I had no idea a regular old slide receiver ball mount wouldn't work for for my trailer. It turns out that my old reese ball mount from Wal-Mart was underrated and thus cracked within 2" of the ball. Thanks etrailer for making hitch grade easy to understand and potentially saving me and my family's life. 292874

WOW! I wanted to purchase a really strong ball mount and this one exceeds my expectations! I also purchased in my order the folding wheel chocks which were made of metal. My plan is to mount those permanently on my car hauler trailer so that when I put the car on, I just drive up against these chocks. This makes loading my car super easy. I really like doing business with etrailer because every order I’ve ever placed his arrived quickly and been with products that are excellent quality. 711219

  • How to Pick Out the Correct Rise/Drop Ball Mount to Tow a Trailer Level
The amount of drop you would need for a ball mount to use with your 2012 Range Rover Sport will depend largely on the trailer you plan on towing. The goal is to pick a ball mount that will allow your trailer to be towed as level as possible. To see how to pick out the correct ballmount rise/drop check out the FAQ article I attached to the right. It covers everything. Once you know what drop you need I also attached a link to the right that has all of the ball mounts we carry. You will...

Another ball mount that uses a 1-1/4 inch ball shank is part # 40331. This features a 3 inch rise or 4 inch drop. We do not offer an adjustable ball mount that can accommodate a hitch ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank.

  • Square Corner Ball Mounts Will Not Fit in Factory Trailer Hitch to 1993 Ford F-250 Diesel
What you are describing is a common problem with some factory hitches. You are correct, you do not want to grind away any of the metal of a ball mount to get it to fit. Removing some of the powder coat is acceptable provided you do not also remove any metal. What I recommend is looking for a ball mount with the more rounded corners. A ball mount like # BM20 has more rounded corners but it is rated for 10,000 pounds whereas the mount you referenced is rated for 16K. Cushioned ball...

  • Can the End of a Ball Mount Be Trimmed Down to Fit in a Trailer Hitch on a 1999 GMC Yukon
Part of what gives ball mount # 40330 its capacity is the amount of material inside of the receiver. By trimming it down it makes the capacity unknown and could compromise the structural integrity of the ball mount. Also, it is a solid steel shank so trimming it is no small task! The best option is a new ball mount that is a better fit. I recommend B&W ball mount # BWBMHD30010.
