Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

At we're committed to the products we sell, and to our customers. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff are available via both phone and email to address your questions and concerns for the lifetime of your hitch. Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Chevrolet HHR

Today on this 2011 Chevrolet HHR were going to install part number 24756 from Draw Tite. And this is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the pin hitch hole to the outer most point of the bumper is going to be 6, and from the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 10-1/2. Next well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. First thing we need to do is go ahead and lower the exhaust on the drivers side.

We will start off by using a spray lubricant on rubber hangers to make them easier to remove. We are going to use a simple pry bar to pry it off. Next I am going to show you where the attachment holes are going to be. Lets go ahead and use this hole right here, and also this hole here, and this will be identical on both sides of the vehicle. We just got done looking at the passengers side.

This hole here we are going to have to drill out to accept our half inch bolt, and on our drivers side bolt hole we dont have to do any drilling here. Lets go ahead and start installing the hardware. We will take the provided bolt leader, put it through the hole were going to use and over to this oval hole here as one of the attaching points. Next well take our block, thread it, push into the frame, and then we will thread in our carriage bolt, we will push everything inside and pull it out the hole. From the large oval hole to install our fasteners, we are going to take the bolt and the block, push it into the frame and pull it back down through the same hole.

Then we will repeat the same process back over on the drivers side. Alright now at this point we can go ahead and install the hitch, what we are going to do is take one half of the hitch over the muffler, use that to hold it up, and then we are going to install fasteners on the passengers side. With our hardware installed we will hand tighten down the bolts, and then we will tork them down as specified in the instructions. At this point we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. And with that that will finish it for our install of part number 24756 from Draw Tite.

Fantastic - watched the video online and ran a 1/2 bit through the rear hole on the pax side when I placed the order. Free 5-day shipping arrived on time - box was a bit battered but hitch was fine. Jacked car up from both sides, put jack stands under it and wondered if I had enough room to drop the muffler but it went in just like the video showed it would. May order something to keep the back up when it has a load but have to wait until the snow melts to get my little trailer out and see the effect of being hooked up. Will keep coming back to etrailer. Dealing with them is trouble-free. The trailer hitch came with a draw bar - great product with the best price for someone who's going to tow. 66329

I still have the HHR, and the hitch continues to perform as designed. The finish is still good, the Hidden Hitch rubber plug even stays tight when the stinger isnt in. Couldnt be happier with the hitchwiring harness. The hitch on that car has been very useful. My son hauled his mountain bike thousands of miles last summer on a bike rack ed into the hitch. Its been a center-of-balance trick to match the small trailers I tow so the tongue weight is not exceeded but still totally worth the effort. I added a tailgate to my motorcycle trailer so that when my dirt bikes on it the tongue weight is 80 pounds and the trailer weight is 485. Happy that I did some research prior to buying and the installation video on your site was the best research result I found.

Good product. Easy installation. The video on the e-trailer website really helped with the installation. 126612

Thanks for the follow up, and for being customer service driven. To answer you question, I am still pleased with the products I purchased from am in need of a wiring harness for another vehicle, and because of you good service, I will be purchasing it from etrailer.

Purchased for my 2007 Chevy HHR. This receiver is very well made and fits perfectly. The images and installation video were the best. I was able to complete the install in about 45 minutes. The only problem I had was that the 2007 HHR has a 3rd hidden hanger that needs to be released to drop the muffler. Once I found the right installation video for my year car I was back on track. I was able to do most of the work with the car on the ground, but had to lift the back wheels on ramps and get a friend to help me position the receiver to bolt it on. The receiver came with a bolt leader. I purchased an extra one ($1.36) when I placed my order and was glad I did, because I bent one in use. Now that I know my receiver fits, I have ordered my bike rack from etrailer. Their prices are actually better than other sites 451376

This is one great product. It arrived quickly, looks great ,was built strong and was a snap to install. It took my buddy and I about an hour to do the installation. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend E Trailers to anyone. 9240

Fast shipping and great communication. This looks like a very sturdy and well made product. I put mine on an HHR SS. There were concerns over interference with the shroud, but this is virtually nill. Anything you can see requires you to lay down and look up. I couldn't install it for a couple months after I got it because of the endless rain. My only complaint so far was the difficulty of installation. What a total PITA. Especially the fish tape that wouldn't come off the bolts for anything after fishing them through the holes. It ended up getting bent to crap each time. The kit really needs a seperate fish tape for each bolt. Eventually I got it installed in about three hours, (long enough for my stereo to kill the battery). The name is right. You can hardly tell it's there. 16184

