See what our Experts say about this MaxxTow Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • Recommended Extended Ball Mount or Hitch Extender for Towing Boat Trailer
For your 2018 Tahoe and boat trailer needing a longer extension between them I recommend the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 13-1/4" Long - 10,000 lbs # BM20. Having a longer ball mount like this will not reduce the capacity of your hitch at all. This will give you a length of 13-1/4 inches from the center of the ball to the hitch pin hole. For a compatible hitch ball the shank needs to be 1 inch diameter for this mount. I recommend the 2 inch ball # 40038 or...

  • Ball Height for Pulling a 2016 Coachmen Clipper with a 2004 Honda Pilot
You want the trailer to be as level as possibel when towing. To figure out the correct rise or drop you need with your 2004 Honda Pilot measure from the ground to the inside top of the trailer hitches opening with the vehicle parked on level ground. Then measure from the ground to the underside of the trailer's coupler with it level as well. The difference between the two tells you how much of a rise (the trailer is higher than the vehicle) or a drop (the vehicle is higher than the trailer)...

  • Can Curt Ball Mount C45100 be Safely Used to Tow 3,500 lb Trailer is Rise Position
Great question, and I think you're on the right track. Even though the Curt Ball Mount # C45100 is rated for 3,500 lbs towing/350 lbs tongue while in the rise position, I like to have some kind of safety margin so that I'm not constantly checking to make sure the ball mount is holding up. For your application I recommend the MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount # MT70068 because the weight ratings are 5,000 lbs towing/500 lbs tongue whether you are using it in the rise or drop position....

  • Recommended Ball Mount for a Rise of 18 inches When Installing Draw-Tite # 75720 on a 2002 Odyssey
The height of the trailer hitch when we measure for the videos can vary based on the year of the vehicle, inflation of the tires, or even how much cargo is loaded in the vehicle so the numbers we give are good to use as an estimate. If you check out the attached video of the Draw-Tite # 75270 being installed on a 2003 Honda Odyssey you can see that the ground to hitch height it 12 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rearmost edge of the bumper is only 4-1/2 inches. • Will Stabilizer Jack Leg Fit in MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount
I went to take some measurements for you and found the leg of the Square Drop Leg Stabilizer Jack # SJ-R208 measured 1-1/4" outside to outside of the leg itself and 1-1/2" for the mounting bracket. The tube portion of the MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount # MT70068 that accepts the ball mount measures about 2-1/2" from outside to outside and 2-1/8" inside to inside. So the stabilizer jack leg would physically fit inside the ball mount; the only issue is that the pull pin from the stabilizer...

  • Does Longer Shank of MaxxTow Adjustable-Height Ball Mount MT70068 Affect Capacity of Hitch
The MaxxTow Adjustable Ball Mount part # MT70068 does come with a pretty long shank. But the only real thing at risk will be your shins. The added length does put a bit more leverage on the hitch, but it does not negatively affect the capacity of the hitch. In a lot of situations where a short trailer is being towed adding length can make it easier to back up.

  • Choosing a Ball Mount with the Right Drop to Tow a Trailer Level with a 2004 Chevy Tahoe
Since you had them measure to the top of the coupler and not the bottom, the trailer will actually be a little lower than the vehicle by however tall the coupler is from the point they measured it. Those rental trailers are usually fairly low too. But since nothing is certain the best option is an adjustable ball mount such as # MT70068 rated for 5,000 pounds. This ball mount has a maximum rise of 6-1/4 inches, minimum of 1-3/4 inches, and maximum drop of 7-1/2 inches, minimum of 3 inches....

  • Why Aren't Adjustable Ball Mounts Made for 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch
I really wish we did, but we do not have any adjustable ball mounts that fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch like the # MT70068 that you referenced. The added length and leverage of the adjustable ball mounts is why they aren't made for the lighter duty 1-1/4 inch hitch size. You'd have to go with a fixed ball mount with the correct rise/drop. I attached a help article that covers how to pick this out as well.
