Video Transcript for Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with Stacked Receivers Review
Hey, everybody. Today, we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the line of Gen-Y adjustable two ball mounts for two inch hitches. So our Gen-Y ball mount here is going to be an adjustable ball mount. Now adjustable ball mount is going to be a great option for pretty much any truck, as opposed to a fixed ball mount, where we would just have the correct rise and drop for one particular trailer. If we have multiple trailers or we're going to be towing a friend's trailer, pretty much any situation where we're going to be telling more than one trailer, you're really going to want to look into an adjustable ball mount. The reason why is it allows us to adjust the rise and drop here depending on our particular application at that time.
So what's really unique about the Gen-Y adjustable ball mount compared to just any other adjustable ball mount on the market is that we have these multiple stacked receivers. So the number of stacked receivers we're going to have is going to vary depending on which particular option we go with. But what's great about having multiple openings is, say, our truck was sitting a little bit higher and we could utilize one of these lower two openings here. We'd actually have a free one at the top here, and this can be used for a bike rack or a cargo carrier when we're really trying to load up the truck with as much things as possible to have to the campground. We want to hit the trails every now and then as well.So all of our Gen-Y ball mounts are going to be made of heavy duty steel construction. Now I'm sure right when you pick up the box, you're going to notice how heavy duty this thing is because I can be honest with you.
They're not light. However, this isn't a bad thing because you know you're getting a durable, well-made product. They're actually all made right here in the USA. And something else I really like about the Gen-Y ball mounts is we see the finish here. Now, this finish is super, super durable.
I've dropped these things multiple times. I've banged them into things and it really just doesn't come off. It has this nice hammered finish, which again, looks really well, helps blend in with the vehicle and holds up in due time.So we talked about the heavy duty steel construction. What plays into this is weight capacity. Pretty much, no matter what trailer we hook up, we're not going to have any issues with weight.
The two-inch hitch version is going to be rated from 10 to 16K depending on your particular model. We are going to get two hitch pin and clips that come with our kit here.If you're using it for a lunette ring, and you're going to be using the pencil lock, you're actually going to purchase an additional hitch pin because it's only going to come with two, but if you're just using it for a trailer in the standard application, you can see here, we're going to have all the hitch pins that we need. However, I highly highly recommend that you guys look into a locking hitch pin and clip so we can protect our ball mount from theft. We also have sets of these locking pins that we could have a key that is the same for the hitch as it is for the adjustable ball mount portion. So here's everything we're going to get with our ball mount. The first thing we're going to notice here is our stacked receivers. Now these are going to be available in a wide range of different rise and drops such as those that offer up to a five inch drop all the way down to a 15 inch drop. The number of stacked receivers is going to vary depending on how much drop we need. Now, in order to make sure you get the correct one for your particular trailer, or if you have multiple trailers, we need to take some measurements. The first measurement we'll be taking is from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube. Then we'll have to come over to our trailer here. We first want to level our trailer using the tongue jack, and then we'll measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the coupler. Now, the difference in these two measurements, if the hitch on the vehicle is going to be higher than that on a trailer, we'll need a drop. Whereas if the hitch on the vehicle is going to be lower on the trailer, we'll meet a rise.So that's how you're going to be able to determine the correct rise/drop needs that you'll need to look for in ball mount. Keep in mind, we can get a little bit more than we think we need, because that will allow us to tow multiple trailers, but you also need to be careful that we don't go too long, because then you could run into ground clearance issues. So as we see now we have a good amount of space here but wouldn't really want to get any more of a drop because then we would actually run into issues with the stacked receivers, hitting the ground or bottoming out.So the other thing we're going to get with our kit here, we have this two ball mount that's integrated into one piece. Therefore, we're going to be able to tow trailers with a two-inch coupler or a 2 5/16 inch coupler, which will pretty much cover the vast variety of trailers that is on the market. Also in our kit here, we're going to get a pencil lock. So this is definitely going to be useful if we're towing any trailers, such as the agriculture or military trailers that have that lunette ring. We're going to be able to utilize and pull those trailers with everything here in our package. We don't need to purchase anything separately. And then lastly here, we're going to get two hitch pin and clips here, which are these standard 5/8 inch diameter. So now that we've shown you everything that comes with, let's go ahead and show you how to use it. We'll first start here by taking our stacked receiver and inserting it into the hitch on our vehicle. Now, as you'll notice, we have two hitch pin holes here, and this is really going to be for accommodating different trailers, different trailer hitches rather in regards to the pin hole depth. Now we're going to try to use the one closest to the end. That way we get as much of the shank inside the receiver tube as possible. Once we have that lined up, we'll take our hitch pin here, insert it through, and then follow that up with our clip. Now we're going to be using the measurements that we took earlier, so we can make sure that we install the hitch ball into the correct stacked receiver here. That way we can get the correct rise and drop and tow our trailer level. So once you determine this, you also want to make sure that we're using the appropriate size hitch ball. This trailer here has a two inch coupler, so we're going to be using the two inch hitch ball. We'll go ahead and insert the hitch ball assembly now, and again, lineup our holes and insert the pin through. Now we can lower our coupler onto the hitch ball. We'll then hook up our safety chains and our electrical connector, and now we're ready to hit the road.So in summary, the Gen-Y Adjustable Ball Mount is a really nice option for any truck. If you have a lifted truck, they're definitely going to be ideal for this due to the wide range of drops that they offer. Also, if you really trying to load up with as much gear as possible, it's going to be a perfect option for you because you have these extra accessory hitch holes. So we're really going to be well-equipped for pretty much any application, hit the road, hit the trails, hit the campsite. We're going to be able to load everything up here without having to worry about any additional adapters. And that'll do it today for our look and installation of the line of Gen-Y adjustable two ball mounts for two inch hitches..