The hitch fit perfectly on my 2010 Chevy HHR. I was able to install it by using the emergency jack to get both sides of the car about a half a foot off the ground and secured each side with a floor jack stand. That gave me enough wiggle room to get the muffler free and access the holes. The hardest part was securing the hitch by myself. I was apprehensive about lying it against the muffler because the muffler was about five years old and showing its age, but it held the hitch while I secured the other side and the video was great and showing how to fish the bolts. The hitch looks even and well secured. The only complaint I have is that the drawbar actually tore out of the box it was shipped in. Luckily UPS left it on top of the hitch box and didn't lose it. 216407

overall good product, was disappointed at first as the hitch i ordered was not in stock and would have a delay of a couple weeks. Got Laura H. on the phone and she was extremely helpful,. cancelling the old one and taking my order for the trailer hitch. She even refunded my money back into paypal as this was a credit card order. The hitch was here the very next day, and I had it installed by evening. only one difficulty,l and that is I already had a standard 1-1/4 drawbar, but it bottomed our inl the hitch, making it impossible to insert the pin. had to cut off about 1/4 inch of it. otherwise, I am very happy, especially with Laura's help. 80036

This product is great! Installed it with in an hour. The video was a great feature, eazy to follow. Can't wait to use it hauling my tent trailer to the beach. I also puchased the wire harness. Now that was a snap to install, took about 15 mintues. 12100

Went on very easy. Zero problems. Recommend 2 people when bolting it in so bolts dont get pushed into unibody. Can do it under an hour at a very relaxed pace and under 30 mins if you ever do it again. 63340

The video for the install was helpful BUT, I found it a little more involved on my 2006 HHR 2.4L HO. Holes shown were not as on video but close also had to drop a total of 4 rubber exhaust hangers. Once i got it all ready and wiggled the hitch over the exhaust it was no time at all until I was done. Use the video as a starting point and go from there. I do not know why my car was different but it was. Living in South Central Florida I am a happy camper. Now I can haul bikes to trails and kayak to the Keys with light weight trailer and don't have to use my truck! 283485

My Draw-Tite hitch was shipped promptly and arrived in good condition. The video instructions were about all I needed to perform this installation on my 2011 HHR. I'm 66 years old and not as nimble or strong as I used to be but I installed the hitch by myself in about 90 minutes. I used a floor jack on the driver's side to raise the body a couple of inches and the HHR's scissor jack to hold the hitch in place while I installed the washers and nuts. I'm very pleased with this purchase! 65586

Wow, Received the hitch in less than 48 hours. I'm in a small town in TExas, and you guys shipped from Mo. Incredible! Very well packaged, was impressed with the look of strength of the unit. I work alone, so am still trying to figure how to get the unit up to the bolts without moving them. So far so good! looking for a way to raise the hitch to attach the bolts. Might try to attach the hitch to the floor jack and lift it into place. Thanks so far!!! 101085

Just Right. Purchased and installed this on my '08 HHR in Nov. 08. Installation was simple thanks to e-Trailer's website videos. I bought it to mount the Swagman #S64670 bike carrier, which fits it fine. The package works great for carrying our bikes. We have taken several trips and everything just fits and works fine. e-Trailer is a very good company with which to do business. I recemmend them to you for all your trailering & hauling needs. 1774

Product is great! Installation instructions suck! The job that you claim takes 40 minutes took me about three hours. I am an experienced mechanical engineer with many years of machine design under my belt, have worked on cars all my life and own every tool known to man. It still was a difficult project. You might include the ball mount and maybe a ball. Even at additional cost--these items are necessary. 172483

A ball mount is included with the Hidden Hitch and Curt 1-14 inch hitches. We sell the Draw-Tite 1-1/4 inch without a ball mount for those looking to save a few dollars when they will only be using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier. Trailers in this weight range may use a 1-7/8 or a 2 inch ball so bundling a ball may not be useful.

Just a great product. Has been perfect for my needs. Not one problem since installation. I use it at least once a week. Very satisfied.

