With good information from the website it was easy to order a Curt 2" Trailer Hitch, the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit w/ 4-Pole Connector and Circuit Tester - 119178KIT, Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches (3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 10-1/4" Long - 7,500 lbs - D-4), Curt Pin and Clip Hitch Receiver - C21500, Rubber Tube Cover for 2" Trailer Hitch Receivers - I-728,Review, and 2" hitch ball 40038. Parts were delivered earlier than the initial estimate. Self installation (on a sloped drive way) took just under 2 hour. The fit of parts was very good, instructions and on-line video's were very helpful. My Kia did not have the wire plug in option, but the splice connections in the wire kit were easy to install. Most of the parts are hidden from view when the ball mount is not used.

I have a custom made tow guard. The ball mount I have was too short to allow me to attach the tow guard to my new truck. I searched the web and found just what I needed at etrailer.com. It's the only site I found that carried the size I needed. The product fits my needs perfectly. I can now protect my boat from rocks and other road debris when towing. Thank you etrailer.com.

WORKS GREAT TAILGATE NOW CLEARS TRAILER JACK

I purchased this unit to extend the trailer jack handle just far enough that I could open the tailgate on my truck with the trailer attached. It worked perfect. I tow a pop-up camper with 2006 Toyota Tacoma. Pricing was good and delivery was quick from etrailer. At first I tried to buy locally from auto parts store or camper store, but neither had in stock anything the right dimensions. The unit from etrailer is made in the USA, fit just right, and was better quality than what I saw locally.

This is the 10th order I have made from etrailer.com, most of them with multiple items. I cannot say enough about what great experiences I have had with etrailer.com. The website is incredibly helpful, the search tools are great, and the specs, videos and other information are very helpful. The items always ship right away, and arrive well packaged and promptly - and for me they have to cross the border to Canada. I recommend this site to my friends with trailers and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great experience - and who doesn’t!

I have a Toyota Tacoma pulling an A-Liner Expedition. Used a Ball and Ball mount from Wal-Mart last year. I upgraded to this and heavier rated Ball, and we noticed an immediate difference. E-Trailer staff, keep doing what you are doing. Your company and products have just earned a loyal customer. Thank You!!

Having searched and not finding what I wanted or perhaps not really knowing what I wanted, I called and talked to Cathy. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. She checked and guided me to a longer shank which will give me a longer turning radius, as the tongue on my trailer is short and is a problem. The unit is a solid piece of equipment. I had a clevis pin from a 1 1/4" shank and thought I would use that and not order another and she advised me that the pin for a 2" shaft is larger and I needed a new one. She was so good and accommodating I even asked for her boss to commend her for her good work and pleasant personality. Jlw

Received quickly. Happy with unit. The extra length is helpful for backing the trailer into tight areas by keeping the trailer a little further from the truck bumper.

- D-4
by:

Great fast service. The new one I purchased is a 10-1/4" long. My original was 8-1/2". I have a travel trailer and had a heck of a time turning with the 8-1/2". The new 10-1/4" made all the difference. I can turn the trailer without any issues. It has the same rating as my 8-1/2" also. Works great.

I have to back up a hill and around a corner with arthritis in my neck to park my boat. I installed a front trailer hitch on my suv and needed this longer shaft Ball Mount to keep the ball far enough away from my license plate and front bumber that I won't damage my vehicle. The unit fits the bill to a "T" and has already gotten compliments from others for its quality and stability. I look forward to fishing season so I can use it.

by:

It is too large to slide into the 2" receiver. I may have to grind off some of the coating ti get it slide in and out easily. There was no pin with the hall mount so I will have to get one.

I bought this ball mount to replace a shorter unit (8.5"-9") in order for the tailgate to clear the jack on one of my trailers when down. The first one that was delivered had a lot of damage to the powder coat finish due to rough shipping (UPS!). etrailer was very quick to send another out that arrived unscathed. Thanks again!

I wanted a longer hitch sleeve to prevent back the trailer winch into the tailgate of my pickup and this works perfectly for that purpose. Price was great too! Thank you etrailer!

