Tech Tip
No drilling through vehicle frame required for installation , Requires temporary removal of bumper/fascia during installation , Heat shield must be permanently removed for hitch installation
Great product! Install on our 2017 BMW 330ix Wagon was mostly straightforward and directions were easy to follow. I took an afternoon to do it myself. We use the hitch to run the Thule XT 2 bike carrier and it’s been flawless. Only complaint was not seeking out this product sooner.
Just got back from installer. The Curt hitch fits my 2018 BMW230xi convertible almost perfectly. Reasonable price, arrived 2 days after placing order well packaged. The “almost” and four stars is because the receiver box impinges in the car’s facia plastic by maybe 3/8”. Installer said it’s okay as is, but they could cut a small bit of the facia away. It’s only noticeable if you look for it, so I’m okay with it as is. Needless to say, the receiver fits up nice and snug under the car, so better than hanging down an inch or two to scrape on driveways, etc. Maybe Curt will hear about this and lower the receiver box a tad. My bike rack fits nice and close to the back of the car, so doesn’t stick out. Overall very good experience. I’d buy again.
Hitch was exactly what was advertised and fit my 2014 BMW 328i X-drive Touring superbly. The instructional videos made for a quick and easy install. Super fast shipping (actually arrived 1day prior to estimated delivery date) Highly recommend Etrailer.com for any towing needs!
It said exact fit for my automotive but it was not. I am a fabricator so I made new plates and welded them on the receiver bar. It fit great after I took the parts off the laser. I could have done the same thing cheaper. I wish it would have said it wouldn't fit. I was not about to put the vehicle back together without it. It took a while to remove everything and I will not let something defeat me
Installation video was super helpful - laptop in the garage to follow along and pause, etc. I'm definitely a do-it-yourself guy with most automotive things, and while it's annoying to take the bumper off, there's nothing too crazy. I have to believe it's much easier to back the car onto ramps as I did. As for the hitch itself, I use it regularly for a bike rack but nothing else, and I have zero complaints. It's fairly hidden so not obnoxious.

Zero complaints after a year. It does exactly what I need it to!
Waiting for the bike rack . Can't wait to use it.
I had the product installed on my 2018 330i Xdrive today. I had my dealer do it, since the website made no claim that it would work on an Xdrive, and some reviewers hinted at a “challenge” relating to a heat shield. Also, one reviewer sawed out a piece of his bumper! I wasn't going to do this, that's for sure.
Installation took the technician 2 hours (I thought I saw a claim of 30-45 minutes?), and there was indeed an issue relating to the heat shield that sits between the muffler and the back bumper. It was not possible to put the shield back as it was originally, because the hitch is in the way. I told him to fasten the shield to its screw holes on the bumper using cable ties so it won't flap and rattle. He and his manager were perfectly OK with this. My only complaint is that now from a distance (say 20 feet) you can see the bright aluminum heat shield hanging under my black car. Maybe I'll need to paint the shield black.
All in all, I'm happy to have a hitch!

According to Curt, the heat shield should be removed and not reinstalled. The hitch itself will serve as a heat shield.
I bought this receiver just a few days after I bought my new car. I decided to have a local shop install it for me, to the tune of $250ish, and it was well worth not messing with parking sensors and removing bumpers, so I can't speak to the ease (or lack thereof) of install. I have a 2018 BMW 4 series, for reference. I have had this receiver on my car for nearly a year, and I absolutely love it. It sits flush with the bumper so when I remove my rack, it's barely noticeable. I absolutely recommend it.

Have had absolutely no issues this last year! Got an add-on for my 1up so its now a 2up and the receiver works perfectly!
Great customer service as usual! Arrived un-damaged as expected. The hitch is sturdy, cleanly painted & solid.
I was somewhat concerned about the installation given that instructions were for a BMW F30 (sedan) v. a F31 (sport-wagon), which is what I own. However, I had no challenges except for the heat shield.
Some online forums suggested removing it entirely, which I could have done, but it seemed like having some of it in place was better than none. So, I cut it to fit as best I could. In hind sight I was a bit aggressive, but successful nonetheless.
Hitch fits very well and I didn't have to cut the bumper which I was happy about.
I only use the hitch for my bike rack, but when going down the highway, things do wobble around a bit, so in hind sight I might have been better off if I had opted for the 2" receiver.
The hitch receiver arrived yesterday and I installed it this morning in about an hour. The video directions were very helpful in installing it.

