Video Transcript for Curt Trailer Hitch - Custom Fit Hitch - 13333 Review

Today we are going to review Part Number 13333. This is the Curt Class 3, 2 Inch Trailer Receiver. This is a custom fit hitch designed specifically to fit your vehicle. It will fit the Dodge Ram 1500, the 2500 HD, and 3500 HD trucks without the factory hitch starting in 2003. Now what I would recommend on any custom fit part is to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it will show you if this will work for your application. Now when this is built, they use precision robotic welding to help maximize the strength of this hitch and it improves the fit of it. It is a bolt on installation.

There is no welding required. It comes with the complete hardware kit shown here and a set of installation instructions also. Basically includes the two carriage bolts, the two hex flange nuts, the two spacers, the two fish wires, this one large flat head socket cap screw and the detailed instructions. Now on the hitch itself, you can see has a nice gloss black powder coat finish over a protective base coat. This will offer superior rust resistant. This does require a ball mount and a pin and clip to hold into place.

Those two items would be sold separately. We sell them separately on our website and they are usually on this product page as related products. This part is made in the USA. Now a few specs on this. The receiver opening is 2 inches by 2 inches. The rating again on this again is a Class 3, so that would mean the maximum gross trailer weight capacity on this is 6000 lbs, maximum tongue weight capacity is 600 lbs.

Now if you do use this with weight distribution, it would increase those numbers to maximum gross trailer weight capacity to 10,000 lbs and the maximum tongue weight capacity to 1000 lbs. Basically, when you go to install this and if you will notice, it also has the safety chain holes to hook your safety chains to. Then you will see the threaded hole right in the top here. When you go to install this basically you will use the fish wire and again, these instructions will show you all this. You run your two carriage bolts with the spacers through your bumper support tube in the back and they will come through here and they will allow you to bolt this hitch on to your bumper support tube and you will put the flange nuts and tighten it down to correct torque specs. Then what you will also do is there is a bracket that is on the top of the bumper support tube that will go up underneath the bumper and you access the hole right here on this hitch by removing the cover that is on the hole in the bumper where the trailer ball hole goes.

Then you will just take this large bolt, tighten this down to the bracket also on the bumper support tube. Then with all that done, you will be all ready to go. That should do it for the review on Part Number 13333, the Curt Class 3, 2 Inch Trailer Receiver.

Pros: Very easy install. Cons: Had to buy the hex driver bit to install the big brass bolt. Torque specs are stupid high, and PLASTIC BOLT COVER WILL NOT FIT BACK ON!! Had to order the domed plastic cover that's shown on the Drawtite version. Gonna rig something up. 732976

After reading up on your hitch and it's installation, I was convinced I could do this myself ~ except for not being able to tighten things adequately. [I'm all of 71 yrs young.] Owner of the truck, hubs, Papa Gene at 86 yrs young, has no business groveling on the hard ground on his bad back to do the job ! As he figured [incorrectly] that the spare would have to come off from the undercarriage, he elected to have a more able, [disabled] neighbor do the job. As your instructions indicated, the job took all of 30 minutes, and no, the spare stayed in place. Hubs is ready now, to haul cedar logs to be milled for return so that he may build more furniture! 360519

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

I installed the hitch within minutes. Very easy to mount to my Dodge Ram 1500. Only thing was I had to buy a large star tool to tighten the bolt on top. I used it this past weekend pulling my 24 ft travel trailer and it gave me no problems. 440890

I bought this because it was cheaper then getting it at the dealer. Install was easy and quick. Had to make a few trips the hardware store because I didn't have an Allen socket big enough. I've towed with it several times and it works great. I would highly recommend this for anyone that needs a hitch. 592878

2017 Dodge Ram Pickup

I found a 2017 RAM pickup with 11K miles and equiped perfectly except no hitch. I purchased the truck and looked for a hitch. etrailer made it simple to find a good choice at a good price with video instructions for the installation. I installed in minutes and have been completely satisfied. 583175

Wow. These folks make sure their communication is there. They emailed me when the product was shipped and when I received it. It was the Curt Class III 2" Trailer Hitch. It was so simple to install, I couldn't believe it. It took 20 minuets to install. It would have only took 15 minuets if I had went exactly by the instructions. But I was skeptical about the fish wire & used 1 round of electrical tape around the fish wire holding the bolt in place. It took an extra 5 minuets to remove the tape I put on for the fish designed for this job to work. I didn't think this flimzy wire would do it. Boy was I wrong. So on the other side I went exactly by the instructions and did not add the tape. It went in & in place like the instructions said. So easy. My advise is to go exactly by the instructions! If it doesn't tell you to add to don't! These folks know exactly how it should go. So if you go exactly by the instructions, you will walk away in 15 with hitch installed! I will recommend this hitch to everyone I know that needs one. 340994

2016 Dodge Ram Pickup

After one year the hitch has been working flawlessly on my 2016 1500 Ram. I have used it to tow everything from open trailers containing riding mowers to a horse trailer (containing goats, but still heavy as heck). I admit I had some concerns at first, since the hitch didn't come with the truck and I was the one who installed it, but those went away after my first tow. Since I installed it the hitch has never moved even a hair, it is totally rock solid, it looks like it came with the truck, honestly it's just everything I could have wished for, and actually much cheaper than I would have guessed for something this heavy and made this well. The only advice I would give is to buy some fishing tape to help with the install. The provided install wire is ingenious and well built, but it was exactly the length required and nothing more. I'm not a mechanic, and I'm not used to installations, so I used some fishing tape I already had to increase its length, as I was worried about losing grip on the provided install wire. I probably wouldn't have needed to worry, but the extra fishing tape made the install really easy. Overall a great product, and at the price, just a great value. I love etrailer.com, I have had nothing but good experiences here. 628485

2013 Dodge Ram Pickup

Awesome. . Perfect fit for my 2013 Ram..Easy to install , especially with all the hardware that's included. I had read previous reviews and noticed a 1/2 inch hex key was needed so I purchased that before the hitch arrived that way I was ready to install. From the time I opened box , dropped spare tire, install and tighten the hitch to jacking back up the spare and being tow ready in 30 min. Thanks etrailer for a great product at a great price.. I am a satisfied customer. 119745

Went on without a "hitch"! But seriously, the hitch went on without a problem. The first one I ordered was welded completely crooked. I was p*ssed! I took pictures and sent them off to customer service. There is no doubt about etrailer's Customer Service Team. They are second to none. My replacement hitch was on its way to me before I even had the crooked one in the mail. The hitch, bolts, nuts and those wires that allow you to pull the bolts and retainer plates through the frame, all quality parts and easily went on. They have instructions and a great video of how to install it on my 2015 Ram 1500. Thank You etrailer for a smooth and pleasant transaction. 306495

Ive used it quite a few times. I towed one of my cars to have a new transmission installed, a rented mini excavator twice during the 2017 summer. It is definitely doing its job pulling its weight.

This hitch has been great. In the past year, I have moved out of an apartment and into a house. I have used this hitch constantly to pull trailers full of furniture, snowmobiles, pop up campers, lawn equipment... you name it! The hitch is still sturdy and gives me piece of mind while pulling a trailer.
