Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

This hidden, custom-fit hitch installs behind your vehicle's rear bumper so that the cross tube is always out of sight. Fully welded, corrosion-resistant receiver easily removes when not in use.The hitch was delivered today and it was poorly packed had moved and broken through the side of the shipping box. Powder coating was chipped on both ends of the hitch. The hitch is very well made, but the powder coating is thin and fragile. This will not stand up well in a northern climate where roads are salted. This is not uncommon with respect to competitors products.
After not using the hitch and receiver for the winter, our first trip the hitch release would not work to remove the hitch from the receiver. I contacted etrailer, the person on the line gave me some things to try, that did not work they washed their hands of the problem and had me deal with Draw-Tite, using the email etrailer gave me got me no response from Draw-Tite, ended up calling and waiting on hold for more than 1 1/2 hours (yes that long, phone screen had call time on it), that person was help full but I had to remove the receiver from the car (not fun on an BMW), and found that the key lock had break inside the hitch (laying the hitch on its side, the key cylinder came out), they did send me a new one and I will need to wait and see if this one holds up. etrailer is only a place to purchase items not a support company when defects happen.
We installed the hitch, but it took 5 hours between 2 men, it was hard because the hitch didn't fit my 2023 bmw x1, so we have to modify the car and the hitch. The model of that vehicle changed in 2023, so you should not advertise that this model of the hitch is for 2023 x1. I want to save other people this headache by telling you that. I could have not possibly ship it back, as it's a headache to ship such a large package back, so we made it work. These guys, who installed it have a lot of experience in installing hitches, so they made it work. They took the bumper off etc. and made adjustments.
I am curious to hear your thoughts on this.
This required pretty heavy modification on a 2023 BMW X1 shadow edition with M sport package. I had to trim the fascia, rear plastic sensor housing, heat shield. The fascia doesn't meet the heat shield under the vehicle now due to added depth but I plan to make a joining piece of sheet metal to do so. Overall the product is well made, but fitment requires a pretty solid level of wrenching and willingness to chop into your vehicle.

We have heard of this hitch being a difficult installation on the 2023 BMW X1, especially given the design to be "hidden" when the hitch is not in use. All of the modifications that will need to be made are in the installation manual. I definitely recommend reviewing the manual with your installer before taking the BMW there. I am passing along your experience to the manufacturer. Thank you for reaching out to us.
