quite line up with the threaded holes on the vehicle. maybe the plates were bent during shipping. The holes were about 5mm too close together. Once I figured that out, I used a concrete step with a overhang on my back porch to help me bend the flat plates just a bit. Then it fit perfectly and went on in just a couple of minutes. Really easy to do. A tool that I am glad I had was a wrench with a flex head that let me get in between the muffler on the passenger side. I think you can probably remove more of the rubber isolator that holds the muffler on if you need to but with the flex head there was less disassembly needed. I just did this in my driveway didn't need to lift the vehicle, there was enough room under the Prius for me to get in there without much trouble (I'm 6'3"). The hitch receiver looks very solid and is recessed nicely from the back, no danger of banged shins. So far so good I would say! 893168

Tough install. Tools you need for install that they aren't in instructions... -3/8" ratchet wrench (17mm and 19mm socket) because a 1/2" wrench is too large for accessible area above muffler. - Hacksaw to cut away plastic undercarriage panel around tow hitch, otherwise it is impossible to access bolts, but be careful because there is some electrical cable near that area (see photos). You could use a Sawzall, but be careful, it's soft plastic so easy to cut manually. As a general note, YOU MUST remove the muffler hanger first... This is not done in order in the video, not sure how he got access to the 2nd bolt above muffler. You slide out the lower silver mushroom "bolt" that is welded to the muffler. Use dw40 and wedge the flathead in there to pry it out. This is the only way I was able to access the bolt above the muffler. Once you remove the muffler from hanger and cut away some plastic covering around tow hitch, install is much easier. I used 5" extender. And had an extra pair of hands to help. Took 2 hours. PS, I love eTrailer for their prices and install and compatibility library. I just think they need a better video on this one. 880451

This hitch appears to be a much higher quality hitch/receiver than the U Haul one I bought for my minivan several years ago. My husband and I got this hitch receiver for my 2010 prius because we wanted to be able to carry our mountain bikes more efficiently. The hitch came in within 3 days of us ordering it, and correspondence with etrailer was very clear and helpful so we knew what to expect. The hitch receiver is attached and has already carried our bikes for a ride. My husband installed it in less than an hour and we are very pleased. 853569

The hitch is great. Super strong and it has never loosened or worried me driving with a loaded bike rack on many miles of dirt and gravel roads. Highly recommend upgrading to a hitch if you were previously using a clip-on roof rack like me to carry bikes, which can be shaken loose on rough roads or high winds. Installation was straight forward after you find the right bolts to take out. 844983

I have the Draw Tite hitch on my Prius and this Curt hitch on my wife's Prius. This (Curt) hitch is much more useful because it can be used with all 1-1/4" bike racks. I bought this to hook up a bike rack to my Prius. A bit tricky to install: learn from me and make sure to recruit a helper or two and/or about a foot's worth of blocks to hold up one end of the hitch while you attach the other. As it was, I got 'er done, but in the awkward position of being on my back and attaching one end while holding up the other with my feet. Performance-wise, I not only used this to haul bikes around the state but cross-country, too. Performed like a champ. 815762

You can use Curt Class I hitch part # C11276 to tow a light weight motor cycle trailer. I did take a look at your owner's manual and Toyota does not recommend towing anything with the Prius but it is ultimately up to you.