I was throughly pleased with etrailers quick response and fast shipping. The ball mount I ordered was packaged well, and was good quality.I think I have found a good source for my towing-trailer needs.I'll admit there are not too many moving parts on a ball mount, but they got the job done and treated me right. Big thank you too everybody at etrailer, Billy Elkins

Perfect. Needed a receiver that sits a bit farther from the truck. This one will work great

Fit my application perfectly - I wanted more space between the tow vehicle and trailer jack so that I could open my tailgate with the trailer attached. Gave me just enough clearance. Shipping was fast, service was great - thanks etrailers!!

Well made heavy duty trailer hitch ball mount just what I needed so the tailgate would clear the jack stand

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • What do you Recommend for a Class 3 Cushioned Ball Mount Rated for 7,500 lbs. Without a Rise
I have two really good options for you that offer a zero rise. The Draw-Tite 2-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches part # 80796 has both a 2" and a 2 5/16" ball and is rated for up to 16.000 lbs. It does not have the cushioned feature you asked about but gets the job done. For the shock absorption you want the Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers part # 325-GH-1024 this also has the 2 and 2 5/16" balls and is perfectly suited for your trailer and tongue weight assuming it is 10-15%...

  • How to Get a Ball Mount with 0 inches of Rise or Drop
In order to get a ball mount that has effectively 0 inches of rise or drop you would need to get a Trailer Hitch Ball Mount, part # D-4, like the one you referenced that has a 2 inch drop, and then use a 2 Inch High Rise Ball, part # C40034. • Does Ball Mount Have To Place Trailer Ball Exactly Level
You will want to choose a ball mount that will place the trailer ball at the appropriate level so that your trailer is towed level, or within 1-1/2 inches plus or minus either way. • How Long is CURT Ball Mount # D-4 Versus a Standard Length Ball Mount
The ball mount is 10-1/4 inches long from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of ball hole, approximately 2 inches longer than what most consider as a standard length. If you are looking for something that is very long, take a look at # 80232, which is 16 inches long from hitch pin hole center to ball hole center. Or, if you need a specific length, I have included a link to our ball mount main page for you. I have also included a link to our ball mount FAQ.

  • Hitch Ball Recommendation for Curt D-4 Trailer Hitch Ball Mount
You will need a ball that matches your trailer coupler. The required ball size should be stamped into the top of the coupler. For a 1-7/8 inch ball you will want hitch ball # 19261. For a 2 inch ball you will want # 63849. For a 2-5/16 inch ball you will want # C40007. I have included a FAQ article on choosing hitch balls for you to check out.

  • Recommended Ball Mount That Will Work With Shank Mounted Bike Rack
The Curt Ball Mount, part # D-4 measures 10-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hole for the hitch ball as you mentioned. Since you said you need at least 6 inches, this ball mount would give you more than enough clearance for your bike rack. This ball mount fits 2 inch receiver openings and uses a hitch ball with a 1 inch shank like part # 40038 for a 2 inch diameter ball or part # C40051 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. We do have longer weld on receivers like # 325-GH-003 also. If you are looking to extend the length of your existing receiver, there are hitch extenders like # 80307 but these are not ideal if you're looking to tow as these will reduce your capacity. A longer ball mount like the # D-4 is a better option because your full hitch capacity is maintained....

  • Will Longer Ball Mount Increase Turning Clearance for Small Trailer When Backing Up?
Having an extended ball mount will help with giving you some additional clearance simply because it moves the pivot point back which changes your clearance at the outer edges. The Curt # D-4 is similar with 10-1/4 inch measurement. You may want to consider the Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop, Extra Long # D-26 which is 12-5/8" from hitch pin center to ball center. Then you will need a hitch pin like # C21500 and hitch ball like # 63845

There is not a required ball mount for this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 75673. Since you are worried about clearance I would recommend you use a Trailer Hitch Ball Mount, part # D-4. This ball mount has a distance of 10-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. You would have plenty of clearance to run this ball mount in the rise position. I attached installation instructions below as well as a review video of this hitch for you to check out.
