Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the 1-7/8" Hitch Ball

Today, we'll be reviewing part number 19257. This is the Tow Ready Hitch Ball with the 1-7/8-inch ball diameter, has a medium shank, and it's rated at 2000 pounds. The diameter of our shank is going to measure 3/4 inch, so in selecting a ball mount, you need to make sure that it has a ball hole diameter of at least 3/4 inch. Our shank length is going to measure 2-3/8 inches, and this is designed to fit drawbar thicknesses of 3/8 inch to 1-1/4 inches, and our hitch ball has a capacity of 2000 pounds. Now, it has a really nice chrome-plated finish, so it's going to stand up well against corrosion and rust, and it also provides wrench flats on each side of the ball at the base. That way, we can securely grip it and torque it down to the specifications from the manufacturer. The way this would work is you would take your hitch ball, place it onto the ball mount, put the lock washer on, and then, you would thread on your nut. Then, all you would need to do is torque it down to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. That's going to complete today's review of part number 19257. This is the hitch ball with the 1-7/8-inch ball diameter from Tow Ready.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2014 Chevy Impala
We have hitches that fit your 2014 Chevy Impala like the Draw Tite Class II hitch part # 36543 which is what I recommend. It installs easily and also gives you a mostly hidden solution. This is a bolt on hitch that does not require any welding. For trailer wiring our most reliable option is the Tekonsha # 118590 which I recommend for you. For a ball mount the # 36061 is the required part number and then for a ball # 19257.

  • Best Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 1999 Buick LeSabre
We currently only have one trailer hitch receiver for your 1999 Buick LeSabre which is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 36216. This option will give you a Class II hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. I have attached an installation video on a similar 1997 Buick LeSabre for you as well. If you can tell me what you will be using the hitch for I would be glad to offer some additional recommendations for you as well.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Recommendation for Towing Dirt Bike w/ 2001 Volvo V70 Station Wagon
Since you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, I'd recommend you go with the Draw-Tite # 36297. The hitch does indeed include all necessary installation hardware. In addition to the hitch, you will need a ball mount like # 36051. You'll also need a trailer wiring harness like part # C59496 and a trailer ball like part # 19257 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch size. The coupler on your trailer will have the correct ball size stamped into the metal of its coupler. I'm...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2005 Chevrolet Impala
I have another option for you but the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13315 you were looking at is only confirmed to fit select Mazda CX-5's. There is not a class III hitch available for your 2005 Chevrolet Impala so I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class II - 1-1/4" # 36407. This hitch has a 300lb tongue weight rating and 3500lb trailer weight rating so it will be perfect for carrying a bike rack, cargo carrier, or even a ball...

For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19257 and for a 2 inch use # 19258. And for trailer wiring use # 118610. I have included links to videos showing example installations of the hitch and wiring for you.

  • Choosing a Ball Mount with Enough Rise to Tow a Trailer Level with a 2014 Honda Civic Sedan
Yes, that makes perfect sense. What you are talking about is rise and drop. If the vehicle hitch is lower than the trailer coupler with the trailer level then you will need a ball mount with a rise to compensate. If the vehicle was higher the ball mount would need to have a drop. To figure out the rise you will need you can use the trailer jack to make the trailer level then measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. Then you would compare that to the hitch measurement taken...
