Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Cadillac SRX

Today on this 2004 Cadillac SRX, were going to install part number 75174 from Draw-Tite. Its also applied to part number 87661 from Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories. From top to the receiver opening down to the ground on this particular vehicle is going to be 14 3/8 inches. From the center of the hitch pinhole to outside edge of the bumper is going to be 1 inch.

Now Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed on the vehicle. First thing we need to do is go ahead and lower the spare tire once youve done already. And then the next thing you need to do is lower the exhaust. Were also going to use a strap on our exhaust just to hold it in place looking to control over a more easier when we lower it down. Were going to spray down our rubber hangers with some lubricant two in the back and one going towards the front.

We can use just a simple pry bar to pry off the hangars. Now our next step is actually remove the bell part of the hanger from the vehicle. After three bolts removed, one on each side of the frame and one on the bottom, we have to do that because this lower stud right here, we actually had to take a cut off wheel and cut it off flat as possible. We had our driver side done; were going to passenger side and remove that bracket as well. All right the next step is go ahead and start throwing the heat shield out.

We held a hitch up to it to see how much we may need to cut out and we made an outline on our heat shield. All right, this is the area we need to cut out; however, this heat shield had seen better days theres a natural brake back here. So we should go all the way up with that and on this side were actually bind it up and fold it out of the way and be fine. Well repeat same process on the driver side as well. Okay, we did a couple of tests with the hitch to make sure the heat shield is out of the way.

Once were satisfied with that, well go ahead and start cleaning out the weld nuts in the frame. These are three locations for weld nuts, here, here and here. And theres going to be identical on both sides of the car. Were going to spray down the holes with some lubricant and were going to run a hitch bolt in and out a few times to help clean them out. Now this is an older vehicle, so chances are were going to use a thread tap to really clean these out. To help clean up thread, well be using tube brush and thats for part number 814092. This vehicle also has an air compressor mounted right here, so we have to remove these two bolts and tilt it down. Now, the hanger brackets that we had removed, well go ahead and put them back into place. At this point, we can go ahead and install the hitch. We definitely want to get extra hands to help hold it up there, hold it in position while you get the bolts threaded in. And then well flag down a bolt and then torque them down as described in the instructions. All right next we can go ahead and reinstall the air pump. The hitch has a hole in it so you can reinstall it and use the factory to fasten it. And on the backside here, the kit provides a block so it sits even. Now Ill go and put the heat shield back into place. Well just bend them back down. And then we can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust back onto the hangers. And with that that finished our reinstall of part number 75174 from Draw-Tite.

I ordered the hitch and bought the wiring kit for it as well and I am very pleased with the product. The hitch was heavy and very durable - looked good and fit like a glove. Installation was simple and the install video was a great tool to view before and during install. I would highly recommend this hitch to anyone also having a second person to help with install is a must. 121225

Ask the Experts about this Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch

  • What is the Difference Between Hidden Hitch 87661 and Draw-Tite 75174 for a 2007 Cadillac SRX
  • Hidden Hitch # 87661 and Draw-Tite # 75174 are the same design. They are sister companies that share their designs. The difference between these two hitches is the gloss or sheen on the finish. The Hidden Hitch is a duller finish than the Draw-Tite. Either one will work fine, it is just a matter of finish preference. Most of the hitch is tucked up underneath the bumper, but the receiver is visible. I have added a link to the instructions that show you where the hitch is positioned in...
