Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Ball - Trailer Hitch Ball - C40007 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number C40007. This is the Curt Chrome Hitch Ball with 2 5/16ths inch diameter, steel construction with a chrome finish, so it's going to offer protection from rust and corrosion. It's also going to feature the wrench flats here on the side of the platform. It's going to allow you to easily get your wrench on there and tighten to the mount and you can easily get it torqued to specifications listed by the manufacturer. The torque rating for this particular mount is indicated in the instructional tag here on the backside. It says that it needs to be tightened to 250 foot pounds of torque. The capacity on the ball is going to be 10,000 pounds.

The shank diameter, this portion here, is going to measure 1 inch. The shank length, measuring from the bottom of that platform to the end of the threaded portion, that's going to give us a measurement of 2 1/4 of an inch. It does include the lock washer, as well as the nut. That's going to do it for today's review of part number C40007. This is the Curt 2 5/16th inch Chrome Hitch Ball, rated at 10,000 pounds. .

This trailer ball is well made, the threads are cut nicely, and it fits the trailer hitch tightly. I gave it 4 start out of 5 because it does not have a terribly heavy trailer rating considering it is a 2 5/16 ball. I understood this when I ordered it, as my trailer isn't that big, and I needed a ball with a 1 inch shank. I received very good help from the salesperson on the phone, in getting my order together. All in all a good experience. PS Quality wise, for a 10,000# ball, this should probably be 5 start, but I gave it 4 stars because most 2 5/16 hitches are rated for far more than that, and for a bigger trailer, I wouldn't want the ball to be the weak link.

The ball, ball mount and pin and clip all function nicely. The Brake controller along with the wiring harness were very easy to install. Controller applies trailer brakes smoother and more effectively than any I've ever had. Order process was easy and shipping was prompt. Very Satisfied.

I purchased these items one week before a Thanksgiving camping trip. I recently bought a new camper and forgot that I needed a 2 and 5/16 ball with a hitch that supports my trailer sway system. I picked 5 to 7 day shipping (foolish) and was pleased when my order was upgraded to 3 to 5 day express shipping FREE. Everything arrived 3 days before our trip and worked perfectly. Great products and great customer service. Happy Thanksgiving to all ...

Needed a 12" drop hitch for my truck since it has quite a bit of lift. Not only did etrailer have the highest rated 12" drop hitch I could find but also the cheapest! I also ordered a 2 & 5/16ths ball that also rated at 10,000lbs. My boat and trailer loaded up is about 6500/7000 so this will def cover the pay load and then some. Shipping was very fast and everything was well boxed together. Would def recommend this company to anyone I knew.

- C40007
by:

All of the products are High quality, what I expected them to be. But even better, they came with-in a 24 hour period, and that was the best part of it all, because I was not expecting the parts to arrive until at least 5 days. As I said on my earlier review, I had searched around my town where I live, and could not find an inexpensive towing ball in the size that I needed for the right price, nor the friction sway control kit, and one could just forget about finding a sway control bracket. Thanks, again etrailer for such great service, which I truly thought, didn't exist anymore.

Received my 12" drop and ball about two weeks ago, the shipping was phenomenal ! They got it to me in two days on standard shipping. The drop works great with my 8" lift on my f250. Town straight as a arrow, and the cushion mount Smith's out any trailer slam I have felt with in the past.

- C40007
by:

I needed a 2 5/8" hitch ball with a 1" shank to fit my truck and trailer. None of the local stores carried this combination. Your store had just what I wanted and the price with shipping was no more than picking one up in the store. Your on line order process was simple and I had my equipment in just a few days! I will shop here again if I have a need.

- C40007

I purchased this ball to go with the AMSC 12 cushioned ball mount I purchased at the same time. I was tipped by other reviewers that this ball had a 1# shank and would be difficult to purchase elsewhere being a 2 5/16# ball rated at 10,000 lbs. I won't be using it for another month or so but glad I have it on hand so it will be there when I need it. Thanks to your other reviewer for this info

The Curt chrome Hitch Ball 2-5/16 - 10,000 pounds with a 1 inch shaft fits perfectly in my current 10,000 pound receiver. I am towing a 8,500 pound load with an Atwood Coupler. The coupler and ball fit each other without any problems.

- C40007

Used it to tow an empty 2500lb utility trailer with my Subaru Outback from CO springs to New Mexico. Worked great on the 380 mile trip, no problems, very heavy duty construction.

One of the few hitch balls rated at 10,000lbs... and my new trailer weighs in at 9600. Mounted cleanly. We'll find out how it works when we pick up the trailer on Saturday.

This is actually the second order I have placed and normally I don't do surveys or reviews but the quality of the parts is outstanding and both orders were delivered with in in three days. I am a first time trailer owner and picked up my trailer yesterday all of the parts fit perfect and look great. The thing I really appreciate are the step by step installation videos.

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Mount With Longer Shaft and 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball
We can get you a ball mount with a longer shaft to help keep your trailer safe. Without knowing the rise or drop you need, or the weight capacity, I can only offer a couple of general recommendations for ball mounts with long shafts. Since you have a trailer that utilizes a 2-5/16" hitch ball I assume it is on the heavier side so the best options are: - 13-1/4" Long Shaft: Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 10,000 lb Capacity # BM20 and 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40007 -...

  • Is 2 Inch Hitch Ball Okay to Use With 2-5/16 Inch Coupler
While I can sympathize with your issue, it is not safe to tow a trailer if you only have a 2" hitch ball and your trailer coupler is designed for a 2-5/16" hitch ball, even for a short distance; the insecure connection between hitch ball and coupler would pose a danger to others because of the risk of the trailer becoming uncoupled from the tow vehicle. The correct 2-5/16" hitch ball will depend on the shank diameter you need as well as capacity. Your ball mount will have a hole where...

  • How to Find a Ball Mount with the Right Rise or Drop to Tow a Trailer Level with a Ford F-150
Yes, it is likely supposed to be 2-5/16 since there isn't a 2-5/6 option. In order to choose the best ball mount for your new Ford F-150 and motorcycle trailer you will need to do just a little measuring. You want to be able to tow the trailer level so you have to measure for the rise or drop needed to do so. Measuring is easy. Park the truck and the trailer on level ground. Yes, the Curt Chrome Hitch Ball, # C40007, will just barely fit on a ball mount platform that is 7/8 inch thick. If your ball mount is 7/8 inch thick, you will have 2 or 3 threads showing past the nut, but the nut would fully engage the threads on the hitch ball shank.

There is not an exact set minimum tongue weight for the Curt Rebellion XD Shock Absorbing Adjustable Ball Mount w/ 2" part # C45949-22516 however it is not going to be very effective on a light weight trailer. We have asked Curt before about lightweight trailers between 2k and 5k and they do agree there won't be enough tongue weight to compress the cushioned isolator so you would essentially be paying for something you can't use.