Wow. At the risk of sounding cheesy, I only regret having waited so long to do this. The price was small. The part came inside of three days, fit exactly, and was in place in less than an hour. I did this alone, but here's my advice. Watch the video. Raise your car a bit so you fit under it, and have a friend help if you can because its heavy and awkward. But if you are thinking about it, just do it! 92328

by: Brent P.09/29/2017

This trailer hitch has held up fairly well over the past year. I've hauled many trailers. the hitch itself appears to have bent downward a bit, nothing big, by about an inch, and it could be due to hauling trailers on all the dirt roads near my house. Overall I'm satisfied, if the hitch broke I would buy it again, as it's added utility to my otherwise limited utility vehicle. 437538

Great product Fantastic shipping time to SC. Two Days. Everything I ordered came in one box in perfect condition. Watched video and read instructions. Did install exactly to the letter of the instructions, and install went perfect. Install time was about 35 minutes. Wiring harness took about maybe 40 minutes. Works perfect, again no problems. Strongly recommend products. 3223

Went on with out a lift using jack stands in about 45 minutes. Fairly easy install. Well constructed and should serve light trailer duties and bike rack usage very well. Note: If you are ordering this it comes with a 1/2" wire feeder so don't order one! etrailer, great job of communicating and very fast shipping!!! Thanks! 17102

Does the hitch come in one pieces or 3 pieces ?

This hitch, part # 24756
Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4"
, is all one piece. The flanges are already welded to the cross tube. The hardware will be in a bag that is usually wrapped to the hitch.

As advertised. I just installed the Draw Tite hitch on my Chevy HHR by myself while it sat on the garage floor. Took two hours, and that includes gathering tools and trips to the basement to get stuff. Installation of the hitch and wire harness went, well, without a hitch. Appreciate the installation videos too. Highly recommend etrailer. 3445

The hitch was exactly what I needed to use for hauling bikes. I also reviewed hints on how to install it, which were a great help. On my car, getting the muffler to drop out of the way was the hardest part of the installation. I also followed advice of having a helper, so we could lift the hitch into place more easily. 279081

I bought a hitch and the wiring for a trailer. It fit my 2011 HHR like a glove. Took me 30 minutes to install and about 5 to hook the harnes up. Just measure the bolt pattern first so you get the right hole pattern. Delivery was faster than I expected. Thanks, now I can use my canoe and trailer. Paul L. 239620

installed in less than an hour, half the price of any competitor in our area (wi). I did this alone no assistance from wife or kids. Only suggestion that is not listed in the instruction is to remove all the exhaust hangers not just the 3 and ream out both back holes, not just the one. GREAT PRODUCT! 13039

This hitch seems well built and fit with no problems. Just needed to raise the drivers side of the HHR to get a good angle to slip the hitch in above the muffler (muffler supports removed as instructed). Note that I installed it with no help. A lift and a friend would have made the install a breeze. 29039

This is a well constructed hitch. Because of the 40 plus lbs weight of the hitch it is best installed by two people. The installation couldn't be any easier. The only way is to have a hitch professionally installed at over twice the price. installation time was under a half hour. I couldn't be happier. 12174

Easy to install but not hidden This product is easy to install and requires minimal time and tools. Did need to buy a 1/2 inch drill bit to finish drilling out holes but installation took less than 1 hour. Non factory threaded pin worked well with no noisy rattling and a snug fit. 1161

  • We currently offer 2 different Class I hitches available for your 2008 Chevy HHR LT1. There are a few differences among them. The Draw-Tite hitch, part # 24756 does not include a draw bar, and would be a better choice for an attachment point for a bike rack. The Curt receiver, part # 11447 also includes the draw bar and pin and clip and is very similar in appearance to the other hitch, with the exception of a glossier paint finish. It would install in the same manner as the other...

  • Do I Need to Trim The Rear Fascia of my 2010 Chevy HHR SS to Install the Draw-Tite #24756
  • Yes, you will need to cut a 3 inch wide portion in the middle of the rear fascia all the way up to the first bend in the fascia to install this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4 inch, part # 24756, on your 2010 Chevy HHR SS. To the right there is a picture I took from the installation directions that shows where the trimming of the fascia will be. I have also attached a link to the instructions below as well as a link to a video of the hitch being installed...

