Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Honda Accord - Curt

Today on our 2010 Honda Accord we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Curt Custom Fit Class 1 Trailer Hitch Receiver with the inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter opening, its part number is C11085. All right, here's what the hitch looks like installed. As you can see we've got our round tube that's going to come across, here in the middle is the receiver tube opening, this gives us the inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter opening. We've got a reinforcement collar around the end there, it's nice and flush. This is going to be end set on our bumper, or behind our bumper, so we won't have to worry about bumping into it. Got our plate style safety chain connection points here on the bottom.

As you can see they've got a oval shaped opening, it should be no problem getting safety chains or stability straps connected there. Securing your items you'll be using the half inch pinhole. Now this is going to work great for whatever Class 1 accessory you'll choose. It looks like there's a pretty narrow gap between the bottom of that hole and this plate, so if you're using tumbler style locks or things like that, you will definitely want to stay with smaller diameter things. When it comes to towing, the hitch is going to offer a two hundred pound ton weight rating. It's the maximum downward force we can put here to our receiver tube opening.

We're going to have gross trailer weight rating of two thousand pounds. That's the total weight of our trailer and anything that we load off on it. We definitely also want to check the owner's manual in the Accord, see what its tow rating is, and we're going to go off of whichever of those numbers are the lowest. Now a few measurements that are going to be helpful in selecting your bike racks or cargo carriers, will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, we've got about eleven and a quarter inches. Then from the center of our hitch band hold to the outer most edges of our bumper, it's about three and a quarter. To begin our installation we need to lower down our exhaust, we've got an exhaust hanger here that we're going to pull off, and then just ahead of it, if we followed the pipe up, there's going to be another one here.

Now we're going to support this with a strap along the underside just so when we do take those hangers down it doesn't just fall down, we can control it with that. A little bit of lubricant's a good idea, to spray it on the hangers, that's going to help them slide off a little bit easier. A lot of times if we just pull from the back it'll pop off. Then we do the one up front. Now just on the backside of the canister there's going to be kind of a double style here, more of a triangle, we want to get that one separated as well. This one's a little bit harder to get to, you may want to use a pry bar and just try prying from the backside of it.

Then we'll put a little slack in our strap here, and that should give us plenty of room to get in there and work. Now it's time to remove the bolts that are holding our heat shield in, there's four of those. We've got one, two, we've got three, and four here. For those we'll use a ten millimeter socket. Now we'll set that aside and save our bolts because we will be putting it back up later. Now to access our hole location we need to make sure that our bolt, and also our spacer block will pass through. You can see our bolt fits fine, but it's a little tight for the spacer block, so just going to trim off the edge here to allow that to pass. Use a die grinder or a rotary tool, a hacksaw, whatever you've got. All right, now we'll go do the same thing for our passenger side. Now we'll feed our pull wire through our mounting location there. Bring it out of our access hole, then we need to feed on the spacer block. Also thread on our carriage bolt, then we'll feed these into the frame separately, seems to be the best method. Hold onto the rear and this comes down like that. We'll go take care of the other side in the same way. Now our U-bolt here in the middle, this is going to go around that recovery hook, that's a little loop on the back. You may have to tap it on with a hammer. That little undercoating on there is kind of get it a little tight so we can just wiggle it to loosen it up. Now we can guide our hitch up into position, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands just to kind of help guide it. We want our U-bolt to come through the center portion. We want our carriage bolts to come through our outside flange here, then we want to pull our fish wires off and thread on one of our flange nuts. That'll hold this side up, while we get our other side taken care off. All right, now with both of those started, we'll come to the middle where we'll use our smaller flange nuts, and put those on our U-bolt. All right, now we'll go through and snug down our hardware. Now we need to check our instructions, find our torque specifications and get our hardware torqued down appropriately. All right, now for trimming up our heat shield, we want to measure over from this outside edge about four and three quarters of an inch. We'll put this right there. We want to measure up from the end about ten inches, and we're going to be getting rid of this outside section. This ten snip aviation shears should work fine. All right, now let's check and we'll make sure that that clears our hitch, and if not, we can trim out a little more. Yeah, looks like it's all going to be good. Heading to those exhaust hangers with a little more spray lube and we'll be ready to get our exhaust put back into position. Then we'll pull down our strap here and our hitch is going to be ready for use. With our exhaust back in place, that's going to complete our installation of the Curt Custom Fit Class 1 Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C11085 on our 2010 Honda Accord.

