These hitches are the best! And I scanned the world over to find only hitches that are made in USA like I do every product I buy. This is a very ingenious design that allows some shock absorption that greatly quiets any trailering. I bought two full hitches one for each ball size so that I would never have to change ball again! Great product!

A year later, since I last reviewed these and riches still work beautifully. And they are so heavy duty and durable that it is the last hitch you will ever buy. I am a machinist and own a large CNC manufacturing facility in California. Products made in USA 99.9 of the time or far superior to anything else you can buy. It may be a little more expensive than the crap you buy at Walmart, but you were investing in our country and our workforce. Outstanding product!

Just received this mount and did the test fit with our trailer. We have not hit the road with it yet but I am confident it will perform perfectly. I am anxious to see how the cushioned feature works. We pull a box cargo trailer for business and just got a new Chevy HD pickup to tow with. It has a 2.5" receiver and hitch height is much greater than the Suburban we were using plus it had a 2" receiver. This mount is rated for far more weight than we will ever need but it was the only 2.5" size with 6" drop that I could find. We are very pleased with the product and the excellent customer service we got at etrailer. Thanks to everyone there for the very fast service and for keeping me informed as to the status of my order. well done!

Now that you have driven with the cushioned ball mount for a while, do you think the cushioned feature is beneficial?

Have now used this mount several times. It is VERY heavy duty and we get no where near its full capacity. I do like the cushioned feature. It noticeably reduces usual shocks that get transmitted to the tow vehicle which, in my opinion, reduces stress on driveline components. The 2.5 inch shaft size eliminates the need for a reducer sleeve for 2 inch mounts which firms up the whole vehicle trailer connection. Also increases comfort for driver and passengers. I did make one mistake however. I figured the amount of I needed by the book. The formula said I needed six inches of . I did not anticipate enough squat in the truck with trailer loaded. As it turned out, I had to use a two inch riser ball to put the front of the trailer where I wanted it. A four inch mount would have been sufficient but I still recommend this product.

I was a bit upset when I found out that my New 2020 F-250 receiver has a 2.5"
box !

Greg S took the time to listen exactly what my needs were and guided me in
the right direction !

Actually he caught a mistake I made when ordering, and personally called me
then followed up once it was delivered, Many companies could learn something
about Customer Service from etrailer.

Fantastic

Quick shipping and no problem getting it to work in my 2012 Ford F350. I have another one just like it for the 2" ball and bought a second one for the 2 5/16". Tows my 12' trailer really well and will be using the new one for a 20' equipment trailer.

One year later and both products working great. Towed the 20 trailer on a 1,200 mile round trip and the cushion mount worked better than expected.

by:

It was a bit pricey but totally worth it. No more bump from behind and it’s quiet. The hitch feels very solid while you’re towing. This is my review after using it for a year towing a car trailer.

by:

High quality piece. Have only towed a couple times. Surprised not many choices for 2 1/2in hitches. I did not want to mess with the converters to 2in.

by:

Just installed the new ball mount to my truck and it is a beast. This hitch is very well built and braced with extra welded support underneath hitch. So far very pleased but as being brand new haven't had the chance to treat it out therefore not a 5 start review, yet. Will drive home this weekend for a 4 hour trip will update after.

by:

I haven’t used it yet but looks well built and they shipped very fast. I strongly recommend using trailer!!

by:

Looks strong enough to handle 18k with gusset and thickness of the 6” drop, delivery was on time.

