Weigh Safe ball mount coupled to a trailer

This Weigh Safe ball mount has an easy-to-use, built-in scale that measures your trailer's tongue weight every time you tow. If the scale indicates that your tongue weight is too low or too high, you can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your journey with the peace of mind that your setup is safe.

What is Tongue Weight?

Tongue weight (TW) refers to the weight that the fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 percent - and should not exceed 15 percent - of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-lb trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs. You can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer by removing or adding cargo, or redistributing the load on the trailer. The tongue weight should not exceed the capacity of your tow vehicle, your hitch, or any of your towing components.

Why is Tongue Weight So Important?

Weigh Safe helps ensure proper trailer tongue weight

Simply put, too little tongue weight can cause trailer sway and too much tongue weight can cause the tow vehicle to perform poorly. You may have difficulty steering, gaining traction, or braking when driving a setup that has too much weight pushing down on the rear of the vehicle. Ultimately, towing with an improper tongue weight can cause you to lose control of your vehicle or cause your trailer to separate from the vehicle.

Built-In Tongue Weight Scale

The gauge of the Weigh Safe built-in tongue weight scale

The Weigh Safe ball mount's built-in scale signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer's tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe's built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Weigh Safe ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.

Easily Adjusts to Fit Your Setup

Weigh Safe ball mount has adjustable height

Adjusting and setting up the Weigh Safe ball mount to work with your specific trailer is easy. First, unlock and pull out the dual pins and remove the platform from the shank. Next, pull out the hitch ball retaining pin from the back of the platform and insert either the 2" or 2-5/16" hitch ball. A 1-7/8" hitch ball (WSB-L - sold separately) is also available. Then reinsert the retaining pin to secure the ball to the platform. Replace the platform and slide it along the shank to the desired height. Insert the dual pins and use one of the included keys to lock the pins in place.

Weigh Safe ball mounts installed in drop and rise positions

The Weigh Safe ball mount can be used in either the drop or rise position to best suit your application.

Superior Aluminum and Stainless Steel Construction

From the first moment that you lay eyes on the Weigh Safe ball mount you'll see that you're getting a superior, well-made product. The Weigh Safe's shank and ball mount platform are made entirely of 6061 T6 billet aluminum, which is the same material that is used to build aircraft components, automobile frames, and freight liners. This type of aluminum is known for having superior strength while maintaining its light weight, which makes it highly desirable over hollow steel components. 6061 T6 aluminum is also rustproof, which means the Weigh Safe hitch will maintain its clean, shiny, and impressive appearance for years to come. And the hitch balls are made of solid stainless steel, offering far greater protection against rust and corrosion than other steel hitch balls that are only painted or plated on the surface.

The Weigh Safe ball mount meets VESC V-5 regulations and is SAE J684 certified. These regulatory bodies - the Vehicle Equipment Safety Commission and the Society for Automotive Engineers - create standards for the design, construction, and performance of automotive and towing accessories. Weigh Safe has had this ball mount thoroughly tested in simulation to ensure that it complies with these standards. The result is a strong, safe, sturdy product that is built to last.

Great hitch. Really needed the full adjustable height to handle the different trailers I own. But I did not want something hanging down below the hitch like you get with a flip over set up that would impact my ability to back up my steep drive if in the lowest position. This hitch was perfect. Plus the integrated locking pins allows me to keep it on all the time without extra locking devices.

After a year of use, it has been great

Tongue weight scale doesnt work all that well until you get more than 200lbs on it. Fairly quiet hitch though. I like the 90 degree pivot option to get it out of the way when not in use.

Tongue weight scale doesnt really work well. With a 8 to 9 inch it rather sloppy but not really noisy.

etrailer.com has EVERYTHING! This hitch is excellent! Towing safety is a must. Knowing your tongue weight is a big key to making sure that your vehicle and your load are in the "sweet spot". Too much tongue weight can cause a lack of steering control. Too little and you can cause the trailer to swing. With this hitch no scale is needed, just hook up, check the dial, make any adjustments and your off. The etrailer customer service is 2nd to none.

Been using it now for 2 years. Ive had LOTS of other hitches. This has helped with getting the tongue weight right and has helped avoid trailer sway.

Wanted a Class V adjustable hitch for my F350. The aluminum Weigh Safe 2-1/2" Hitch is just what I needed for my 2 trailers. Easy to adjust the ball height for each trailer. The 12,500 lb towing capacity is 2x over what I normally tow for a comfortable safety margin.

Looks great! Do you have any issues with the drawbar scraping the ground? How many inches of clearance do you have below it? I have a stock 4x4 F250, with about a 21.5 hitch height, and debating whether to go for the 10 or the 8 . I could use the 10 for a couple of low trailers, but worry about scraping it and weakening it when towing my big trailers that dont need as much . Thanks.
-- comment by: MotoKrome - 10/05/2015

For MotoKrome, I previously owned an F250 and it does not sit as high in the rear, about 3-4 difference. I would suggest going with the 8 . I checked the clearance on a couple of curbs with my F350 and have several inches of clearance. I especially like the tongue weight readout on the hitch.