  • Drawbar Recommendation for a 2006 Chevy HHR with a Hidden Hitch # 60815
  • I did a little research and found that the draw bar came with your Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, part # 60815 (no longer available), is the Sportframe Drawbar 4 inch Rise, part # 3594. Since your hitch is a Class I hitch it is not recommended that you use any drawbar other than the one that the hitch manufacturer recommends otherwise you will void your warranty. The reason they are very particular about using the right rise/drop drawbar is that if you were to get...

  • Needing Receiver Hitch for 2008 Chevy HHR SS
  • We do indeed offer two different Class I receiver hitches that are compatible with your 2008 Chevy HHR SS. I recommend Draw-Tite # 24756. If you were planning on towing, you might also need the following: A ball mount Wiring harness with 4-pole trailer connector, part # 118407 2 inch trailer ball, part # 19258 1-7/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19256 Locking hitch pin, part # RH2-XL When choosing accessories like a bike rack, make sure to choose a rack that is compatible with...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Chevy HHR
  • Curt and Draw Tite are not the same company. Curt is it's own company whereas Draw Tite is made by Cequent which also makes Reese, Hidden Hitch, and Pro Series hitches. They are all great brands that I would feel comfortable recommending for your 2001 Chevy HHR, but for your vehicle I would go with the Draw Tite part # 24756 since it has the most positive reviews over all of the other hitches available. Plus, if you were to use a non-supported hitch accessory like a bike rack you wouldn't...

  • How to Carry Four Bikes on 2008 Chevy Cobalt Sedan
  • If your Cobalt sedan is a Sport Model, I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class I receiver, part # 24756. For a non-Sport model, go with the Draw-Tite Class I, part # 24745. However due to the very limited weight capacity of the Class I receiver, both the hitch and bicycle rack manufacturers all agree that any bike rack used on a Class I receiver should not be used to carry any more than two bikes. Carrying additional bikes can place the weight of the bikes too far away from the hitch, causing...

  • Does the Rear Bumper have to be Trimmed to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2011 Chevy HHR
  • If you have a 2011 Chevy HHR and it is an SS model, there is a small section that needs to be trimmed in the rear fascia for the hitch to fit properly. I have included a link to the installation instructions that shows where you would need to to trim. On non-SS models, you should not have to trim and the isntallation should be like the video I have linked. If you plan on doing some towing, the hitch comes with the proper ball mount, pin and clip. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Ball Mount for a 2009 Chevy HHR
  • The trailer hitch I recommend is the Draw-Tite Class I # 24756 and Draw-Tite ball mount # 3594 because the top of the receiver to the ground is 10-1/4 inches and the ball mount will give you a 4-inch rise. As a result, giving you a 14-1/4 inch ground clearance and stay above the 13-1/2 inches. The weight will bring the clearance down a tad from the 14-1/4 inch clearance which will keep your trailer more level. The wiring for your 2009 Chevy HHR is # 118407 and 1-7/8 hitch ball is # 19256.

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Chevy Cobalt
  • Based on the size of the food cart you have the only option I can recommend for you would be to install a hitch on your 2006 Chevy Cobalt like # 24745 or part # 24756 if you have an SS model and tow a small trailer. The dimensions of the food cart are too big to fit on a cargo carrier. The hitch I recommended comes with pin and clip. You will still need a ball mount. For a ball you can use # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). You will need to check the coupler...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2011 Chevrolet HHR
  • We carry all the major trailer hitch brands and according to our manufactures there is only a Class I trailer hitch available for your 2011 Chevrolet HHR LT Flex Fuel. I would recommend the Draw-Tite # 24756 over the Curt # C11447 because Curt requires the use of a stabilization support strap # 18050 with any non-trailer load per their warranty. For a light weight bike rack that is compatible with the Class I hitch, I recommend the Thule Helium Aero # TH9042. The Thule Helium # TH9042...

  • Hitch mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2007 Chevy HHR With a Draw-Tite Hitch
  • The important measurement to keep in mind for picking out a bike rack to go with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24756 is the distance from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point out on your rear bumper. Luckily, we have had the chance to install the # 24756 on an HHR that is very similar to yours and know that you need 5-1/2 inches of clearance. You will need to find a bike carrier with a distance that is greater than 5-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin out to...

