Very fast delivery. Nice and easy to use website. I like the fact that I had four options to choose from. Got the Curt hitch and it bolted up with no problems at all. I am very happy with this purchase. 690175

This hitch receiver took about an hour to install and was easy to do by myself. One thing of note, two of the bolts are torqued to 150 ft lbs and the other four are torqued to 110 ft lbs. So make sure you have the ability to do that before you start. I did lower the spare tire to make room for my torque wrench to swing. Finally, I also recommend spraying some cable lube inside the spare tire cable assembly while the tire is down, to keep it freed up. 598876

Installed in approx 1 Hr.Two people , 1 to hold hitch up on one other side would cut approx 15 mins off ,but I am happy with the hitch . used it about 4 days latter worked great for pulling the trailer , backing and hitching too. Well satisfied as with all things I have ordered from etrailer , Highly Recommend 445174

Shipped to the house (free) arrived within 4 days. Slipped onto my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport XLT like a glove. No interference with the 16inch spare tire tucked under the back bumper which already had a 2" ball attached to it with an existing trailer plug and associated wires . Took less than 45 min to install including setting up the 4 tools I use thru clean up. Installed in my home garage. Hitch appears to be well made. Good looking welds. Hole alignment was spot on. Did the install using one hand to hold the hitch while the other hand installed the hardware. Beautiful engineering. I honestly cannot remember the last time a little automobile job like this went so smooth. 637380

AS has always been the case, this hitch fit my 25 year old Explorer Sport like a glove. Came with all the hardware and clear instructions.. We will use the hitch to tow a small trailer and to mount our bike rack. It is a big deal that I didn't have to remove the under mount full size spare tire. 868020

Had it installed by my mechanics, along with the front receiver I purchased at the same time. Both installed in under an hour. Only problem was they had to uninstall my skid plate, but we’ll look at that later as they said it would just take a couple mods to reinstall. Plan on using the receiver for winch mounting and small trailer pulling, as well as adding a bike rack and rear cargo carrier. Very impressed with the quality and FAST shipping! 762124

Fit up was straight forward, even though hitch was too heavy to manage with one person brute strength. Ended up dropping spare tire and resting one end of hitch on it while I got a few bolts loosely installed on other end and then loosely bolted up first end. Had to run to hardware store to get correct size wrenches. Would be helpful to know wrench sizes in advance. Otherwise great, looks really good. 756764

Looks good, technically easy to install, but really need a second person to assist. The two side frame bolts should be longer. I had to remove the lock washer to thread the nut on. I’ll have to go to local hardware store to buy longer grade 8 bolts to replace for secure installation. 491396

Excellent hitch systems for hard to find hook up for older Ford Explorer. I am very satisfied with this hitch system. Be aware the wiring harness will have to be secured up out of the swing path of the ball which can be done by installin a screen door spring to keep the harness out of the way 357871

Didn't fit exactly when I first tried to install this, but then realized it got tweaked in shipping just a little (not noticeable, about 1/4 inch). Had to put it into a vice and make an adjustment, then it slide right into place and all the bolt holes lined up perfectly. If you want to keep the full size spare tire, this is the hitch to get. 347694

  • Available 2-Inch Class III Trailer Hitches for 1998 Ford Explorer 2-Door
We offer several brands of 2-inch Class III hitches for your 1998 Ford Explorer 2-Door and these are offered with several different tongue weight and gross trailer weight ratings. The link at right will let you see all Class III hitches for your Explorer, including the Curt # 13540. None of these require drilling for installation and many still allow for re-installation of a full-size spare tire after the hitch is in place. Of all hitches offered I suggest the Curt # C13106 since...

  • Trailer Hitch for Carrying 350lb Dirt Bike in Hitch Mounted Carrier on 1999 Ford Explorer
The Curt Class III hitch you referenced, part # 13540 will indeed allow you to retain the full-sized spare in place under the rear of the vehicle. If the 350 lb figure you mentioned is just the weight of the bike, not including the carrier you'll be overloading the hitch. In that case, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III, part # 75096 which has a 500 TW capacity and would also allow the spare tire to remain in place. Even if that 350 lb figure included the weight of the carrier, I'd...
