Video Transcript for Review of Curt Trailer Hitch Ball - 2 Inch Hitch Ball - 40083

Ellen: Hey everybody, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a quick look at the CURT two inch hitch ball. If you're needing to create a ball mount for yourself, and maybe you don't already have one, this allows you to attach a hitch ball to your ball mount or replace one that's maybe worn out or damaged. Let's take a closer look and make sure that this is the right fit for you.It is going to fit into a shank diameter that has a ball mount with an inch diameter hole since that's the diameter of our shank. It measures 2 1/8" long. That's going from beneath this part to the very end of the threads. We'll take the nut off.

The nut and washer are included with this, and you want to make sure to follow the torque specs to get that tightened down properly whenever you're putting it in place. So 2 1/8" long, an inch in diameter, the weight capacity for this is 6,000 pounds. Of course, you do want to go off of the lowest number between any component in your systems. That includes your hitch, the ball mount that you're putting this onto, and also your towing vehicle. Between all those things and anything in between you want to use the lowest number of any of them. This will fit most of your platforms between 3/8" to 1 1/4" thick.

It's made out of a stainless steel construction so you shouldn't have any worries about rust or corrosion, should be really nice and strong and durable. On the sides here you can see that there are flats built in to make it easier to hold onto whenever you are torquing that down. It does have nice, fine threads on the shank to give it a really tight, strong grip with the nut. That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the two inch hitch ball. Hope this has been helpful in deciding whether this is going to be the right part for you. We do have a lot of options available here at etrailer.com for all your towing needs.

So check them out. Thanks for watching.

Review from a similar Curt Hitch Ball in Trailer Hitch Ball

Looks like a good quality tow ball. I'll never be able to tell you though. I cut the shank off to build my own trailer coupler lock for cheaper than a purpose built coupler lock. This ball plus the e98883 coupler pin lock makes my trailers secure in my yard as well as anywhere we go. Trailer can't be towed away if there is already a hitch ball locked in the coupler and there a only enough shank left to grab the ball but not enough left to hook it to a new hitch reciever. And by buying enough keyed-alike coupler pin locks, one key fits all trailers unlike previous setups I tried where each coupler lock had its own key.

What can I say - it is a towing ball. I have a rather large landscape trailer and this is just the ball needed to pull it with some safety margin above the trailer's GVWR -- this is about the highest rated 2-in ball I have seen before jumping up to the 2 5/16" balls usually reserved for campers and other larger bumper pulls. The only negative I have seen on this is the torque rating, which is what it is. 450-ft-lbs -- you better have a [**] beefy torque wrench, be willing to buy one, or know someone who does. Given the cost of torque wrenches above 300 ft-lbs it would be a really nice option if etrailer would offer service where the ball can be delivered pre-torqued on the drop or raise shank of your choice.

I stand behind my initial review though point of clarification. I ordered the ball in 2019, posted a 1 year review in 2020. And now they are asking me for another 1 year update....well 2 years later it is still solid.

Still working great after a year mounted on our Draw-Tite 4285 Ball-Mount/draw bar. Be aware that it may require professional help to mount it to the required 450 lbs of torque. I managed to use a "cheater bar" plus torque wrench to do it myself with 75 lbs of arm strength applied to the wrench, as shown in pics. I had to support our hitch on blocks, since 450 lbs of force exceeds our hitch's 350-lb rating.

Relatively basic installation with correct LARGE torq wrenches for the ball . It doesn’t take long in a nice flat parking lot. I hooked this up to tow a travel trailer on a cross country move 3500miles or so with a good share of dirt roads, Made the ride smoother and safer

Review from a similar Curt Hitch Ball in Trailer Hitch Ball

I neeed to pull a trailer with my 2019 GMC Yukon. I found Etrailer.com and followed the instructions on determining the drop of the hitch, the instructions were spot on. I hooked up my trailer to my Yukon today, all was level and worked perfectly. I had driven around to Napa, Lowe’s, Home Depot and Walmart, and nobody had the 9” drop hitch I needed. Came back to Etrailer, bought the 2” ball and pin, and the Curt 9” drop hitch. I received the items quickly. Great website, Thanks, Craig

I put a trailer hitch on my 2012 Chevy Cruze. I don't use it very often. It went on easily as did the wiring harness. I'll use it more this summer. Two thumbs up.

Review from a similar Curt Hitch Ball in Trailer Hitch Ball

I received this hitch the next day during the vivid-19 pandemic. It was very easy to install. 2020 Subaru Outback Pull the small rear panel off the bumper, remove 6 bolts and slip the hitch in between the bumper bar and the frame, tighten the new bolts in (not the stock bolts) and put everything back together. The reason there is a open hole on the hitch is because you cannot remove the bumper bar without removing the whole back end which would be a royal pain. The brake wiring connector is right on the rear part of the spare tire compartment on the passenger side. It was hard to find but it just all snapped together. Awesome product, awesome service!!

The hitch ball is a very solid product as well, but I think I ordered the wrong size for the trailer that I will be getting this Sunday. The trailer I will get has a 2" ball hitch.

Well honestly it’s just a hitch ball. The 5 stars go to etrailer and their customer service. The first ball I ordered was back ordered and I received an email within minutes of placing my order with a replacement suggestion. Always shop here first, you won’t be disappointed!

Items received in good condition and was very impressed about the quality of the hitch, I am a race car builder and fabricator and know what quality is. Kind of disappointed that for the amount of money spent on a complete hitch assy. that you would not throw in a cover for the ball with your printed advertising on it so I guess its the ol' tennis ball cover for us