Ordered the Weigh Safe drop ball mount WS10-25. Product I received looks used. The Weigh Safe sticker was missing and the hitch had gouge marks on the shaft and ball mount. This was probably a return item that was shipped to me. I'm very disappointed. For $309 I expect a new product, not a returned restock or used item in poor quality. First time buying at etrailer. Most likely my last.

David, I just checked your order notes and see that Christina arranged to have another ball mount shipped to you. I hope that you will continue to use etrailer.com in the future.

This hitch gives me the confidence that I have the right amount of tongue weight I need for the load I’m pulling

- WS10-25

Great product. This hitch was exactly what I needed. We do a lot of off-roading, and I bring different machines depending on what type of trip we are taking. Being able to dial in my tongue weight when I run different set ups on my trailer is worth its weight in gold. It is HEAVY DUTY, quality is top notch, and it looks great. Everyone notices it, and asks about it. Now that I've used for a year, I don't know that I could go back to using a hitch without a scale in it. It is that useful.

- WS10-25

i looked at a lot of different ball mounts for my F250 trying to find one as heavy duty as the truck with the correct amount of drop and didn't look like a 60 pound steel anval hanging from the rear bumper when I came across the WS10-25 with 14500# towing capability in stylish aluminum construction 10" drop (which is just what I needed for my enclosed motorcycle trailer) 11" rise reversible so that it stores under the bumper out of the way when not in use and The tongue weight gauge built right in I couldn't wait to get it on my truck!!

- WS10-25

Incredibly fast shipping and the WeighSafe ball mount drop hitch performed great. It is heavy duty yet light weight. I purchased this to tow an 8700 lb trailer and Jeep behind my motor home. Worked great. Money well spent.

- WS10-25

I am very pleased with my new hitch from Etrailer. It exceeded my expectations. Fit my lifted 2015 GMC 2500 perfectly. I've used it several times and my trailer pulls very well now. Almost forgot it was back there. You know quality when you see it. This hitch was made with attention to quality and detail. Well worth the investment I made.

- WS10-25

Great product and good customer service, that is actually in the continental United States. Just need to improve foam packaging, as product arrived with small damage to hardware. Please consider taller/additional foam packaging to protect your very nice product.

I ordered this hitch for my new Ram 2500. The hitch looks and functions great. It arrived in just 3 days. Cathy T was very helpful and professional. She made ordering easy. I have since ordered other accessories from etrailer.

Great! Nice to buy a product that does everything its advertised to do.

Actually thought the weighing feature was a little silly,, but I pull a24’ enclosed car hauler ,, turns out it’s a great feature for adjusting/balancing the trailer load makes it tow so much better

- WS10-25

Excellent quality, easy to use and switch ball size and height.

- WS10-25

I really like this trailer hitch. I haul different trailers. It's easy to adjust and really like the built-in scale.

- WS10-25

I’m not very impressed with this product, the claim to fame here was the built in scale and that failed after about the fourth use, I like the hitch though, so I would recommend buying the model that doesn’t have the scale in it, cheaper and more reliable. Also, corrosion seems to be a problem with this hitch, so you’ll have to keep it lubed up to slow down the process.

- WS10-25

If you have a lifted Chevy with this size receiver and your lift atleast 4”, then this is the ball mount to get. This is a great way to make sure your tongue weight doesn’t go over what the tow vehicle is rated for. Great product and looks great!!!!

- WS10-25

I was told that the weight safe was to much money. I bought one of those that has 3 balls system that was heavy chuck of steel, and it didn't have the drop I needed. The weight safe works great it has the drop I needed. And I don't need a tractor to help me put it on my truck. It's worth every penny that I paid for it. And the two people that told me weight safe was to much money has bought them a weight safe. And I also like the gage to see how much tough weight I have. Buy one you won't regret it.

- WS10-25

Great unit, has worked well. Use it for 3 different trailers and it keeps them all level.

- WS10-25

I purchased this to mate with he 25-10 hitch. It rounds out the set that includes that 2 inch and 2 5/16 ball. The combo is a perfect fit for my stock Ram 3500 4x4 (man are these trucks tall). I have the 6.4 gas engine so the 14,000 capacity of the hitch (when paired with the large ball) matches perfectly with my truck's towing capacity. I still have to watch the hitch weight though as this hitch is way more capable than the 1400 lb tongue weight on my bumper. My weight gauge differs slightly in graduation and color (mine has no green color indications to indicate a safe range or red for overload. The gauge has black and white graduations). Its not an issue, just thought buyers should know. This is a manly set of gear. Im positive that this will be the last hitch I ever purchase.

Ive now used this hitch for two trips from the east coast to the midwest. This hitch is everything I hoped it would be. Im perfectly happy with this purchase. Its the Swiss Army Knife of trailer hitches. There is nothing that requires a ball hitch that I.m not ready to tow at the of a hat.

- WS10-25

I purchased a Weigh-Safe for my stacker trailer, and found that it was an excellent tool for helping me learn the ideal way to load my trailer to reach the ideal tongue load. I eventually figured out that my 15,000# trailer needed a load distribution hitch, but I still find that the Weigh-Safe is valuable. I will use it when I have a different load, adjust for tongue weight, and then use the load distribution hitch. Quality is excellent, glad I bought it.

