Video Transcript for Breaking Down the 2-5/16" Hitch Ball-63836

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Draw-Tite 2 5/16 diameter chrome hitch ball, has a 14,000 pound weight capacity. Now, this hitch ball provides a connection point for your trailer's coupler. They do use the fine threads on this to provide an exceptionally tight, strong grip, and it is a durable steel construction. You can see it has a nice corrosion resistant chrome finish to it, and also, if you noticed, the flat sides here, these are built-in wrench flats that make it very easy to hold the ball in place while you're torquing the nut down. Does include the lock washer and the nut, it's all included.

Basically, when you go to install this, you'll put on your lock washer, put on your nut, and then torque it down to the correct specs. Again, the ball diameter is 2 5/16 inches, which is stamped on the top. The weight capacity is 14,000 pounds, which again is stamped on the top. Give you a few dimensions on this, we're gonna measure the shank. Now, this is designed to fit ball mount platforms that are 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/4 inch thick.

So the shank length is gonna be right at 2 3/4 quarter inches long, and the shank diameter is right at 1 1/4 inches. But that should do it for the review on this Draw-Tite 2 5/16 inch chrome hitch ball with the 14,000 pound capacity..

This product was very late in arriving but the people @ Etrailer stayed on top of it and made sure it finally got to me! They sent it using USPS the first time and finally UPS got the job done!

by:

Very helpful! Immediately notified me that the ball I had ordered was out of stock. E-trailer suggested an alternative, and expedited the order to me after I accepted.

by:

Great product, excellent service from etrailer! Thank you guys!

by:

As advertised!! all good

by:

It's a hitch ball and does the job. Nothing glamorous to report. Retired the previous hitch ball due to its age (25 years).

Its doing fine, expect many years of service

by:

The hitch ball is exactly what I was looking for. It has the wrench flats I wanted to be able to keep the ball from rotating while tightening or loosening the ball. It also has a gross tow rating of 14,000 lbs which was on the higher end of hitch balls with wrench flats. As usual, etrailer was easy to deal with.

by:

It's a hitch ball. Simple. But you do need a 1 7/8" socket to install it. And the ability to torque it to 450ft lbs.

by:

My order of hitch ball, ball mount and pin was delivered on time.

by:

I just received my ball mount receiver and ball. Great looking product. I'm excited to see how the cushion works. Torqueing the ball to 450ft lbs. was fun!!!

by:

Completely Satisfied!!! Thank You!!!

by:

I purchased this ball for my 10k lb trailer project. Although I haven't been able to use this ball yet, the quality looks to be very nice.

by:

Very substantial ball, washer, and bolt. I wish it came with more detailed installation instruction as I wasn't quite sure where the washer needed to go.

by:

Good fit. You'll need 2 - 2" wrenches and a big 3ft pipe to crank to 600 ft lbs. Best done when draw bar and head are mounted on vehicle.

by:

Very solid and fit perfectly in the hitch that I had. Haven't used it to pull the trailer, yet, but will be doing that within the next week or so. I think it will be just perfect.
Thank you for a great site with "how-to's" and for your easy ordering, conscientious follow-up, and quick processing.

by:

Hitch ball...does what its suppose to.

by:

fast service! good products !!! would buy from etrailer again.

Great ball!!!

working great....

by:

Well made, works like it should

by:

Appears well built and "feels like an A." (Back to School)
Says it's good for 14,000 lbs.
I'm pulling 12,000 lbs.
I hope I don't have to retract my 5 star rating - ever.

by:

Wonderful product! Most importantly their customer service was beyond exceptional. I ordered incompatible items and instead of just shipping them they reached out to better understand my need, and get me the right items. Every person I worked with was phenomenal! Huge shout out to Tyra F she saved my life with this move!

by:

Just as shown, good quality, fits well. Not: Requires a 2" wrench or socket and the ability to tighten to 425 ft lbs.

by:

So far so good!
No Problems

by:

