Video Transcript for Manufacturer Discussion with Patriot Hitches The Captain 5-Way 3-Ball Mount

Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. Today, we're with Scott from Patriot Hitches, and he's brought some products along. We're gonna take a little bit closer look at The Captain. Yes, sir. How you doing, neighbors Scott McCuskey here with Patriot Hitches. So today, we're gonna talk about, briefly, The Captain.

This is a hitch that etrailer is currently carrying, this is what we call our five-in-one. This is rated, each one of these balls, 2 5/16, two inches, inch and 7/8 are all stamped accordingly, 10,000 pounds, 6,000 pounds, 3,500. So what we did in addition to the multi ball that you may be familiar with, we patented the idea of adding a utility shackle to it. So the multi ball is familiar, been around for a while, but we actually hold the patent for the idea of mounting a shackle to this. So in addition to that, we took it one step further, so if the four-in-one hitch with the utility shackle wasn't enough, we incorporated a pintle lock.

So now, we have a five-in-one hitch. So all three standard balls, utility shackle with a 30,000 pound rating, and a pintle lock, you have a five-in-one hitch. So this is a hitch that's readily available on your site. It's truly all you need in a hitch, you got everything, yeah It really is. So, you know, all of our hitches, you know, independently for their function that they are in the application, it really is, and that again is our tagline trademark, this all you ever need in a hitch.

What more do you need Three balls, utility shackle, a pintle hitch, you're set, they're all you need in a hitch. So alternatively, if you needed different ball sizes for different trailers or a utility hook or pintle hook, anything like that, you would have to have individual ball mounts. This right out the gate, one and done. One and done, all you ever need in a hitch, absolutely. Awesome, thank you, Scott.

No, my pleasure, thank you. Appreciate it. Thanks again.

Like the products versatility. Its sturdy , looks great. Packaging for shipping could be much better. Just a cardboard box, no packing. The box was pretty torn up and the red pin clip was missing. Very happy with the product ,I tow several different trailers. Its nice to have one solution everything o

  • Do You Carry The Patriot Hitches Adjustable Receiver In a 10,000LB Capacity?
The Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter # PH67SR in the 7,000lb capacity is the only capacity we currently carry. For 10,000lbs from Patriot Hitches we have their Captain # PH34FR. We do have the Gen-Y Shank # 325-GH-304 rated for 10,000lbs with its stacked 2" receivers as an option.

  • Can 2018 Ram 1500 Class IV Trailer Hitch Safety Chain Loops be Used for Recovery
Great question. You are correct that the tow hooks for a 10K Class IV hitch on your 2018 Ram 1500, like the Curt # 14374, are designed to hold the tongue of the trailer via the safety cables in a worst-case scenario. Since the trailer would be uncoupled in this kind of scenario the safety cables, and likewise the safety chain loops, need to be rated high enough to handle the weight of the trailer for an emergency stop. Manufacturers don't rate the chain loops for weight since they are...

  • What Is The Weight Capacity Of The Patriot Hitches The Captain 5-Way Ball Mount PH34FR
Hey Barac, that is a great question. I am really not sure why the Patriot Hitches site would list a 30K rating for a ball mount for a 2" hitch since no 2" hitch is rated even close to that. It seems like they just picked their highest possible weight rating and slapped it on every part of the ball mount. In my opinion putting a 30K rating on a 1-7/8" hitch ball is just silly unnecessary overkill. Most 1-7/8" ball couplers are rated for no more than 3,500 lbs, so the 30K rating they list...
