Video Transcript for Tow Ready Hitch Locks - Standard Pin Lock - 5201 Review

Today I'm going to take a look at the Tow Ready padlock style trailer hitch receiver lock for class three, class four and class five trailer hitch receivers. If you want to lock your new hitch cover to your hitch but you don't want to spend a lot of money, this padlock style receiver lock might be what you're looking for. It's economical, it's functional, and will unlock quickly with a quarter turn of the key. You just take your key, put it in there, and you only turn it a quarter of a turn, it slides right out, simple as that. You will use this lock in place of a standard pin and clip, prevents theft of your ball mount or a hitch accessory like a bike rack or a cargo carrier. It has a simple snap-on design, you don't need the key in to lock it. All you have to do is push it right in, it will lock automatically. It has a nice chrome plated pin and the key slot right here comes with this nice plastic cover to prevent any rust and corrosion.

A few specs on this, this will work on two inch by two inch hitch receivers, two and a half by two and a half inch hitch receivers, the pin diameter is five eighths of an inch. The overall length, we're going to measure from here all the way to here, right at seven and a quarter inches. The inside width, going to be right at about three and a half inches. Now what I'm going to do is we're going to demonstrate, let me unlock it, we're going to demonstrate, I have a ball mount here and a hitch receiver. Let's go ahead and unlock it just like that. I'm going to pull, here's a two inch by two inch hitch receiver opening and we got a ball mount already installed in it.

Now it's installed just with a pin and clip, so the problem there is if somebody wanted to take that, all they have to do is pull the clip out, slide the pin out, and they can slide that right out. What you want to do is replace that pin and clip with this lock. You can just slide this through there, again, you don't need your key in there. Just take the lock portion, slide it on there, it's locked automatically. Take your cover, put it into place to protect the key slot, and now nobody can just unhook it and take it right out.

It's all locked into place. To remove it, again just take the cover off so you can access the key slot, put your key in, again, it's only a quarter of a turn, and it will slide right off. Slide the pin out, and you'll be able to take out your ball mount just like that. That should do it for the review on the Tow Ready padlock style trailer hitch receiver lock for class three, class four and class five trailer hitch receivers.

Very inexpensive, strong hitch lock! Will knock the competitors out of the park. I would highly recommend this for a strong pin to hold your hitch in. I have one locking in my hitch and another locking in my ball.

I purchased this Tow Ready Trailer Hitch Lock a year ago and used it quite a bit since then. I use it on two trailers at different times, an 8500 lbs travel trailer, and a 12,500 lbs. Car hauler. Works like a charm. Keep the key cylinder mechanism lubed and no issues. Easy to use. Its sturdy and of high quality. Last, it provides a high level of security for my expensive weight distribution hitch.

Working great!

I have had the exact hitch lock on my last 5 company trucks for 16 years prior and it has worked without any problems at all, so when I bought my personal truck in February I wanted the very same one, just spray a little lube once a year and your good to go.

by:

This hitch lock works flawlessly! The gray cover over the lock keeps out dirt and corrosion even in Maine winters where road salt is notorious for causing rust and corrosion.

Tip: Occasionally squirt a little WD-40 into the lock cylinder and using the gray cover keeps it working like new!

Locking hitch pin - Excellent quality and price, but the best part is the way e-trailer handled my order. Fast and with 2 personal emails to let me know what was going on, and to check if the product was exactly what I wanted. I will sure make them my first choice on future orders.

The locking hitch pin continues to work perfectly regardless of the weather. It is a quality product!

Fit great, easy to install & fast shipp ing

Great quality lock.
Works much better
than the one it it is replacing.
Nice to be able to simply snap the lock portion into place without having to fool around with a key to unlock it first.

Comments
Great! No problems what so ever!

The lock ordered from E-Trailer was just what I needed. The price, service, website and shipping were ourstanding. I would recommend them for any needs you have for your trailer.

Comments
the lock works great and gives me peace of mind every time I take my trailer or bike hitch somewhere I have never been before. I would recommend this product with no hesitation.

This is a cargo platform assembled and attached to my 2003 Honda Element. I purchased all the items from etrailer I have to fill and load the Rola Tuffbak Cargo bag later to test it out on platform.

I want to mention, ordering all my items was easy with the help of the customer service people. Everyone I spoke to was helpful and really answered every question I had. I try my best to study and compare items before I purchase them. I assembled and installed them all as just one guy taking hos time to do that. They have great service, timely delivery, and everything I bought has been as advertised, no gimmicks, no lies, no con games. Great company and I give them 100% for everything.

Works as promised great price

by:

Great fast service every time I've ordered RV parts.

by:

Great device to deter theft plus the added piece of mind of not loosing your load due to lose of pin during transport

Comments
Still enjoying piece of mind knowing my trailer is secured anytime I had to leave unattended or hitch pin coming loose during transport.

The trailer hitch receiver lock is a very good product. I really like it an actually this is the second one I have bought. I have used the first one for a few years and it still works great.

by:

Very happy with the hitch step, was exactly as described and looks great. Would recommend for sure.

by:

This hitch setup is top notch! Very heavy duty. I went with this setup over cheaper similar options because those other 3 piece options that are similar just seemed clunky and held together by a lot pins with lose tolerances (IE recipe for wiggling and rattling), not to mention multiple stress points. This B&W unit is sleek and solid, no wiggling around, and tucks up out of the way nicely when not in use...which is more handy than you would think!

