This is the best and strongest ball mount that exceeds my requirements . Also, it’s well made and nice in appearance. The ball is a great one too, but it could use a place to hold with a wrench during tightening and torquing the nut. Please incorporate my suggestion. Thanks 660762

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount

  • Can the Ball Mount # C45340 be Ordered with the Curt Hitch Ball # C40008 Already Installed
I do have a solution for you, but we do not install parts like the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount # C45340 and 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40008 before shipping them out. Any ball mounts that come with a hitch ball installed come like that directly from the manufacturer. If you do not need the full 17,000 lb capacity of the ball mount # C45340 that you referenced then you can use the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount # C45331 which is essentially the same exact ball mount with a 2-5/16"...

  • Are there Stainless Steel or Aluminum Ball Mounts
There have been stainless steel ball mounts in the past but they were pricey so aluminum is the way to go now. Aluminum offers corrosion resistance, lighter weight, and a lower cost compared to stainless steel so it would make a good option for you. I have included a link to the right to the aluminum ball mounts we carry. I have also included a link to a help article that covers how to measure to get a ball mount with the proper rise or drop needed to tow a trailer level. Aluminum...

  • Are There Any Made in the U.S.A. Heavy Duty Ball Mounts for 2" Receivers Available?
No. While Curt is an American company and manufactures a great deal of their products in the U.S.A., the Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mounts like the # C45340 is not one of those products. If you're looking for a ball mount that is made in the U.S.A., the B&W Heavy-Duty Ball Mount # BWBMHD30010 has a 16,000-lbs capacity and the same 1" rise/2" drop as the Curt model you were looking at.

  • 2-Inch 16K-Rated Ball Mount with Minimal Amount of Drop
The Curt 17K-rated Ball Mount # C45340 that you referenced has 1-inch of rise or 2-inches of drop depending on how you choose to use it. This is a Class IV ball mount. The other Class IV option with a capacity near to this (16K) and with NO drop or rise is Gen-Y item # 325-GH-051. This ball mount has two built-in hitch balls, a 2-inch and 2-5/16-inch, that are integrated into the ball mount. There is no need to purchase separate hitch balls or to deal with torqueing the hitch ball. We...

  • Ball Mount Recommendation With Near Zero Rise/Drop
The ball mount we have that has the closest rise/drop to 0 is the Convert a Ball part # AMSC2 which has a rise of 3/4 inches when fliped in rise position. With the tongue weight of the trailer loaded this should compress the vehicle suspension enough that you'd be right at level. For a 2 inch ball you'd then want the part # 40038 or for a 2-5/16 inch ball part # 63847.

  • 2 inch Hitch Ball Recommendation for Curt Ball Mount C45340
The ball hole diameter for the part # C45340 is 1-1/4 inch. For a 2 inch hitch ball to fit this the part # A-90 would work great as it would fit the ball hole diameter and it has a 10k capacity.

  • Will the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount Part # C45340 Fit a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount part # C45340 that you referenced has a 2,550 lb tongue weight (TW) and 17,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) rating. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically between 10-15% of its gross trailer weight so this ball mount would be plenty for your trailer. In order to add a hitch ball you are going to want to use part # A-90 for 2" or part # A-6 for 2-5/16". Please keep in mind that this ball mount has a 1" rise and 2" drop. I recommend taking a...

  • Recommended 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball for Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount # C45340
The Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount for 2 Inch Hitches # C45340 referenced in your question has a ball hole diameter of 1-1/4 inches. You will just need to make sure that the hitch ball you choose will fit this opening. For example, the B&W 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball # BWHB94050 has a shank diameter of 1-1/4 inches, so it will work well with the Curt Ball Mount. The shank length on this hitch ball is 2-1/2 inches, which is also compatible with the platform thickness on the Curt Ball Mount....

  • Recommended Gen-Y Hitch for 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 and Trailer with DO45 Coupling
It looks like the pin part of the DO45 (which takes the place of a standard hitch ball) has a shank with a 1-1/4" diameter so I recommend using the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount # C45340 with a Gen-Y hitch as this ball mount has up to a 17K towing capacity. For the Gen-Y hitch it all depends on the height of the trailer and if your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 is stock height or not. If your Chevy is stock height then you should be just fine with the Gen-Y Shank # 325-GH-303 which gives...

  • High Capacity Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 RAM 1500
For your 2019 Ram 1500 we have the Draw Tite hitch part # 41913 which has very high towing capacities of up to 15,000 lb total trailer weight. Looks like you already have a 7-way connector next to your license plate which your factory brake controller is connected to as well. You really only would need a higher capacity ball mount and you'd be set. For that we have the part # C45340 which has a 2 inch drop or the part # C45341 which has a 4 inch drop. Then for a hitch ball the part...

  • How to Torque Hitch Ball When Installing into Ball Mount
We don't have a combo of the Curt Hitch Ball # C40008 and Curt Ball Mount # C45340. The ball mount is extremely heavy-duty, rated up to 17,000 pounds. I think it's safe to assume you don't have a torque wrench rated up to 450 foot pounds just laying around. In which case you'll never really measure it at 450. When tightening the ball you want to make sure you get the lock washer so that it's completely flat. One way to help you do this is to put the ball mount in your hitch receiver...

  • Is it Okay for Ball Mount to Move in Trailer Hitch Receiver Some
What you are describing is actually pretty normal for a ball mount. There is almost always some tolerance between the trailer hitch receiver and the ball mount (or accessory) being installed which is why there are a variety of anti-rattle devices out there. Some accessories and ball mounts come with them built-in but if you have a standard ball mount there are aftermarket anti-rattle devices you can use. Technically the tolerance you have is fine but if you want to get rid of it we do have...

  • Best Class V Trailer Hitch for 2019 Ram 1500 Classic
The best Class V trailer hitch for your 2019 Ram 1500 Classic is the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15572 because it has the highest towing and tongue weight capacities and is a no-drill installation, not to mention the fact that it is made in the USA. This Class V hitch has a 2" receiver and boasts a 15,000 lb towing capacity and 1,500 lb tongue weight capacity which speaks to its strength, as does the lifetime warranty that comes with the hitch. Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 41528 does indeed fit your 1989 Chevy K3500 truck with deep drop bumper. It is rated for 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight when not using weight distribution. If you want a hitch that has a little more wiggle room in terms of capacity you can use # C15317 which is rated for 16,000 pounds when not using weight distribution. As you have a 2003 the correct hitch for you is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 14250. • Can Flash Ball Mount be Used for Trailer With GVWR of 15,000 lbs?
The Flash Ball Mount # DTBM5400 you purchased does have a tongue weight capacity of 2,000 lbs but its towing capacity is actually 14,000 lbs. The GVWR of your trailer is 15,000 lbs, which is the max capacity it can handle so with 10,000 lbs of tractor and gear, the weight of the trailer is going to determine if the Flash and its 14,000 lb capacity can accommodate your needs. If the trailer and gear is at or close to 14,000 lbs I recommend going with a higher capacity ball mount. In regards...

  • Solution for Needing Curt Ball Mount and Hitch Ball in 1 inch Drop Position Over 1 inch Rise
Since we do not have a version of the # C45331 with the setup in the rise position instead of the drop position your best option would be to remove the ball and reinstall it in the rise position or go with the part # C45340 and # C40008 which you could then attach to the ball mount in the rise position. The demand for ball mounts in the drop position is much more than in the rise position as tow vehicles generally are getting taller and taller while trailers mainly are staying same height....