- WS10-25

FIRST IMPRESSIONS": WOW! This hitch is an absolute beast and, milled out of a single piece of aluminum, it is absolutely beautiful... no welds, just smooth clean lines. Ball and licking pins slide in smoothly with hardly any play. I'm curious to see if the dissimilar metals cause any sort of corrosion over the long haul. This thing makes me want to hook up my trailer and go, go, go! Shipping was fast and etrailer consistently has the most competitive prices. Customer service is always top notch! Looking forward to my next purchase from you all!!!

- WS10-25

Great product and great company to work with as we ordered the wrong size and they rushed and got it here for my Sons Birthday. A pleasure to work with and very thorough.

- WS10-25

Love the ball mount, it is almost perfect. If it had a way to eliminate the rattle in the receiver it would be perfect. The scale seems reasonably accurate and the quality to top notch, just wish it didn't rattle in the receiver.

- WS10-25

Finally! Perfection - if there is such a thing. Purchasing this ball mount kit, with the addition of the 1 7/8" ball, will allow me to sell two fixed height mounts and about 6 balls. I drive a 2017 Ram 3500 4x4 which, straight out of the box, stands very tall. I also have four different tow behind trailers of various heights. The 10" drop works well with my little 4'x6' trailer and handles all of the other trailers including the 7'x16'.

The hitch is working as designed. It is very easy to adjust the height and swap out balls of different sizes when needed.

  • Adjustable Ball Mount for 2.5 inch Hitch with Longer Shank
If you are looking for an adjustable ball mount that fits a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch, can do up to 10 inches of drop, and has a much longer shank the best option we have is the BulletProof Hitches # HD2510 as it has two hitch pins holes and one has a distance of 11 inches form the hitch pin hole to the ball hole and the other has a distance of 13 inches. It does weigh 52 lbs but that's about the average weight for a ball mount like this.

With your Toyota Tundra rated to tow 11,000 lbs, you can get a ball mount that meets or exceeds that weight, but you will also be limited by whatever your trailer hitch receiver is rated for. The lesser of those 3 numbers is what your gross towing capacity will be. Based on your 6 inch lift, I'd recommend an adjustable ball mount with at least an 8 inch drop. If you have a 2 inch receiver, then I'd suggest the EZ Heavy Duty Adjustable Hitch with Combo Ball, # AM3298. This hitch has...

  • Weight Safe Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for 2018 Ram 2500 4x4 Off Road Edition
I'd go with the 10 inch drop version of the Weigh Safe part # WS10-25 that you referenced. It's pretty common to see trailer coupler heights around 15 inches and this would get you a drop right at that height. It's possible you wouldn't ever need that much drop but if you are buying an adjustable ball mount to basically cover all possibilities you may as well get one you know is going to work for everything.

  • Recommendation for Choosing Adjustable Ball Mount for 2017 Chevy Silverado
When determining the rise or drop needed for a ball mount, there are two measurements you will want to take. Starting with your 2017 Chevy Silverado, you will want to take a measurement from the ground to the top of the trailer hitch receiver when the truck is on level ground. Then on your trailer, you will measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the hitch height on your truck is higher, you will need a ball mount with a rise, if the coupler measurement is higher, you...

  • 10 Inch Drop Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for 2-1/2 inch Hitch
Some adjustable ball mounts will have a bit of play in them which is the movement you described, but the # WS10-25 that you referenced would fit tight to your hitch and would not have much play at all at the ball mount platform. All of our the customer reviews on this ball mount were positive with no mention of play or noise.

  • Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 3 inch Lift
If you went with an adjustable ball mount that had about 8 inches of drop you'd have your bases covered for the most part. Some trailers are as low as 17 inches and some around 20. But it really does just depend on what you plan to tow. The Weigh Safe Ball Mount part # WS10-25 would work if you had a 2-1/2 inch hitch as it has a 10 inch drop, but if you have a 2 inch hitch instead you'd want the # WS8-2 most likely as it instead has a drop of 8 inches and fits a 2 inch hitch.

  • Black Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation That Can do 9-1/2 inches of Drop
We have a ball mount very similar to the # WS10-25 that you referenced that is black. For that check out the B and W Tow and Stow part # BWTS10043B. This ball mount has a 10k capacity and can do a similar amount of drop at 9-1/2 inches. What's really nice about this ball mount is that the ball platform can be easily flipped around to the other side of it's shank when not in use so that it is out of the way. If you have never banged your shins on a ball mount before it's a less than pleasant...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for 2-1/2 Inch Hitch on 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty
The ball mount I highly recommend for your 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty that has a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver like the Curt # C15802 is the B&W Tow & Stow because of its high quality, stow-away design, and the fact it protects the ball mount platform from theft. The hitch ball platform of this mount actually flips underneath the shank to face your truck, saving you from accidentally slamming your leg into it when walking behind your F-250. Additionally, when the Tow & Stow is in your...
