This is a great price for the product. That said, I had to drill out the U-bolt mounting bracket as the holes were not aligned correctly, but a 1/2 inch drill bit will offset the difference and allow for mounting to the tow point. The fish wire idea utilizing existing unibody frame holes is a great idea, but it would be nice to have 2 fish wires in the kit. By the 4th hole, the fish wire doesn't like to come off the bolt and causes a small clearance issue, solvable with some vice grips. All said, minor modification and it's a pretty straightforward kit.

Hardware (carriage bolts and spacer) was too large to fit in frame access hole. I emailed etrailer about the hardware not fitting and they sent me a link to the install video. They were not helpful in resolving the issue. I ended up going having to manually file the access hole in order to make the hardware fit. The install was extremely frustrating due to the tight access.

Comments
The 2001 CR-V in the installation video had a large enough access hole that it did not need to be enlarged for the spacer block. Unfortunately, your CR-V seems to have a smaller access hole. In the instructions, Step 2 indicates that if the hole in the frame is too small, it will need to be enlarged to 1-1/4 inch diameter. I have linked the instructions for your convenience.

Wonderful product. Got it fast and very easy to install. Quality and finish are great. Makes hauling our Grumman canoe a lot easier.

Really nice quality and was easy to install. My only problem was the wire pulling bolts through frame only lasted for 3 of the 4 bolts then had to modify or improvise wire to pull last of the four bolts through frame. Would have been nice to have two threaded pull wires one for each side of hitch. Too much stress for one wire to pull 4bolts through frame. Great hitch though

Hitch quality is excellent. Be gentle with bolt installation tool. It expands after each bolt installation and becomes more difficult to get the next bolt through. I files the square notch in the bolt holders to accommodate.

Excellent communication. Hitch arrived on estimated shipping date. Fits existing frame holes but had to enlarge access holes (1 inch). Only dropped 2 muffler hangers, make sure the interior hanger is on the interior side of the hitch mounting plate before securing hitch to frame. Pleased with the strength and appearance.

The product is very good for the price. Install easily. the installation kit was very helpful especially the wire that would attach to the bolt. There's one issue, the width was an inch short. I had to force swing the front hole to line up with the chassis hole, the back hole, I had to rim the chassis hole to line up with the hitch hole. Unfortunately, when I was rimming the hole, the wire was hanging in the hole and broke off, leaving the bolt and the washer inside the chassis. I wonder if it's possible to send me another bolt, washer and the wire that attaches to the bolt cause I can't get the bolt and the washer plate out. bolt.

Installed hitch on left side of crv when I tried to install on right side I was unable to raise hitch high enough to engage bolts do to the fact that the tang that attaches to the draw hook was to high took hitch off of crv and bent tang down enough to give me clearance re-installed hitch on left side and then installed on right side everything went according to drawing. Maybe if the bolts supplied were a half inch longer I might have been able to install and draw hitch up to where it was supposed to go. Whole job took an hour and a half but when finished looks grate.

Haven't towed anything yet but part 13314 installed very solid on my 2001 Honda cr-v. 4/5 stars because the bolts and the silver rectangle things don't fit through the middle hole. Which required me to grind of a slit in the hole and bend it out with crowbar to get these parts to fit through there. I used a grinder because I lacked other tools. Just be prepared to drill on your cr-v with this kit. (Not a suggestion to void warranty but it's so it can be bolted on in the first place). 1 of my pictures shows that slit I made. Thanks. And thank you etrailer.

The hitch fit perfect on my 2001 honda CR-V, however the holes to feed bolts through were way too small. Instructions say you may need to drill out the whole to 1 1/4". Who has a drill bit that big. I cut 2 slots in the metal at one end of the whole and bent down the metal and then bent it back up after I fished the bolts through. Because i'm stupid, I put the bolts in the weong holes as there are 2 different sizes. I said bad words when i realized I had to remove all 4 bolts and put them in the right holes. My bad! Overall it still only took me about an hour.

Great product. I was able to tow 5 car with my SUV when I had this hitch. Unfortunately my SUV was stolen with the hitch attached and I lost the 5 other cars that I towed. Without this Hitch to move them, my cars became a job for a tow company that scrapped my classic cvcc hondas for $45 each baby. Bitter sweet sorrow.

It fits great under my first gen. 2000 CR-V. I love the fact it has a 2” receiver. Fits all my bike racks, cargo racks, and Kayak/Mtn bike/ camping trailer. I purchased one for my daughters Jeep Patriot and now also for her (new) 2013 Hyundai Tucson. Great hitches that work great for our outdoor lifestyles..!!!

I watched the video of the hitch installation before doing my install. I had thought removing the exhaust hangers might be difficult ... it wasn't. I installed without assistance BUT I had a jack to hold hitch in place while getting bolts lined up. If you don't have this tool, it will be a two person job. Customer service from eTrailer was excellent! ( BTW I am a repeat customer )

1999 Honda CR-V

I bought the class 3 hitch and wiring harness for my 99 crv. I had watched the installation video before receiving the parts and it seemed pretty straightforward. When it arrived, I installed it during my lunch in 35 minutes and the fit and finish looks factory! The next day during lunch installed the wiring harness in about 20 minutes. It uses the factory connector and tucks away invisible untill you need it. I am THRILLED with the product and looking forward to using it. The car is rated for a 1000 lbs towing and the hitch is overkill, but I already had the 2" insert and ball and the price is the same as a lighter duty hitch. To me it seems the best deal on the market.