All good

by:

What an excellent piece of hardware. Totally cuts out the rattle from trailer rocking and provides a smooth quiet ride when pulling my trailer and driving over bumps in the road. Will definitely be purchasing from etrailer.com again!

by:

What a great way to shop for towing supplies! I live in a fairly large city, where I ran all over town shopping for the correct setup for my wife to tow her horse trailer behind our new truck. All that time and all it did was confuse me about what I wanted (needed).
In frustration, I went to the internet and found etrailer; nothing but facts and specs and great prices! In 10 minutes my 2 day job was complete, I had all the correct stuff ordered at a great price and it arrived promptly at my door. Rate it AAA+

by:

I was very pleased with the trailer hitch I ordered from e-trailer. It is really good quality and extremely heavy duty. It also has a great paint job. My hitch was easy to order, exactly what I needed and was delivered in two days. Very pleased!!

by:

I have a large dump trailer and this ball mount works flawlessly!

by:

etrailer delivered perfect execution - how often does that happen? I needed to buy a few "non-standard" parts and they had them in stock and shipped them immediately. Subsequently when I needed more stuff, I didn't search the web, I went straight to etrailer.

Thanks for delivering an exceptional value and service.

by:

Very high quality item better than expected. Better than other alternatives for the price. No more trailer balls lapping when brakes are applied with trailer delay.

by:

Pretty manly class V hitch. Still waiting on some balls. Wait, can I say balls?

by:

Very well made product and the service from etrailer was exceptional. My original order was incorrect as a result of my wrong measurements, and the service department was quick to resolve my problem.

by:

Heavy duty design for pulling over 10,000lb enclosed car trailer.

by:

Great Ball Mount - I thought it was a little expensive to start, but I would purchase again without hesitation having received the product. Much more heavy duty than I expected. Delivery time was better than expected. I will recommend to family and friends.

by:

Just as described. Comprehensive product information, photos and videos made purchasing online very easy and worry free. Order processing and shipping were lightning fast. A really great experience, will definitely shop here again.

by:

The hitch is very well built after one year has not bent at all and the rubber is still in very good condition.

by:

This company has a huge selection of everything, and two times on different orders their sales person called me late at night to inform me of a better selection and much better price. Who does that? It's like getting personal help in the store. Really good help.

by:

Extremely satisfied with this draw bar.

by:

Had what I wanted, when I wanted it and was shipped out right away. Kept me inform on status of order. One of the best internet companies to deal with.

by:

This is a great hitch - well-built and the cushioning is a great upgrade. No more 'THUNK' when pulling away at the stoplight.

  • Ball Mount for 2-1/2-Inch Hitch That Gives 8-Inches of Drop
The Convert-A-Ball 2-1/2-Inch Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSCV-6 provides height drop of 6-inches but since they do not offer one like it with 8-inches of drop you can instead check out the items on the linked page which provide 8-inches of drop. These include both fixed ball mounts like 12K Draw-Tite # 45291 and 20K Curt # C45460 and adjustable ball mounts like Bullet Proof # ED258.

  • Does Tongue Weight Sag Get Factored In When Picking Out Rise/Drop Ball Mount
This is a really great question! So ideally you have the trailer sitting as level as possible when you are towing. So that means that if your vehicle suspension is going to sag with the tongue weight of your trailer on the ball mount you'd want to compensate for that with the amount of rise/drop ball mount you select. How this normally works out is that you determine the drop needed (in your case 8 inches) and then go with a ball mount slightly higher like the Curt part # C45100 which...

  • Is Sag Caused by Trailer Tongue Weight Considered When Choosing Ball Mount w/the Right Rise or Drop
At most the tongue weight of a trailer would cause about 1/2 inch to 1 inch of sag at the ball mount (give or take a little and different for every vehicle). But on a 2016 Ford F-250 the suspension is potentially beefy enough to limit the sag to even less than that. The trailer can be off of level one way or the other (high or low) by as much as 1 inch and still be considered level. For cushioned ball mounts that fit a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver we have the following options: #...