Still working great!
On 28 September 2019, I ordered a Curt Class I Trailer Hitch - 1-1/4 and Kuat Transfer 1 Bike Platform Rack (For Fat Bike) for installation on my 2013 BMW 328i. The items arrived quickly. Since I work overseas, finding a reputable shop to install the hitch was a challenge. Fortunately for me, etrailer has an excellent how-to video for installing this hitch on a 2013 BMW 328i. The video came in very handy because the mechanic was used to working on trucks and different types of hitches. The installation took approximately 3 hours to complete. So far, both the hitch and platform are working great. As for the platform, it will barely fit 4.8" or larger fat tires (see pictures of my 5" tires) and the front tire must be partially deflated in order to secure the bike properly. Also, the clamping mechanism on the fat tire straps broke after one use. They are a complete waste of $$ IMO. I highly recommend using either rubber tarp straps, bungee cord, or heavy duty velcro straps to further secure the frame and rear wheel. I hope this review helps and let me know if you have any questions. Happy trails!!
The installation was easier than I thought on my 2018 BMW 430i. The video I watched had you drop the muffler to remove the rear portion of the heatshield (it was never put back on). Instead, I removed the bumper skin and bumper to have easy access to the heatshield. Then used a tin snips to custom cut the heatshield to allow placement of the hitch. All was accomplished without the use of a hoist or ramps.
Also, on the hitch itself, the 1-1/4 inch receiver tube only has 1 hole for the 1/2 inch threaded pin needed to secure my Swagman Rack receiver bar. That hole is 1-1/2 inch into the tube opening. I drilled another 1/2 inch hole 3 inches into the opening. Now the receiver bar uses the full length of the receiver tube and is much more stable. Also, the Swagman Receiver bar has a second hole that I can place another bolt through for even more secure fit.
After 1 year of service, my hitch is performing flawlessly. It's mounted on my 2011 BMW 335i, which is my baby. NOTHING goes in or on that car without first being checked out thoroughly. This hitch is no exception and it's worked out nicely. One of the things I like most about the hitch is how snugly it fits under the bumper (see photo). Ground clearance is already an issue with this car and I didn't want to make it any worse.
After 1 year, hitch is doing fine.
This is something like the 5th Curt hitch I've put on - they are great price value, well made, well powder coated, usually easy to install and well documented - although installation difficulty is not completely under their control, its more about the automaker and how they put the back of the car together.
My only quibble is for some cars Curt will tell you to 'discard or set aside and store the muffler heat shield if hitch is removed in future', when you can still cut/modify the heat shield and keep it on the car. Other cars they do tell you simply use some tin snips and trim it / slot it as needed. Its almost like some dudes at Curt HQ prefer to chuck 'em and other guys prefer to keep 'em and its luck of the draw who did the installation instructions. I ALWAYS (so far at least) refit the heat shield, in one case it was truly weird because it was a no brainer to put it back in the car so not sure why they tell you not to. Maybe some day I'll find one where you really can't do it but in meantime - suggest improvising if they tell you to toss the sheilds. Will definitely continue to buy them absolutely for sure.
The fact is that the hitch is well made and I have no complaints at all with etrailer. They did a great job. However, be aware that curt does a terrible job with the installation instructions. The instructions are embarrassingly poor. I have a semi-pro garage with all of the tools and it required 3.5 hours to install this on a 2015 BMW 328i wagon. Unfortunately Google wasn't much help either. But it's not rocket science, and can be figured out. It's just a LOT more involved than implied in the marketing material.
You MUST remove the rear heat shield section. The "maybe" provided by Curt is another example of their simply not doing diligence.
Anyway, a good hitch with less than no installation instructions. If I'd known I'd have recorded the process and youtube'd it for future explorers. Pleased with the purchase and etrailer. Obviously a bit riled at Curt. : )
This Trailer Hitch is the real deal. Great material, great gloss black powder coat. Easy to install.
There are a few steps I did not need to take in the installation that the video instructs you to do (lower exhaust off of bracket and remove heat shield) but the video is very helpful.
Was worried about fitment with the M Sport bumper but it clears perfectly. Very cool product, well engineered. Beats spending $600+ for roof racks! (Before buying basket/bike rack)
Shipped quickly as well!
Real nice quality. Good welds, nice powder coat finish. I did make it a bit better by making it a 2” receiver..but not totally necessary. Just fits my other hitches that way.
Installed Curt Hitch #C11367 on my 2013 BMW M Sport Package Sedan. Fits perfectly with no issues at all. Not sure why curt only shows it available for the 328i. Get it.

S.G. what did you do for the heat shielding? Trim it or leave it off? Any issues if you left it off?
Just finished installing the Curt 11367 hitch on my 2016 BMW M235i. The 11367 fits the M235i perfectly. Contrary to the instructions I suggest leaving the heatshield on the car, I used metal shears (tin snips) to cut out where it interferes with the hitch, see the picture. Alternately you could carefully hammer the heatshield in those areas to reshape it to clear the hitch. I'll be attaching my 1up bike rack for those more remote mountian bike adventures.
This was my second hitch and as before, the service was superb from purchase to delivery. There were timely updates between deliveries.
This hitch was for a 2016 BMW 320i.
Easy to order, received it in a timely manner, installation was not a problem and it work as advertised! No complaints.
Installed this same model on a 2015 BMW 320i a year ago. Just bought an '18 and it said this wasn't compatible, but bought one anyway (the car didn't change) hoping it would, and it fit perfect. And the install took about half the time. I didn't bother putting the heat shield on the first one and never had a problem, and didn't bother this time either. Installed on a 2018 BMW 320i xDrive.
Installation is time consuming, but certainly doable at home if you follow the instructions step by step. Watch the video on the website; it's much better than the written instructions. One thing the video doesn't mention is the heat shield isn't replaced. The final product is very clean and hardly noticeable.
Perfect for 2014 bmw 328d
Takes about 4h to take the rear bumper out, reinforced bar, add this towing hitch and put back your bumper.
Thank you, etrailer- fast delivery too!