We are using this on a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn with factory air suspension.

by:

I have used this type of lock for years and like it . Needed a new one and ordered from e-trailer along with some other product's when I received it both key worked in lock, I went to install it on my truck and for some reason they would not open the lock. I sent and e-mail to my contact person at e-trailer and explained the problem and they shipped me a replacement the next day no question asked. They are great people to deal with and customer service is very good I will recommend them to everybody.

by:

Great product!

by:

It is a very nice trailer hitch lock. The thing I like best about it is due to the tapered end, it self aligns the holes in tje receiver. If it had an attachment strap to keep up with the rubber cup that goes over the lock, it would be great.

This locking hitch pin is a great value for the money. Easy to install and lock/unlock. Gives me peace of mind when I've got something in my hitch.

After a year of use Ive had no issues at all. I use this locking hitch pin a couple of times per month.

by:

Fast, efficient, and just what I ordere d.

by:

Combined this with the Curt trailer hitch and the ETrailer 20 cuft cargo bag.
Set this up on my 2016 Rav 4 and used it on a 2000 mile trip to Yellowstone. IT was a great combination. The cargo rack is quite sturdy and the ability to fold up when not in use was super handy. We encountered rain and snow on our trip and the inside of our cargo bag was always completely dry. When the bag was filled to capacity I was still able to open my lift gate with no problem.

by:

Very easy to use and great price. Will help prevent theft.

Comments
Does the job and its not a flimsy lock. Made well
Patricia - 11/21/2021

by:

That step works very well for me. But, the problem was that it got stolen. I've ordered a new one. This time with the receiver lock. It seems to work just fine

by:

Perfect for the job. We had been locking our bikes to the bike carrier and only recently realized that someone could steal the entire carrier with the bikes locked to it by simply removing the pin that secures the bike rack to the trailer hitch and taking the whole thing!

I like the way this lock operates. Simply turn the key and remove the lock. A nice feature is that the lock snaps on nicely without the key having to be installed. Also not shown is a vinyl molded cover that slides over the lock to prevent dirt, rain, etc. from getting into the lock cylinder. Very nice!

  • Can Locking Hitch Pin part # 5201 Be Used With Travel Trailer
The Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 5201 that you referenced is designed for exactly what you are looking for so it would work well. It is a hitch pin with a lock on the end that would work well with your travel trailer. Since hitch pins don't bear any of the weight of the trailer they aren't rated in terms of weight capacity. The trailer's tongue weight puts so much pressure on the hitch that the ball mount gets bound up in the hitch. Meaning the hitch pin does not ever take any of the weight.

  • Doe Locking Hitch Pin part # 5201 have a Weight Capacity
Hitch pins don't have weight capacities because they don't actually bear any of the trailer weight. The downward force of the tongue weight of the trailer is so great that the ball mount is pinned into the hitch so hard that none of the weight is put on the hitch pin.

  • Recommended Locking Hitch Pin for 2016 Ford Expedition Trailer Hitch
I was unable to find the trailer hitch number you mentioned. From my research I found that most if not all of the 2016 Expeditions came with a factory trailer hitch. You can take a quick measurement to see that the inside dimension of the receiver opening is to make sure you get a locking hitch pin that will work for you. It is likely that you have a 2-inch receiver. For a locking hitch pin I recommend part # 5201. This locking pin will work with 2-inch or 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receivers....

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock 5201 is Frozen and Will Not Unlock
There is likely some corrosion inside the lock that is preventing the mechanism from working properly. You can get some spray lubricant and spray it in the lock through the key hole and let it soak for 15 minutes and try again. If this does not work after several rounds then you will either need to have a locksmith unlock it or you may have to drill out the lock to get it off of the hitch.

  • Would the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 5201 fit a Class V Hitch
Hitch pins like the Tow Ready Reciever Lock part # 5201 that you referenced do not have weight ratings because they do not actually bear any weight, the key is to find one that is long enough for the hitch on your vehicle. The # 5201 has been confirmed to fit the dimensions of Class III, IV and V hitches so it should work well for you. I attached a review video for you to check out also.

  • Locking Hitch Pin Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Tahoe
Are you sure you need a span that large? Typically a 2 inch hitch like what you have wouldn't require nearly as much as that. For example the Tow Ready hitch lock part # 5201 (which is an excellent choice for a hitch lock has a span of 3-1/2 inches and works well on 2-1/2 inch hitches which would be bigger than what you would have. • Does the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 5201 Act as a Hitch Pin
This Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, part # 5201, will act as a hitch pin and you will not need to buy an additional one. There is also not a weight limit for this product because it will not be bearing any of the weight of your cargo carrier. The hitch and cargo carrier will bear the weight of your cargo. However, you will want to be aware of the weight capacity of the hitch and cargo carrier and be careful not to exceed the capacity of the lowest rated component. I attached a review video...

  • Can the Tow Ready Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock be Used to Tow a 5,500 lb Trailer
The Tow Ready Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 5201 that you referenced is similar to a standard hitch pin that you would use for a weight distribution system. To ensure that this is compatible for your application I have attached a photo showing that the pin diameter is 5/8" and the inside (usable) length is 3-1/2". Hitch pins don't really have a towing capacity since they aren't load bearing. As long as they are the correct fit for your trailer hitch receiver they will be able to handle...

  • Removing Draw-Tite Hitch Receiver Lock That Will Not Unlock
Before resorting to cutting off the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 5201 I recommend first trying to clean out what might be preventing the lock from working. Try applying a spray lubricant inside the lock mechanism and letting it sit for a bit. Then use the key to see if you can loosen up any rust or debris that might have built up inside. You may need to repeat this process a few times. If this still doesn't work then the easiest option will be to try and drill the lock cylinder out....
