Today on this 2003 Jaguar X Type we are going to install part number 11339 from Curt. The first thing we need to do is remove the spare tire. We are inside the trunk pan now. Our next step is to locate the stiffener brackets that go inside the trunk pan. We have them laid out already right here, and what we have to do is match them up with the bolts that are on the hitch. On this hitch, the center is from the outside to here, to here. The outside bolts are 14-1/2 inches. Then we need to find the center of that measurement, which would be 7-1/4 inches. It is very handy to have this grommet in the center of the vehicle itself, we actually went by that. :43
Now that we have our stiffener brackets in place what we will do is mark out the center of the bolt holes and then drill them through. We have our holes marked, go ahead and drill them out with a 1/4 inch first and then go from there. Now that we have the hitch in a temporary position, we have a floor jack underneath it, you can see how we have the back part, the part that goes forward from the vehicle, how it wraps around a little bit from the trunk pan. It goes in between the ribs on both sides so we know we have a good fit. 1:29
With the hitch in position, we can go ahead and drill out our holes. We can drill them out to 7/16 inches. We are going to repeat the process on all the holes underneath the vehicle. We are going to use our hardware to temporarily bolt in our stiffener plate. We can drill out our hole right here. We are going to do that on both sides of the stiffener plate, so these will be the last two holes that we have to drill out. The hole will be a 3/8ths inch size. We have that drilled out, we will remove the bolts in the plate. Then we will apply some sealant to the holes we drilled. Then we will reinstall the plate and the bolts. Next, we will install our bolt, on the holes that go to the front of the vehicle, there will be a long bolt and a short bolt. The short bolt goes into the hole that is angled outward. The long bolt goes straight down. We are going to leave this bolt off to the side because next we are going to put the hitch up, and once that is in position it will be easier to thread that bolt in. We will repeat that on the other side of the vehicle, right now we are on the passenger side. 3:01
We will go ahead and lift our hitch up into position now. Be careful, do not poke the bolts back in. We will do one on each end just to hold everything up. We will work the other ones in. We have all our bolts started, we can go ahead and snug them up now. Then we will work on the bolts that are at an angle at the front of the trunk pan. Lets go back in the trunk, install the last two bolts, and snug those up. The last two nuts we have to install on the bolts are behind this plastic here. You can reach up and get to them kind of easily, but in order to get a little more working room we are going to pull the plastic cover loose. There are three plastic screws that we need to remove to get a little more working room. Then we will torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. Last thing we need to do is reinstall the spare tire and the coverings for it and we are done. 5:08
Now that the hitch is installed we can give you a couple of measurements. On this particular vehicle, the distance from the ground to the top of the receiver tube is 9-5/8ths inches. From the center of the hitch pin out to the edge of the bumper is about 6 inches. That will finish our install of part number 11339 from Curt.
