Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Chrysler Pacifica - Hidden Hitch

Today on our 2008 Chrysler Pacifica we'll be installing hidden hitch, part number87432. This is what ourhitch will look like once installed. Next we'll go ahead andgive you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of thebumper is three and one quarter inches, from the top of the receiving tube to the ground is eleven and a half inches. This will assist your selecting accessories, such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. Now we'll go ahead with installation. We'll go ahead and point out the attachment points.

We'll have a total of four attachment points on each side, two in the bottom of the frame and two in the side of the frame. Three of these attachment points are either pre-drilled or cut-out holes in the frame by the manufacturer. The fourth attachment point for each side will be the welled nut that we will remove one of the manufacturer's bolt from.Note: first we've gone ahead lowered and removed the spare tire for the ease of installation. Next we'll begin by lowering the exhaust. We'll put a safety strap underneath to help support the weight.

To lower the exhaust we'll remove the two rubber isolators from the back of themuffler that's secured to the metal hangers. To remove the rubber isolator from the metal hanger, we'll spray each one with some spray lubricant and just use our pry bar to pry the rubber isolator off the metal hanger. Now that we've removed the rubber isolator from the metal hanger, we can use the safety strap to safely lower the weight of the exhaust out of the way to gain access to frame rail here on the passenger side. Let's go ahead and remove the bolt now. We'll set that bolt aside as it will not be reused. We'll use the new hardware provided with our install kit.

Next we'll go ahead and install the half inch carriage bolt and block. This will be the forward attachment point in the bottom of the frame. Taking our pole wire, going through the attachment point and out the access hole, we'll then slide on the block and thread on a carriage bolt. We'll feed the block and bolt into the frame and then pull them into position. Once in place, we'll go ahead and remove the half inch bolt leader. Now we're ready to go ahead and prepare our hitch for installation. Getting sandwiched between the hitch and the frame at the half inch carriage bolt will be a half inch flat washer.

To make it easier to install the hitch and the flat washer, we'll go ahead and tape the flatwasher directly to the hitch. Now with that done, we're ready to go ahead and put our hitch in place. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your fasteners. As we put the hitch up into position, we'llinstall the new twelve millimeter bolt, while with a half inch conical tooth washer the teeth to the washer are facing the hitchinto the manufacturer's well nut that we removed the manufacturer's bolt from. Then once we have that supporting the weight of the hitch, we can go ahead and install our conical tooth washer and half inch nut for our half inchcarriage bolt. Next we'll install the hardware into the side of the frame, using our half inch bolt leader we'll go through the attachment point and out the access hole in the bottom of the frame. There we can slide on the block and thread on the carriage bolt, feed the block and bolt into the frame and then pull them into position. Once in place, we'll remove the bolt leader and install the half inch split lock washer and the half inch nut. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process for our fourth and final attachment point, keep in mind each process we do on one side we'll repeat identically on the opposite side. Now with all the hardware in place we'll go ahead and tighten it down. Next we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured and torque tospecifications, we're ready to reinstall the exhaust. With our exhaust reinstalled, we'll go ahead and remove the safety strap and this will complete the install of our hidden hitch, part number 87432 on our 2008 Chrysler Pacifica.

This is the second hitch I ordered from etrailer.com and as before the hitch is great quality sold at a good price. etrailer.com excells at support online with top-quality, application specific installation videos and instructions. I also really appreciate the email contact throughout the entire ordering and shipping process-- I know just where everything stands. The only negative was that the box the hitch arrived in was busted up so the frame mounting ends of the hitch were sticking out. These had gotten banged up and the powder-coat had chipped off in several spots. Nothing a minute with a rattle-can of paint couldn't take of, but it's a shame that the top-quality anti-rust coating Hidden Hitch uses was compromised. The first hitch I odered was just fine, but it was shaped a bit different, and perhaps the box it was in was handeled better by UPS. etrailer remains my "go to" place for everything I need for towing/trailer parts. 9086

Hidden hitch was exactly as I had expected and was easy to install. Took me an hour to hour and half to mount the hitch and wiring. 40158

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Is There a Difference Between the Hitch Receivers Offered for the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica 4.0
  • The three hitch receivers offered for the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, Hidden Hitch # 87432, Curt # 13529, and Draw-Tite # 75522, are basically identical, have the same towing capacities, and will install in the same way. There really is no way to get around lowering the exhaust and removing your spare tire may ease the installation process so it is highly recommended. Some say that Curt hitches have a better powder coating but for the most part, price is going to be the main difference....

  • Options for Carrying Luggage and Other Cargo with a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica on a Long Drive
  • I checked on using a cargo basket on the roof rack on your 2006 Chrysler Pacifica and found that the cross bars are only designed for Ski and Snowboard carriers. But since you have a roof mounted cargo bag, that could be used on the roof, just be sure not to exceed the capacity of the roof of your vehicle, to secure the bag at as many points as practical and to clean the vehicle roof and bottom of the bag before installation. I would recommend a trailer hitch and hitch mounted cargo...

  • Recommendations for Carrying Bikes with a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica
  • I checked with our suppliers and the roof rack side rails and cross bars on the 2007 Chrysler Pacifica are not strong enough for any accessories other than snow board and snow ski mounts. They do not recommend using any other roof mounted accessories like a bike rack on your vehicle. this means that you will need to select some other means for carrying bikes with your Pacifica. My first recommendation for you would be to use a hitch mounted bike rack and trailer hitch to carry bikes...

  • Bike Rack Recommendations to Carry 3 Bikes on a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
  • We do have trunk mounted bike rack options for your 2004 Chrysler Pacifica, however, Yakima, the manufacturer of Prorack racks, states that their trunk mounted racks are not compatible with your vehicle. I can also tell you that it is not recommended to carry more than 2 bikes on a trunk mounted bike rack on your vehicle because the weight of a three or more bikes could damage your rear hatch. We do offer Thule trunk mounted bike racks like the Thule Raceway 2 Bike Rack, # TH9001PRO,...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica
  • We have hitch solutions for your 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, but the hitch fits for a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country are different so they would not fit. For your Pacifica the most popular option is the Hidden Hitch # 87432. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you would want the part # 118303 which has also been confirmed as a fit. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball...

  • Is the Hidden Hitch Class II Round Tube for 2005 Chrysler Pacifica bike rack compatible and hidden?
  • This hitch will work great with bike racks! Just ensure that the rack you are purchasing is compatible with the 2 inch Hidden Hitch receiver, part # 87432. That is a very common question about our Hidden Hitch hitches. Hidden Hitch is the brand name and does not necessarily mean that the hitch will not be seen. Most of our receiver hitches are beneath the bumper and the square receiver opening is all that is noticeable. This hitch is a round tube style and part of the tube does show beneath...

  • Torque Rating for Hidden Hitch Class III # 87432 for 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
  • We don't publish the torque ratings for the fasteners, because the hitch manufacturers can change them. If you look at the bottom of page 2 of the instructions (see provided link), you'll see the torque rating for both the 1/2 inch and the M12 fasteners. The links pull the instructions directly from the manufacturer's websites, so they're always current. I'll also link you to an install video for the hitch. • Will Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch 87432 Fit a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica with Full Size Spare Tire
  • I spoke with my contact at Hidden Hitch about hitch # 87432. He stated that the full-size spare tire on the vehicle will not be a problem. It will be easier to install the hitch if you remove the spare but after the hitch is installed the tire will go back into place. If you plan on doing some towing I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring if needed use # 118303. I have included...
