Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Jeep Wrangler - Curt

Today on our 2005 Jeep Wrangler, we're going to install Part # 13408 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like when it's installed on the Jeep. Next, we'll go ahead and use some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball knot, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the spare tire, we're looking at a measurement of 7.25 inches. On the top of the receiver opening down to the ground, you're looking at a measurement of 15 inches. Now, we'll go ahead and show you how to hitch is installed.

At first step is to go ahead and remove the toe hook here, remove these two bolts. After you remove the toe hook, make sure you take out the handle nut that's inside as well. Now, we move over to the passenger side and remove the bolt right here. Now the bolt removed on the driver side is where our hitch will mount up. On our passenger side, we'll use the bolt tool here in opening the frame.

Now we can go ahead and start and install the hardware inside the frame. We'll install the carriage bolt and the block. Take the carriage bolt, run it to the block and then start into the bolt leader that comes with the kit. Push it all up into the frame and then back through. Let's go back over and shoot that passenger side same thing again.

Now, we can go ahead and loose the attached hitch to the hardware we just installed and we'll fasten the half inch locking us on the bottom side. The kit comes with a standard tread and metric tread. Now take the original bolt and see which one measures with the tread's best and that will be replaced bolt. In this case, we will be using the metric bolt. Then install the inaudible washer and bolt them into the factory hardware in the frame.

With all the hardware loosely installed, then we can go ahead and tighten on the bolt then torque them down as specified in the instructions. And with that, that will finish it for our install Part # 13408 from Curt on our 2005 Jeep Wrangler.

2000 Jeep Wrangler

Vehicle: 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport This is a two part review. The first is etrailer and their service. This was my first experience with them and I am IMPRESSED. I placed the order Tuesday night at 8:30 and it was delivered at 12:30 Thursday afternoon. Their communication is excellent. Their website is fantastic for tracking the shipment. I found myself checking it more often than I should have just to watch the progress on the map. Part two: the receiver. Everything was right, nothing was damaged, everything fit, everything worked the first time. The packaging was good. The Curt receiver is solid with good welds and good paint. The holes lined up. The instructions were good enough. Oh yeah my only complaint is the carriage bolt heads were a little to big to fit through the hole in the frame. I had to cut maybe 1/8" off one side. Other than that you need to have a little patience in fishing the wire down through the frame. The first one took me at least 20-30 minutes and some serious words. The second one went though the first try and took 2 minutes. This receiver is bigger than is needed for my Jeep but it keeps the hitch the same size as our truck and as long as I don't try to pull 4000LBS with it, oversize won't hurt. It was only $20 more for the 2". All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and with etrailer. 52440

Great quality and easy to install as per instructions. Thanks for a good product and helpful videos. The wiring harness was even easier to install (except for accumulation of dirt in my face from the covers.) use of safety goggles might be a good tip. My bumper is hollow on the back. Actually a piece of U channel, so after glueing a magnet to the plug I can hide all wiring out of sight behind it. 549317

Installed on a 2004 jeep wrangler. Installation was really easy and fast. Etrailer videos made installation a breeze. Installed by myself, only hard part was lifting hitch in place and catching the bolt, but I was able to lift one side into place and balance the other side on my knee. After that just install the rest of the bolts and make sure you have a 1/2 torque wrench that can tighten to 110 ft lbs. I highly recommend this hitch! 241861

Snap to install on my Wrangler. From start to finish it took less than 20 minutes. I may have gotten it done sooner and easier if I had some help but it still went in easy peasy as a solo project. Included before and after pics 554908

I found the install videos at etrailer especially helpful in terms of selecting the right hitch, tow connector, and wiring options. The order was promptly handled and etrailer packaging was well above average. Moreover, the package was delivered very fast and one day ahead of schedule, and in excellent shape. I have not installed the equipment yet but looking everything over, I anticipate no problems and am very pleased that I went with etrailer, i.e., pricing and customer service including email communications have been well above average. 732862

What you will want to add is a transmission cooler since you will be towing in the mountains.
