Video Transcript for Review of Curt 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Ball - A-90

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff from etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Curt two inch chrome hitch ball. With a 10,000 pound weight, gross towing weight capacity. Now this hitch ball provides the connection point for your trailer's coupler. This one you can see is a nice durable corrosion resistant chrome finish.

A few dimensions on this. The diameter and the ball is two inches. The weight capacity, which will be stamped on the top is 10,000 pounds. Now I do want to give you a few critical dimensions. So when you go to purchase a hitch ball, you do want to make sure it'll fit your ball mount.

So the one of them is the length of the shank, which is this portion here. So we're gonna measure from the bottom to the end of the shank. So the length on this one is going to be right at two and five eights inches long. The other critical measurement is the diameter to make sure it'll fit into the ball hole of your ball mount. So on this one is gonna be right at one and a quarter inches. So again, this is designed to fit a ball mount with a one and a quarter inch ball hole and the thickness of the ball mount needs to be either a half inch up to one inch thick and this will fit on there correctly.

Now, if you notice it does include the lock washer and the nut. So when you do go to install this, you'll drop this through the hole in your ball mount. Put your lock washer on, take your nut, go ahead and start it. And then tighten it down to the torque specs that are recommended. Now, the height on this ball mount once it's installed from the bottom here to the very top, it's gonna be right at two and three quarter inches from the bottom of the flange to the top of the ball.

And when you do install this, it will require a socket size of one and seven eighths inches to fit this nut. But that should do it for the review on the Curt two inch chrome hitch ball with the 10,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.

What can I say - it is a towing ball. I have a rather large landscape trailer and this is just the ball needed to pull it with some safety margin above the trailer's GVWR -- this is about the highest rated 2-in ball I have seen before jumping up to the 2 5/16" balls usually reserved for campers and other larger bumper pulls. The only negative I have seen on this is the torque rating, which is what it is. 450-ft-lbs -- you better have a [**] beefy torque wrench, be willing to buy one, or know someone who does. Given the cost of torque wrenches above 300 ft-lbs it would be a really nice option if etrailer would offer service where the ball can be delivered pre-torqued on the drop or raise shank of your choice.

I stand behind my initial review though point of clarification. I ordered the ball in 2019, posted a 1 year review in 2020. And now they are asking me for another 1 year update....well 2 years later it is still solid.

Still working great after a year mounted on our Draw-Tite 4285 Ball-Mount/draw bar. Be aware that it may require professional help to mount it to the required 450 lbs of torque. I managed to use a "cheater bar" plus torque wrench to do it myself with 75 lbs of arm strength applied to the wrench, as shown in pics. I had to support our hitch on blocks, since 450 lbs of force exceeds our hitch's 350-lb rating.

by:

Relatively basic installation with correct LARGE torq wrenches for the ball . It doesn’t take long in a nice flat parking lot. I hooked this up to tow a travel trailer on a cross country move 3500miles or so with a good share of dirt roads, Made the ride smoother and safer

Items received in good condition and was very impressed about the quality of the hitch, I am a race car builder and fabricator and know what quality is. Kind of disappointed that for the amount of money spent on a complete hitch assy. that you would not throw in a cover for the ball with your printed advertising on it so I guess its the ol' tennis ball cover for us

zero issues, no corrosion-I don't lube my trailer balls per my preference. I check it frequently for being tight and have yet to adjust it.

Still no signs of corrosion or wear.

I found the 1 1/4" hole in my hitch a bit uncommon for a 2" ball but you had the exact product I needed. It fit the hole perfectly & I'm happy with it.

- A-90
by:

The ball is perfect fit for 1-1/4 receiver hole. A couple of taps to the top of the ball to get it fully seated and yiur ready to torque the nut down. If your looking for a heavy duty ball, this is rated at 10k lbs and should do the job. I was impressed with not only fulfillment but also the speed of shipment and the price was unbeatable! Customer service was also top notch taking time to contact me throughout the order and shipping process. No doubt this will serve my purpose of hauling around my trailer used for cars, tractors, motorcycles and other miscellaneous project items. I've included a couple pictures so you can get an idea of how heavy duty this ball is built. Great buying experience all the way around.

- A-90
by:

Still looks great. Only problem I had was finding someplace where I live that would tighten the nut to the recommended torque amount. It was way higher than any torque wrench I had

After 1 year it’s in great shape and I’m very happy with the purchase and with e trailer too!

I bought this ball because of it's 10,000lb rating. I tow a compact tractor that is around 5000lbs plus the trailer adds another 1600. This gives me some cushion and more confidence in the strength of the hitch.

Simplicity is the key here. Very easy to order, customer service (Lisa D) asked a few questions about vehicle and what I needed to Tow, and like magic, she found this at a very good price which saved me $$$. It was very easy to install, heavy duty construction!! It shipped faster than other online sites could have done, a day and half later, UPS showed up with it. Back to installation, I watched the video and it worked as advertised. I never used one before, but it just works. Very satisfied.

Couldn't find a 10K ball locally, or didn't look hard enough. This went on my utility tractor so I can use my car hauler around the yard. Lots of trees down right now so I'm using it a lot.

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.

We are very happy with our trailer hitch, and all the accoutrements that we purchased with it. Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.

Great trailer ball for my use on 1985 Casitas trailer, weighing about 1300lbs. WhIle I got a shank diameter about 1/8" small, I filled space with silicone caulking to deter movement, and applied two lockwashers. Great price!

Excellent hitch for the price. Just what my minivan needed after struggling with other types. Made a big difference in pulling my 3000 lb camper. Very easy to set up. I ordered the correct 1 1/4 inch ball shank for a proper fit.

Excellent service! What is not to like about getting your items in two days! A plus ???? I got 2 inch hitch balls, they look great !!! The only slight downfall, made in China for or by Curt! Curt makes some excellent products, I hope they are keeping tabs on the factory over in China. Would rather pay extra and get one made here in But this is the world we live in so get used to it. I always question stuff coming out of China. Some high quality and some crapola. Sometimes a crap shoot.

  • Easiest to Use 10,000 lb Capacity Weight Distribution Hitch
You are right that some weight distribution hitches can be a somewhat difficult process to set up but there is one option that is much easier to use than the rest and is perfect for your trailer that has a loaded tongue weight of 900 lbs, and for that I highly recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution with Sway Control # BLU66FR. • Is it Okay if Hitch Ball on Tow Vehicle Bumper is a Couple of Inches Higher Than Trailer Coupler
Ideally, you will want both your tow vehicle and boat trailer to be as level as possible when towing. Some of this will depend a bit on the tongue weight of the trailer you will be pulling. For example, a trailer with a heavy tongue weight may actually lower the bumper on your vehicle enough when attached to reduce the difference in height you referenced in your question.
