Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2004 Cadillac DeVille - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2004 Cadillac DeVille we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part number 36287. Now here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 5". From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 12". Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. Now let's go ahead and begin by pointing out our attachment points. We'll begin over here on the passenger side of the vehicle.

We'll be using this existing weld nut, the hole right here in the frame, as well as the hole right here. Now the attachment points will be in the same locations over on the driver side. Now the first step we're going to do is go ahead and clean out each of the existing weld nuts. We'll go ahead and use a little bit of spray lubricant and a 1/2" nylon tube brush, which is part number 814092. Now once you have the threads cleaned out it's a good idea to make sure that the bolt threads in easily.

Now keep in mind that anything we do over here on the passenger side, we'll repeat over on the driver side. Now it's good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position. With the hitch up into position we'll go ahead and take the hardware and install it into the weld nut on each side. Our hardware that we'll be using to attach the hitch to each of the existing weld nuts is an 8mm bolt. Now that we have each of these 8mm bolts in we'll go ahead and snug them down a little bit to support our hitch while we install the other hardware. Now let's go over the hardware that we'll be using for the remaining four mounting locations. We'll be using a 1/2" carriage bolt, square hole spacer block, and these two items will actually be fish-wired or pull-wired into the vehicle's frame using a pull wire like this.

Once the carriage bolt is in position we'll be installing a conical tooth washer, making sure that the teeth face towards the hitch, and a 1/2" hex nut. Now we'll go ahead and take the coiled end of our fish wire or pull wire. We'll feed it through the mounting location. Then we'll come out the end of the frame rail. Go ahead and slide our square hole spacer block on first. Then we'll thread the 1/2" carriage bolt.

You want to push the square hole spacer block and carriage bolt back up into the frame, and you'll pull it into position using our pull wire. We'll then need to go ahead and remove the pull wire. Now it's a good idea to keep your finger on the bolt as you're doing this so it doesn't slide back into the vehicle's frame. We'll then install the conical tooth washer, followed by the hex nut. Now for the rear mounting location you're able to just reach your hand up in and set the square hole spacer block over the hole. We'll go ahead and line that up. We'll then go ahead and drop the carriage bolt into place. We can then go ahead and put the conical tooth washer and hex nut onto the carriage bolt. We'll then go ahead and tighten down all the hardware and torque it to the manufacturer's specification. That will do it for the installation of our Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver, part number 36287, on our 2004 Cadillac DeVille. .

The product is great and easy to install. I only had issues, for the vehicle must have been in an accident and the new bumper covered over the pass thru holes, so I had to take off the bumper cover and bumper to complete the installation. This was not the fault of etrailer or the product. Everything I have bought from them has been great and the installation was as quick as they said on the website. I highly recommend this product and company. 722357

The people at etrailer.com were EXTREMELY helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly! They took the time to help me understand the various (read: overwhelming) options and select the best one for my vehicle. I >>> STRONGLY <<< recommend etrailer.com for your trailer needs! 588523

Both hitch and wiring kit installed with little problem. The instructions for the hitch showed a vehicle a few years older than mine but the same body style. My car mounted the rear bumper supports slightly differently and this had me scratching my chin until I realized the access points for the hitch bolts were there, just in a different place. Once my tunnel vision cleared, no problems at all. 549576

The hitch assembly was received yesterday, and I immediately began the installation. The assembly went on well, the instructions were pretty good. The installation of the bolts inside the frame rails using the wiggly wire was difficult. After many hot weather breaks, and cold sodas, finally got those bolts inside completed. Various neighbors came by and mentioned they too had a tough time with the wiggly wire part of the installation. Not sure how else this could be accomplished other than cut more holes in the frame. 518742

The hitch arrived promptly; w/o damage to the box. The parts were all there and of good quality. I read the instructions and looked at the youtube video, which was very helpful. I installed it myself raising the back of the car by about 12 inches with a floor jack. Did not have to lower the exhaust. Installation took about an hour. All installations should be this easy. We will use the hitch for a bike rack, and , later, perhaps for a hitch carrier and an electric scooter. 424231

This is the second hitch I've bought from etrailer. Both have worked out great. Fast shipping and easy to install. I'm 68 so if I can install them, most can. 402498

I had it professionally installed (getting too old to do that stuff anymore on the garage floor). Took them less than an hour. Wiring is a different issue but that is not relevant to the hitch (its a Cadillac problem). Would recommend this product. Can hardly even see the unit, as it fits very nicely "up and under" the rear end. Will use it for a small, light utility trailer (5x10 max). Shipped very quickly. No problems of any kind. Sorry don't have pics. 345629

  • Minimum Accessory Shank Length for a Hitch on a 2002 Cadillac De Ville
When we installed the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, Class II # 36287 on a similar Cadillac DeVille to your 2002 model, we found that the center of the hitch pin hole sits 5 inches behind the rear bumper. If this hitch sits in the same place on your 2002 DeVille, you will need at least 5-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the hitch accessory to clear the bumper, and give yourself a bit of wiggle room. If you're looking to carry bikes on your DeVille,...

For your 2004 Cadillac DeVille, I recommend the Draw-Tite Class II Frame Receiver Hitch # 36287. This Class II trailer hitch is custom-designed and confirmed to fit your vehicle. It has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and a 3,500 pound towing capacity, although you will also want to check the capacity for the vehicle itself as listed in the owner's manual. I recommend this hitch over the Curt alternative also confirmed to fit your vehicle because unlike Curt, Draw-Tite does not require the...

  • Hitch Placement of Draw-Tite Hitch part # 36287 on a 2001 Cadillac DeVille
We have not installed one of these on a 2000-2005 DeVille. I have included a link to the instructions that shows where the hitch is in relation to the rear bumper. See the top left corner. The picture shows the drawbar in the hitch, but the drawbar can be removed when not in use. You will not be able to see much of the hitch unless you kneel down level with the car.
