dimensional diagram

This unique adjustable ball mount from Gen-Y Hitch has a vertical shank that is made up of 4 stacked 2-1/2" receivers. This lets you easily adjust the height of the included ball mount, or any other accessory you choose to use. This mount also has built-in shock absorption to ensure a safe, smooth towing experience. Using technology similar to that found in torsion trailer axles, the Gen-Y mount absorbs road shock, isolating any rough jarring or chucking at the connection point. This prevents the rough motion from transferring from the vehicle to the trailer and vice versa.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Driving over bumps, potholes, and uneven terrain causes road shock, which can result in a rough, bumpy ride and even potentially damage your vehicle or trailer. This Gen-Y Hitch torsion mount is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the mount, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

torsion w/cutaway

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y mount. This allows for movement between the base, which slides into your vehicle's trailer hitch, and the stacked receivers, which provide the connection point for your trailer. When your trailer hits a bump, the stacked receiver portion of the mount will move up or down accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y mount are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the receivers rise or fall, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the receivers' motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

This type of shock-absorption system is easy to maintain. Just regularly apply grease to the built-in zerk to keep the components in working condition. No airbags to fill. No small parts to repair or replace. No hassle.

Multiple Stacked Receivers for Easy Adjustment

stacked receivers

This unique mount from Gen-Y Hitch includes a ball mount that can be easily positioned in one of the 4 stacked receivers that sits along the vertical shank of the unit. This dual-ball mount lets you tow a trailer with a 2" ball coupler or a 2-5/16" ball coupler.

pintle hitch

Also included is a pintle lock, which can be inserted into the receiver directly above the ball mount to create a pintle hitch for hooking up a trailer with a lunette ring. Unlike other adjustable pintle hooks on the market, there are no nuts and bolts to remove and retorque when you change the positioning of this hitch. Just move the ball mount and pintle lock up or down to get the proper height and secure them in place with the included pins.

Video Transcript for Review of Gen-Y Hitch Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Adjustable Ball Mount - GY79FR

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we take a look at this Gen-Y wide Torsion 2-ball mount with the stacked receivers for a 2 1/2 inch hitch, has a 32,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this is an adjustable ball mount. This'll let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. Back here, it has this solid shank that'll slide into a 2 1/2 inch hitch receiver on your vehicle. And then up front, you have your choice of either a 2 5/16 diameter ball or you flip it over to a 2 inch diameter ball.

These will provide the connection points for your trailer coupler. Also included with this part number is this pintle lock accessory right here. Now, when this is paired with the larger 2 5/16 diameter ball, it'll provide a connection point for a lunette ring coupler and the lunette ring couplers are the large heavy-duty trailers that have the large ring in the front. Basically that ring drops up over the ball and then to hold it in place, is this pintle lock. So I just wanted to show you.

If I pop up that insert, you'll be able to see the lunette ring coupler there over the ball and then this pintle lock, holding it in place. And basically the way you would operate that is just take off your clips, take out your pin, slide this out of the way and then go ahead and connect to the lunette ring. Once you drop that lunette ring coupler over there then you slide this over the lunette ring, line it up with your hole, take your pin, slide it through, put your clip in to secure it. And then just like that, that'll lock that ring over the ball, keep it from being disconnected. If you're not gonna use it with the lunette ring coupler, you can also store it away.

There's a second hole in here that if you push this back far enough, you can store it in the shank and it'll keep that pintle lock out of the way. And then you can use the balls for just a regular trailer coupler connection. Go ahead and put the clip back on. There we go. Now the capacity on this is gonna be determined by the ball size you use.

So if you use the larger 2 5/16 diameter ball, gives you a gross towing weight capacity of 32,000 pounds, maximum tongue weight of 3,500 pounds. If you flip this ball mount over and use the smaller 2 inch diameter ball, it'll give you a gross towing weight capacity of 16,000 pounds, maximum ton weight of 1500 pounds. Now, if you notice it has the four stacked receivers, these are 2 1/2 inch size receivers. They will accept the included ball mount and the pintle lock as well as other hitch mounted accessories, comes with the two 3/4 inch diameter stainless steel pins with the clips. These are included to secure the ball mount to the shank and the pintle lock to the shank. And I wanted to mention this clip they use, it's a twist clip, it's a really unique design. It's a lot easier to install and remove than your standard clips that you'll see on pins. This one you can see has a twist to it, and the way you remove it is just twist it and it'll move just like that, slide your pin out, and then when you install it back in you just put it into the hole there and then push it. And then as you push it, it'll twist into place. Very easy to install or remove. Now, the adjustable height right here, this will let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle, works well if you have a lifted truck. And this ball mount can basically be put in any one of these locations. They can be lowered or raised to match your application. If you put this, right now, it's in the drop position, so if you put it this way, and then put this in the lowest position, it'll give you a maximum drop of 6 inches. If you flip this over, the shank into the rise position, and put this in the highest position, it'll get you a maximum rise of 6 inches. But just to show you how to move the ball mount, same way, you just move the clip, remove the pin, and then all you have to do is slide your ball mount out just like that. If you wanna flip it over and use the smaller 2-inch ball, and then like I said you can put it in either one of these. We're just gonna put it right back in the same location, line the hole up with the pin. Once you get that hole lined up just like that, slide it through, take your clip again, put it in the hole, push it. And just like that it's installed. And now you've switched over, flipped it over to the 2-inch size. Now this is a shock absorbing design, ensures a nice, smooth, steady ride. The technology on this will function just like a torsion axle. It'll limit the transfer of road shock from the trailer to the vehicle and vice versa. And what's nice about this, there's no airbags that you have to maintain and it uses fewer moving parts that might have to be repaired or replaced than with some of those other shock absorbing solutions that are out there. Now, the other nice feature on this, this offers a tongue weight scale, which is built in to help you balance your trailer and to show you that, we're gonna zoom in and right over here, if you notice, there's your tongue weight scale. This built-in mechanical tongue weight scale lets you know if the load needs to be adjusted before you tow. If you notice at the top, it has a small red area. That small red area indicates the minimum tongue weight of zero pounds. You can see the white marker here is pointing to that right now, 'cause there's no load on it. The larger red area right down here, that's gonna indicate the maximum tongue weight of 3,500 pounds. So the thing is when you get this all loaded and hooked up, that white marker should be put pointing or marked into this green area. That green area means the tongue weight scale is right where you want it. The ideal working tongue weight is between 2000 and 3500 pounds. So you want that white marker to be in that green area. Now this is a nice heavy-duty steel construction. They use a zinc primer on it and then a nice powder coat finish on it to resist corrosion. Now right here, there's two hitch pin holes. It does require a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock for securing it to the hitch receiver. Those items are not included. You would have to supply those or we do sell them separately. It does offer two different size hitch pin holes. The front one is 5/8 of an inch. The back one is larger, 3/4 of an inch. This is SAE J 684 certified. It is made in the USA. Application, again, fits 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch trailer hitch receivers. And the last thing I do wanna mention on this, this ball mount does have many different dimensions to it. So what I do recommend for you to do is go to the product page of this part number and we'll have a picture of this with all the dimensions on it. And then you can verify any dimension that you might need for your application. But that should do it for the review on the Gen-Y Torsion 2-ball mount with the stacked receivers for a 2 1/2 inch hitch, has a 32,000 pound gross towing weight capacity..