  • Measurement From Hitch Pin Hole to Gusset on Convert-A-Ball 2-1/2 Inch Ball Mount
The Convert-A-Ball ball mount, part # AMSCV-6, has about 3-13/16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the gusset. Keep in mind there is a weld right there at the gusset so that measurement could slightly vary from one to the next but not by much. I measured three of them, and two were the same and the other was 3-7/8 inches so we're not talking much difference at all

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2013 Ford F-350 with Factory 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
The OEM Ford 2-1/2 inch receiver has more rounded edges. Many 2-1/2 inch accessories, in this case ball mounts, have more squared off corners. This difference causes the squared off accessories not to fit. In some cases, some of the powder coating can be removed from the shank on the accessory as long as none of the metal is ground off. That could work on a ball mount like # 45123 since it has more rounded corners than something like # RP45323. If you use an accessory that has more rounded...

  • Version of Convert a Ball Cushioned Ball Mount with 6 inch Drop That Fits 2.5 inch Hitch
Yes, the # AMSC6HD could be used with a hitch reducer sleeve like you mentioned but since these types of adapters can cause a bit of movement your best option would be the version of this ball mount that is designed to fit 2-1/2 inch hitches directly part # AMSCV-6. This has the same 6 inch drop but has a higher 18,000 lb towing capacity.

  • Ball Mount Recommendation for a Ford F450 with a 2-1/2 inch Hitch Opening
There are three ball mounts we offer that will work for the 2-1/2 inch hitch on your Ford F450 with a 2-1/2 inch opening. The problem that many encounter is that the Ford 2-1/2 inch hitches are very tight with round corners and many ball mounts like the Reese Titan Ball Mount # RP45323 that you referenced will not fit without modification. The ball mounts we have found to work on the Ford 2-1/2 hitches are the Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSCV-2, the Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSCV-4, and the...

Since you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch the easy answer is that what you want is the 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount # LTB6-25. Reason being Andersen does not make a ball mount for the larger 2-1/2 inch hitch size. The Weigh Safe 180 that you mentioned is a great option that will work well for you. • 10to 12 Extended Ball Mount For Class-5 Hitch With 2 Receiver?
In your question you state that you have a Class-5 hitch, and they come with a 2-1/2” receiver opening. You also state that you have a 2” receiver. I will offer a ball mount solution for either size receiver. For a 2” receiver you can use the 13-1/4” long Brophy # BM20 with 2” drop, or the 14-1/4” long Curt # D-28 with 6” drop. For a 2-1/2” receiver you can use the 12-1/4” long Convert-A-Ball # AMSCV-6 with 6” drop, or the 10-1/2” long Draw-Tite # 45291 with a 7-3/4” drop, or the 13-1/4”...

  • Is Any Maintenance Required With the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSCV-6?
The Convert-A-Ball Ball Mount # AMSCV-6 uses a polyurethane cushion which requires zero maintenance. My only recommendation is if you plan on always leaving the ball mount in with either a Pin & Clip # 74149 or Lock # e98881 is to use some Anti-Seize # LT37616 on the pin. This will help to reduce the problems removing the hitch pin if it left in and begins to corrode.

To determine the receiver size you have, I have included a link to an FAQ that will help. The Reese 2-1/2 inch Titan ball mounts like # RP45323 or the one found in # EBMK25318, tend not to fit the factory 2-1/2 inch receivers on Ford Super Duty trucks. You will need to use one of the Convert-A-Ball ball mounts. We have # AMSCV-6 with a 6 inch drop or 4-3/4 inch rise. We also have # AMSCV-4 with a 4 inch drop or 2-3/4 inch rise. • Weight Distribution Shank or Ball Mount with 6 Inches of Drop to Tow Trailer Level
It sounds like the trailer has a weight distribution system. You would just need a weight distribution shank that offers more drop such as # C17123 for a 2 inch hitch receiver or # EQ90-02-4900 for a 2-1/2 inch hitch. If the trailer does not have weight distribution then you will just need a ball mount that has the proper amount of drop or an adjustable ball mount. • Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2016 Ford F-350 with 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Since the tongue weight of the trailer will pull down a little on the truck you can go with a ball mount that has a 5 inch drop. This ball mount has a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch ball, a built-in tongue weight scale, and the height can be adjusted in 1 inch increments. It is also made of aluminum so it won't rust.
