Today we're going to be taking a look at Part Number C40051. This is the CURT Hitch Ball. The Hitch Ball's going to have a diameter of 1 and 7/8th of an inch. We take a measurement of the shank diameter. That's going to give us a measurement of 1 inch and then the shank length is going to measure 2 and 1/8th of an inch. It's made of a stainless steel construction. It's going to offer a capacity of 3500 pounds.
Stainless steel is very strong and durable as well as rust and corrosion resistant. It does come with your lock washer and the nut. Then here at the base of the Hitch Ball we're going to have wrench flats. This is going to help when installing and allows you to get your wrench on there. Allows you to get a good grip, that way the ball doesn't spin when you tighten it down. It's going to allow you to easily get it torqued to the specifications listed by the manufacturer. The way this works is you'd want to place the shank through the Hitch Ball hole, on the draw bar of your ball mount.
Then on the underside of the ball mount platform you'd place on your lock washer. Then you would simply thread on the nut. Then you can get everything tightened down and torqued to specifications. That's going to do it for today's look at Part Number C40051.

Lock washer and nut included.Excellent hitch ball for the price. Great in every way with the one exception that I really wanted the hardware to be stainless steel also. I’ve bought this brand for a different application some years ago and at that time everything was stainless steel. Would have gladly paid more for the 100% stainless steel hardware. Would be especially helpful in the states where salt is used on the roads during winter.
The Curt stainless steel hitch ball is holding up extremely well, especially considering that it's being used in a salt-air / salt water environment. I would definitely recommend it and would obviously purchase it again if the need arose. Thanks for a great product at a very reasonable price!
Karl D - 01/23/2018This is the second time I have ordered from eTrailer. This time I sent an email inquiry about the correct products for my 2012 Rav4. Adam R. responded with all the detailed information with references to videos and guides for the installation. I then ordered it online ("Nicole R" handled the order) and it arrived a couple of days later. The installation was easy and the instructions were accurate. The wiring harness fit perfectly. The only difference is I ran the hot lead inside the vehicle and thru a grommet in the firewall. I also used silicon around the wire running thru the grommet to insure it was water tight.

Hitch came quickly, was in very good condition, and fit perfectly. The tapped holes in the undercarriage were a bit rusty, so I used WD-40, a narrow bottle brush, and took my time putting the bolts in, backing them off, cleaning again & oiling, until deep enough to secure the hitch. Bolts are a bit difficult to get started, so have patience. The dimensions for the cut-out were right on. I cut 3 sides, used a small c-clamp to keep the flap open while I bolted the hitch. Finally, I put the flap back and sealed it as well as possible with silicone. Saved about $300 vs dealership.

I like the ball, but the nut and washer were not stainless. I replaced them, but would have been glad to pay a bit more for a stainless ball including a stainless nut and washer.
The ball was stainless steel, but the lock washer and nut were zinc-plated steel. I thought everything would be stainless steel.
Solid and strong. Have some BIG wrenches on hand to attach it though. Nicely finished, well made.