It was a piece of cake to install ok, Im a mechanic and it is probably stronger than the car I installed it on. The trailer hitch for our 2001 Honda CRV went on so easily, with the help of the "how-to" video, that we purchased another for our 2004 Honda CRV and installation was just as quick and easy. We use it for bike racks and hauling a small trailer and they both work great!

This hitch was for my son's old 1999 Honda CRV. Crawling under and working on a 17 year old car that lives in the winter salt is never fun, and fishing the bolts and backing plates into place can also be something of a challenge. I strongly encourage you to measure the spacing of the bolt holes on the hitch so you can make sure that you install the hardware correctly. Don't ask me how I know. I guess having to drop the rear part of the exhaust system is pretty standard when installing a trailer hitch, and this is no exception. Also, the instructions could be a bit more detailed. When all was said and done, however, the hitch fits perfectly and I could not ask for anything more, especially at the e-trailer price.

I've had this hitch for a year now and it has been great. Installation was easy and straight forward and the quality is great. I use it for a small lawn mower trailer and with the 2in. square I can just swap the reciever between my truck and my CRV. I highly recommend the 2in. over the smaller reciever hitches.

I have no issue with the product or shipping time, rather the instructions that came with it. There was no specification as to bolt place ment, and after fishing them through the frame in the wrong spots, I realized two of them could not be threaded in that position. Fishing them back out the other way is a lot easier said than done. Ended up bending the fishing wire trying to get them out... save yourself some time and check the size of the bolts before installing them. Two are a half inch longer, and very easy to overlook... I have now had to request a new fishing wire from etrailer, which has been very easy and helpful to deal with in this situation, but it has turned what should have been a 30min or less project, into a couple of hour min plus a weeks wait in shipping. I also don't see the reason that all the bolts couldn't be the same size, could have saved a lot of time and hassle. The extra half inch would not have been in the way... it at least should be mentioned in the instructions...

Comments
Jared, thank you for pointing this out to us - we are currently working on having the instructions clarified. With the kit, there are two different length bolts. For the 2 rear-most attaching points which are closest to the bumper, you should be using the square hole spacer along with the 1-3/4-inch carriage bolt. However, for the 2 forward attaching points which are the furthest away from the bumper, you should be using the square hole spacer along with the 1-1/4-inch carriage bolt.

  • Does Using a Hitch Adapter Change the Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity
Using a hitch adapter like the one shown in the photo you provided will lower the tongue weight of your existing hitch by 50 percent. The Class I hitch on your 2009 Accord would normally have a tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of downforce that can be applied to the hitch without causing damage) of 200 lbs. Because using the adapter moves the load further away from the hitch, more leverage will be applied to the hitch, so using the adapter lowers the tongue weight capacity to 100...

  • Will a Bike Rack Clear the Spare Tire with Curt Trailer Hitch 13314 Installed on a 2001 Honda CR-V
When we installed Curt trailer hitch # 13314 we found that it measured 6-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire. This is important because you will need to measure the bike rack in the same manner. Please take a look at the FAQ article I have linked that shows how to take this measurement. Measure on the bike rack from the center of its hitch pin hole to the back of the upright mast on the bike rack. If that distance...

  • Will etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2013 Honda CR-V Fit a 2000 Honda CR-V?
The etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # E98868 is only compatible with 2012-2016 Honda CR-V models. I don't recommend making any changes to the hitch or installation as that could greatly impact its safety and rated capacities. I recommend instead getting the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13314 which is a custom fit the 2000 CR-V.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver, Wiring, And Ball Mount For 1998 Honda CR-V
For your 1998 Honda CR-V, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13314. This is a far stronger hitch that will give you some options for many accessories as well as ball mounts. I never recommend a Class I hitch receiver if other options are available as it is extremely limiting in every way. For your trailer wiring, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118336. This harness connects to factory...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2000 Honda CR-V with Capacity to Handle 4-Bike Hitch-Mount Bike Rack
Your 2000 Honda CR-V can be fitted with either of two sizes/classes of hitch, a 1-1/4-inch light-duty Class I type like the Draw-Tite # 24790 you referenced or a higher-capacity 2-inch Class III type such as # 13314 from Curt. In order to use a 4-bike hitch rack you must have a Class III hitch installed on your CR-V. A hitch install video and helpful article are also provided. You will also need to use a stabilizing strap # 18050 along with the Curt hitch to help support the rack load;...

  • Will the Draw-Tite # 24790 Work with a Thule Helium Bike Rack on a 2000 Honda CR-V
The Draw-Tite Class I Receiver Hitch, item # 24790, would be a good choice for your 2000 Honda CR-V. You will be able to use the Thule Helium Aero Aluminum 3 Bike Carrier, item # TH9043PRO, on the CR-V as long as the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the farthest out part of the spare tire is less than 14-3/8 inches. If the measurement on the CR-V is going to be longer than that the Helium rack would not fit properly. There are other options if the Helium rack will...