Worked great. Built well

by:

nice ball, works well, needed to have a pro tighten it to the recommended foot lbs of torque(450#). most of us do not own tools this big....that cost me $5.00

by:

we received exceptional & professional service on this (our first) order

  • Difference In Draw-Tite Class IV Hitch Compared To Lower Priced Class IV Hitch
When comparing the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class IV, part # 41929, to the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class IV, part # 14361, they are similar, but the new version of the Draw-Tite # 41929 is rated higher. The Draw-Tite Class IV Hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 1,200 pounds and towing capacity of 12,000 pounds. The Curt Class IV Hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 pounds, and towing capacity of 10,000 pounds. Both part # 41929, and part # 14361 have...

  • Items Needed to Complete The RP66074 Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System
The only items you will need with the Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System are the weight distributing shank, pin and clip and a trailer hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank. Below I have provided links to these items, with current pricing, for the 12,000 pound weight distribution system.

  • Which Hitch Ball is Better, the Curt or the Draw-Tite?
Both the Draw-Tite item # 63836 and the Curt item # C40030 will work with the Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount item # AMSC4HD. The 1/8" difference in shank length will not affect the function of the hitch ball. I recommend the Curt item # C40030 because it has a slightly higher capacity and it will save you some money.

  • Why Wont etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit Fit Ford Factory 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Receiver
The reason the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kits for 2-1/2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Rise or 5" Drop # EBMK25518 (as well as 1-1/2" Rise or 3" Drop # EBMK25318) will not fit the factory 2-1/2" hitch receiver on your 2018 Ford F-350 is that those receivers have edges which are a bit rounder than standard hitch receivers and this ball mount has square edges. I recommend checking out the Titan Ball Mount for 2-1/2" Receivers # 45123 which has a 5" drop and from the accompanying photo you can see how the...

  • Recommendation for a 14,000 Pound Ball Mount for a 2011 Ford F-350 Dually
The closest ball mount we have to a 2 inch rise that is also rated for 14K is the Cushioned Ball Mount, # AMSC2HD. It has a rise of 1-1/2 inches and accepts a ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank. For a ball, you can use # 63836. Another option would be an adjustable ball mount, # C45900.

  • Availability of an Adapter to Use the Titan Hitch Extender # RP45292 with a 2 Inch Hitch
I cannot recommend either of the situations that you mentioned for safety reasons. If you were to make a reducer for the Titan Hitch Box Extension for 2-1/2 inch Trailer Hitches, 24-34 inches, item # RP45292, it would lower the weight carrying capacity of the hitch and the extension and could cause an unsafe towing condition. A solid steel bar while it seems very sturdy would most likely have less weight carrying capacity than a square tube extension like the Titan extension. The best...

The Titan Ball Mount you referenced, part # 45123 can certainly be used in the rise position. The ball mount has a 3-1/2 inch rise, and has the same 12000 lb towing/ 1200 lb tongue weight capacity when used in the rise position. This ball mount requires a trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank like the # A-90 2 inch ball or the # 63836 2-5/16 inch ball. This ball mount is not compatible with the Ford Super Duty OEM 2-1/2 inch receiver.

  • Will a Weight Distribution System Stop My 2005 Nissan Armada Truck From Sagging
Yes, a weight distribution system will help keep your vehicle from sagging when hooked up. The spring bars of the weight distribution system work to transfer the load from the tongue of the trailer to the vehicle and trailer axles. You will need to properly load your trailer so that the tongue weight is not too high and is within the limits of your towing system. This will also help keep your vehicle level. Generally your tongue weight should be within 10 to 15 percent of your gross trailer...

The closest thing that we have is the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set # 906b which you could use with the Curt Reducer Bushing for Ball Mounts # F-2. This would only get you to 10,000 lbs max towing capacity though. If you let me know what you are towing and what you're towing it with (including the type of ball mount being used) I can see if we happen to have any alternative options for your application. Otherwise you can use a chrome-plated hitch ball like part # 63836 which...

Basically you would be at the edges of this systems range that is 800 to 1,500 lbs. For a shank you would then want the part # RP54970.