  • Choosing the Correct Trailer Hitch and Accessories for a 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT1
  • For the 2008 model year, the Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24756 fits the Sport, Sport Sedan, and SS Coupe models of the Chevy Cobalt. If you have a regular sedan or coupe model you would need # 24745. The underside of each may look similar but the mounting locations and hitch design are different which is why there are different hitches for each. I have included links to the installation instructions for both hitches for you to view. If you require the first hitch, 24756, the correct...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2011 Chevrolet HHR
  • I would recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24756 for your 2011 Chevrolet HHR. This trailer hitch is rated Class I and has a max tongue weight of 200 pounds. Draw-Tite's Class I trailer hitch will work well for carrying a bike rack. I have attached an installation video of this hitch on a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. The hitch is competitively priced with other Class I trailer hitches for your HHR. One reason I recommend this Draw-Tite trailer hitch over the comparably priced Curt Class...

  • Will a Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2005 Chevy Cobalt SS with Rear Spoiler
  • The large spoiler on your 2005 Chevy Cobalt will prohibit the use of a trunk mount bike rack so you will need to use a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike rack. This is actually the most stable way to carry bikes on a vehicle and it keeps the bikes off of the trunk so it will not get damaged. You can use hitch # 24756. It fits the SS sedan and Coupe including Supercharged models. I have included links to the instructions and a video showing a typical installation. For a compatible...

  • Hitch and Trailer Recommendation for a 2011 Chevy HHR
  • The only way you could transport a 500 handicap scooter with your 2011 Chevy HHR would be for you to install a hitch like part # 24756 and then use a small trailer like the # TLK864. A cargo carrier setup wouldn't work because your vehicle wouldn't have the tongue weight rating to suspend the weight of your 500 lb wheel chair off the ground unsupported. To complete your towing setup you would also want a ball mount, the # 118407 for trailer wiring, # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball,...

  • Installation Time for a Hitch on a 2009 Chevrolet HHR
  • For this particular installation I do not see a difference in the installation so I believe the difference is just in the amount of time the manufacturers stated at the time of engineering. The installation is essentially the same for all of the hitches (see link) offered for the 2009 Chevrolet HHR. I would allow a bit more time, maybe 1-1/2 hours, for the installation if working off of the ground without a lift.

  • Which Roof Rack and Cargo Cages are Available for a 2007 Chevrolet HHR?
  • We can set you up with everything you'll need to install a roof rack or cargo carrier on your 2007 Chevy HHR. I recommend going with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier over a roof rack; the only instance in which the rack has an advantage is installation. Aside from that, you will likely find more uses for a hitch, and even if you only use it to haul cargo, it is going to be easier to use a hitch-mounted carrier than a rooftop box. To use a hitch-mounted cargo box, you will first need to...

  • Which Class I Ball Mount to Use with Draw-Tite Hitch # 24756 for 4-Inch Rise on 2008 Chevrolet HHR
  • Draw-Tite hitch # 24756 is a light-duty 1-1/4-inch Class I hitch that installs in your 2008 Chevrolet HHR without need to drill any new holes on the car's frame. It requires use of a compatible Class I ball mount # 3594 which offers a 4-inch rise. With this ball mount you can use 1-7/8-inch hitch ball # 19256. If you refer to the linked photo you'll see the mount's dimensions. This 10-inch-long ball mount will provide both enough clearance at your bumper and the required 4-inch height...

  • Is there an Adapter to Use Class II Accessories with a Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Chevy HHR
  • The issue is not exactly the depth of the receiver but the stop that is punched into it, see picture. This stop does not allow the use of Class II accessories as a safety precaution to keep users from overloading a Class I trailer hitch. I can sell you an adapter that will work with the Class I hitch, # HTAD, but it will expand the receiver from a 1-1/4 inch to a 2 inch and you still would not be able to use the Class II accessories. Also, the use of an adapter will reduce the tongue...

If you choose the Curt hitch then Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements. If you don't want to have to use the strap then I recommend the Draw-Tite hitch, # 24756, because it does not require the use of...

  • Why Draw Tite Trailer Hitch Over Curt for a 2007 Chevy HHR For Bike Rack
  • In general we recommend the Draw Tite hitches over the Curt for bike racks since Curt hitches require the use of a stabilizer strap when the hitch is carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. So for a 2007 Chevy HHR the Draw Tite hitch part # 24756 would be the best option. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle is the Thule Roadway 2 part # TH912XTR. We asked our demo and install guys to name their favorite, most easy-to-use bike racks...

For most vehicles all of the hitch manufacturers will go with a very similar design that uses the same installation points on the vehicle.