Looks like very high quality hitch. Cant wait to try it out. Not for removal when not in use unless you need a good workout! Shipping weight is 120 pounds!

by:

Wish it came with 2 locking pins instead, even if it cost more. Makes a difference pulling equipment or dump trailers full of dirt or concrete. Almost dropped a star because all the attention it gets.

I love this heavy duty--emphasis on HEAVY--hitch! I barely felt my trailer on my truck while driving it was so smooth! The only drawback is how heavy it is... It is a bit of a feat for me to lift and insert then remove this hitch at the end of a race weekend--but I feel it is well worth it!

I did my research before ordering. I know exactly what I need and want. My boat trailer tongue weight is 750lbs so I went with the Gen-Y Torsion Flex 2" Hitch - 7.5" Drop/Rise 10k. (Works Best with 400-1,000lbs tongue weight). Also got the BEST price due to their 110% Price Match Guarantee.

It works great. Highly recommend, but beware of two things: price and weight. It’s not cheap, and it weighs roughly 90 pounds.

Tows like a champ. The ride is so much smoother while towing.

Comments
The shock absorber feature only works when the trailer has significant tongue weight. Granted, when I have a heavy load, it’s nice, but when I have an empty trailer, it’s like any other hitch. Also, it sets off my backup sensor alarm. My other hitches don’t do that. I wouldn’t buy it again.

Review from a similar Torsion Ball Mount in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

I have yet to tow with this hitch because I just received it today. Upon receiving the box I knew this hitch was not for the faint of heart. It felt like a massive hitch weighing in at 118lbs. Taking it out of the box I could see that this hitch is built like a beast and will likely be more hitch than I will ever need, but I needed a drop hitch and after asking etrailer questions and doing my own extensive research, I decided this was the hitch I should buy. I like the fact that it will give a little more space between the trailer and the truck, it can be used as a pintle setup if the need arises, and it comes with two ball sizes. Using this for my enclosed landscape trailer I am hoping it extends the life of tires and suspension components. I will try and update in the future after towing with this hitch.

Comments
Product is still amazing. Really takes the bounce out of trailering. It’s almost like the trailers aren’t there. The real noticeable difference is my dump trailer when it’s loaded up. You can really notice the difference between this hitch and a regular hitch. Just in comfort it’s worth the money.

This hitch helps a lot with the jerk caused by a bumper pull trailer. There is still some backlash between the pickup and trailer but I've excepted that you are going to have that with a bumper pull trailer. Thanks

Review from a similar Torsion Ball Mount in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

This hitch is a beast. You will not need any more hitches; last you will buy. When received the packaging was a little damaged. I suspect this is due to the overall weight. I figure the hitch alone is about 75-80 pounds. I tow trailers almost every weekend. My enclosed car trailer weighs in at about 10K pounds. My Ram 3500 DRW would buck slightly due to all the road construction. First tow was for about 160 miles. Not once did I feel any push or bucking. If you tow a lot, this is your hitch. Little pricey but worth it.

Bought this hitch a year ago for my new car hauler trailer. I used a standard hard hitch for a few months before deciding to bite the bullet and purchase this hitch. This completely eliminated the hard bumping the trailer would give the truck on some of the rough roads in Missouri

Review from a similar Torsion Ball Mount in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

This receiver hitch is amazing. Most of all, I appreciate the safety, performance and limited wear and tear it provides to my family and the truck. One thoughtful suggestion, would be to include the lifetime warranty for the hitch rather than having to pay additional for it. Unfortunately, did not purchase the warranty in faith that our USA built product will not need any repair. Thanks again!

Great heavy duty adjustable ball mount. The only negative is lifting it to put it in the receiver... It's heavy! One unit does the work of 3 pieces that I used to have to carry with me.

Review from a similar Torsion Ball Mount in Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

I bought the hitch because I frequently tow my 24 foot toyhauler down some pretty rough stretches of interstate highway. Its the kind of highway that when a trailer is attached to your truck, it drives the tow vehicle up and down like a fast yo-yo. I think the hitch helps a little but not nearly as much as I had hoped.
