Video Transcript for Review of Gen-Y Hitch Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Adjustable Ball Mount - 325-GH-1725
Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Gen-Y adjustable 2-ball mount with the stacked receivers for a 3-inch hitch. It has a 32,000-pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this adjustable ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion, right back here, will slide into your 3-inch hitch receiver on your vehicle, and up front you'll have a choice of a 2-inch diameter ball or a 2-5/16 diameter ball which will provide the connection point for your trailer coupler.
Now they do also include this pintle lock accessory when this is paired with the larger 2-5/16 diameter ball. It provides a connection point for lunette ring coupler. And just to describe the lunette ring coupler, if you're not familiar with it, but basically if your trailer has a large ring on it and it's a lunette ring, a lot of the heavy duty large trailers use a lunette ring. It'll drop over the ball, but to keep it hooked to the ball, they include this pintle lock.Basically what you would do is just pull the pin, slide this pintle lock back, and then drop your lunette ring over the ball. Once it settles down in here, you just slide your pintle lock over that lunette ring to keep it from coming off, and then just put the pin back through.
Put your clip in there to lock it into place, and that pintle lock will keep your lunette ring hooked up to your ball. Now, in a situation where you're not using the lunette ring coupler, if you're just going to hook up a regular coupler, all you have to do is just pull that pin, slide it back to the other hole, and once you find the other hole there, slide your pin through, clip it, and when you do that it'll keep that pintle lock out of the way like that back here and then you can use it for any other normal coupler. If you notice, it has the 5 stacked receivers. They are 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch receivers. They will accept the included ball mount and the pintle lock like we showed you, as well as other hitch-mounted accessories. It does come with the two 3/4-inch diameter stainless steel pins and the clips.
They are included to secure the accessories to the shank. And what I wanted to speak about is these twist clips. They're a pretty unique design. They're really nice because a normal clip, you know, would just have the straight, and then when you go to put them in there, it's hard to push it on there. With this one being a twisted design, you can see all you have to do is put it this way and then just push it.
And as you push it on, it'll twist and hold it into place, and what's nice is to remove it, all you have to do is twist it and you twist it right off. So it doesn't take a hard push to put it in or hard pull to take it off. It's very easy with this nice twisted clip design. Now the stacked receivers will give you an adjustable height to let you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. Works well if you have a lifted truck. A ball mount can be lowered or raised to match your application, and then this will give you a maximum drop if you put this in the lowest position. It'll give you a maximum drop of 12 inches. If you flip if over and put it at the highest position it'll give you a maximum rise of 12 inches. This is a nice heavy duty steel construction. It has a nice zinc primer and then a powder coat finish it to resist corrosion. Now when you do install this into your 3-inch hitch receiver it will require a hitch pinning clip or a hitch lock for securing it to the hitch receiver. Those items are not included. We do sell those separate on our website. If you notice the 2 hitch pin holes here, they give you an option of either a 5/8-inch diameter and a 3/4-inch diameter hitch pin hole diameter. Now this will meet the SAE J684 certification. It is made in the U.S.A. Again, the application, this fits a 3-inch by 3-inch trailer hitch receiver. Full capacity on this will depend on the ball size you use. If you use the larger 2-5/6 diameter ball, gross towing weight capacity is 32,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 3500 pounds. If you use the smaller 2-inch ball diameter, gross towing weight capacity is 16,000 pounds, maximum tongue weight of 1500 pounds. Last thing I want to do is give you some dimensions, and I'll show you how you can flip the ball over. We're going to give you the height, which will be measured from the very bottom here to the very top. So that'll measure 15-3/4 inches tall. The length from the very back here to the very front of the ball mount is going to be right at 17-3/8 inches, and from the back to the very front right there is going to be right at 13 inches. So if you do want to flip it around, it's pretty simple. Instead of using the larger ball, if you want to flip it to the 2-inch ball, same way. Just pull your clip right out, take your pin out, and then what you'll do is slide this out. Now I'm just going to flip it over and slide it back into where it goes, but as I mentioned, you can put it into whatever height you would need. So once we get that in there, slide it into place, line up your pin with the hole, and put the nice twist clip on and you're all ready to go. Just like that you flipped it over to the smaller one, so it's pretty simple to either move it up or down, or choose the ball size that you need. But that should do it for the review on this Gen-Y adjustable 2-ball mount with the stacked receivers for a 3-inch hitch with a 32,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.