Excellent hitch and instructions. Fairly easy to install on my 2012 Honda Accord. Selected this hitch because it keeps the factory plastic trunk cover while the Draw-tite hitch discards this cover. Instructions were perfect, including dimensions for cut outs in the plastic trunk cover and aluminum heat shield. Found a good method for installing the hitch and plastic cover alone. Used a 1" wide canoe tie-down strap threaded through the car towing hook and corresponding slots in the hitch. Lifted both parts and tightened the strap, holding the hitch and cover in the raised position. Next installed the left and right bolts, easy with the weight carried by the strap. Finally removed the strap and installed the U bolt. 427332

Just mounted it, but haven't towed anything yet. I don't understand why the hardware is just a hair wider than the factory hole on my Accord, I have to use a filer to remove a little bit of material from the frame to put it on. Other than that, this product is great. Feel solid and easy to install. 508342

I installed this myself on the back of my 2009 Honda Accord Coupe. I would say this it is somewhat difficult to install, due to having to slightly widen holes to fit the bolt holds through. Though, despite the slight difficulty, it only took me about 45-60 min to complete. I used this to tow a 5x8 trailer loaded to its full capacity 1800 miles from Indiana to Florida and it has definitely met my expectations. It remained completely rigid throughout the journey despite having been put under a lot of stress, between steep hilly highways and pothole torn streets. I also purchased a 2” Rise: And the corresponding wiring harness: Though I would instead recommend a 2-½” - 3” rise, especially if you have a heavily loaded trailer as I did, as the 2” rise was a little low. I would recommend this to anybody looking to tow anything with their Honda Accord due to its rigid construction and sleek design. 524468

Love this hitch! Took me about 45 mins to install. The installation was straightforward and probably took me more time prepping than installing. Get an extra set of hands for a little help, easily doable alone as well. 739133

Great website. Great price. Great instructional video that anyone can follow. Great shipping time and packaging. Great components. This can be done on the ground with no lift. It isn’t as easy as a lift, but it can be done with the Accord’s clearance. It can also be done with one person, but I would not recommend it. From a difficulty standpoint , enlarging the entrance hole for the rectangular bracket that secures the carriage bolt might prove to be difficult for some without proper tools. It only needs to be filed just a little for it to go through securely, so you should have something in your toolbox or shed to accomplish this. So far, I’m very happy with everything and hides well until I’m ready to utilize it. Thanks ! 551389

The hitch seems to be well built. Great service from etrailer with order status updates etc. It's easy to install, but you'd need someone to help holding the hitch while you're bolting it on. A couple of suggestions to simplify installation. First, the inserts don't go through the holes in the frame, and per the instruction you need to widen the holes. What I did and which is way easier, is to grind down the tapered edges of the inserts themselves. Takes seconds. The second suggestion is to pass the wires through the small hole, not the other way around as the instruction dictates. Again, it's easier to grab them through the larger hole. But these are minor details. Overall, I'm happy with the product. 455094

Worked great on single exhaust accord 2008. There are 3 locations around the exhaust where the hangers need to be released on the single exhaust record which etrailer does not have video on. 442936

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2010 Honda Accord Sedan
Both hitches are a confirmed fit for your Accord. The only difference between the two hitches you mentioned, the # C11085 and the # C11496 is that the # C11085 fits against the underside of the vehicle more cleanly. It wraps around the spare tire well, rather than passing under it like the # C11496 does. This also allows the receiver tube to sit closer to the underside of the bumper. This would give you a very slight advantage in ground clearance. Also, the # C11085 is a few dollars less...

No 2-inch hitches are made for your car because its frame is not strong enough for the weight ratings of a 2-inch Class III hitch. As you noted, there are adapters like the Brophy # HTAD and # HT5R that fit your 1-1/4-inch hitch and provide a 2-inch receiver opening for the 2-inch accessory. These are both about 7-inches long, a good bit shorter...
