Perfect for light-duty towing, this custom, vehicle trailer hitch receiver features fully welded, gloss powder coated steel construction. Drawbar sold separately.Acura TL 08. Followed suggestions of others and removed the whole bumper. No fishing required. Had to cut about 1/2 x 2 inch from the bumper in the middle just above the receiver to put the bumper back in. Very happy with the product.
I've just mounted the Curt hitch to my 2004 Acura TL and happy overall with the result. The hitch is very solid and from the limited options available for a 3rd gen Acura TL, this would appear to be the sturdiest in its mounting. The other options mount through holes drilled in the trunk well, as compared to this hitch which mounts to the much sturdier structural rear bumper.
Note about installation: I feel that the instructions don't quite recommend the easiest process. The instructions will have you remove numerous plastic trim pins to be able to pull the rear bumper plastic partly out of the way in order to get the hitch in place and drill the holes. While I was able to get the hitch in place easily enough this way, the outer plastic is still a pain to work around and I found it impossible to both keep the partly mounted hitch in place for where I wanted to drill, pull aside the bumper plastic, and keep the drill lined up and straight while drilling the bolt holes. Growing a third hand would have helped here, but with that option not likely to happen I decided to go a bit further than the instructions.
I would recommend just removing the rear bumper plastic altogether (you are about half way there already in following the instructions), as it will give much easier access to the metal internal bumper that you are mounting the hitch to. With the plastic out of the way I didn't even need to use the fish line process to get the bolt/plate combo in place, a lot more access is allowed once the plastic is removed. Drilling the bolt holes was also much easier as there was no plastic bumper piece to work around. Wish I had just started the process with this approach to begin with, would have saved some time!
Haven’t installed it yet but I’ll let you know
Install was a breeze! I highly recommend removing the rear bumper if you’re savvy to that kind of thing. It just made it easier to install overall. Quality product!
