Video Transcript for Ramp Springs Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install ramp springs for the 2000 pound torque rate for inch and a half shafts. The left hand side is part number RS16933LH, and for the right, you'll need part number RS16933RH.Now, these springs are designed to aid you in lowering and lifting these heavy ramps. If you don't have any springs installed, you know it can be quite a bit of a pain. As you're lowering your ramp down, you kind of have to be under it. You don't want to just let it drop .. Well, I guess you can, but you might cause damage to it, and vice versa. When you're trying to lift it up, you're going to lift up the entire weight.

With the springs installed, they've got a 2000 pound tension rating, so as we lower the gate, as we raise the gate, it's going to be much, much easier. Now, this is what I would call a medium/heavy duty utility type trailer. We'll also show you on a very heavy duty utility type trailer, the use of two of them for those much larger ramps, the triangulated style ramps. Those tend to be a lot heavier, so we'll show you that, as well.Just to give you an idea, however your ramp's held in place, you'll want to, of course, unsecure that, and then you'll see our ramp's going to come down much easier. It actually kind of floats there. We'll push that down.

That'll keep it closer to the ground. We can get our equipment on and off, then when it's time to shut them back up, much easier process than what you're probably used to, especially if you don't have springs, or if your current springs aren't in good working order. You can see our old spring. It's become worn, and it's not near as effective as it was. You see how that's pointing off, kind of in that rearward direction It just means it's been fatigued over time, so we're going to be able to replace it with a new spring. It's going to give us much more effect. Now, the left hand and right hand is going to determine which side of the pin you're going to be putting it on.

If you want it on the right side, you want a right hand spring, and if it's going on the left side, you're going to want your left hand spring. To ensure we get years of great service out of the ramp springs, they're made of a high quality alloy spring steel, so they're going to return to their original position for years and years. To ensure you have plenty of room, we're going to go over the specifications of the spring, just to give you an idea about the size. From outside of our spring to outside of our spring, we've got 2 1/2 inches. Inside and inside's going to be about and inch and a half. From the spring itself, to the end of each arm that sticks out, is going to be 4 inches, so you definitely want to keep that in mind, and make sure that you've got clearance for that, and also that, that spring will make contact with something within that 4 inch range. To begin your installation, you'll need to remove whatever's holding in your hinge pin. It's going to be the large inch and a half diameter pin that runs through here.

In our case, we've got a bolt and a nylon lock washer. We're going to use a 9/16 to get that removed. You also want to hang on to your hardware, because you're going to need this to put it back in. It keeps this pin from sliding in and out. You can see our old spring mounted here. We'll move our pin out, and the idea is to free that up. Now, this ramp's going to be very heavy, and when you pull that pin, it's going to want to fall down. You need somebody to give you a hand, or if you can handle it yourself, however you want to do it, just make sure, as you pull this pin, that, that doesn't fall down and hurt you. Now, we can remove that old spring, set it aside, and replace it with our new one. Now, we're going to be putting our spring on the other side. We've got an accommodation for one here or here, so it doesn't matter how you want to do it. Make sure you get it where you need it, though. Then, our gate hinge is going to go right in between there. As we install it, we can place that pin through. Now, as we replace our ramp onto the trailer, and install our pin, of course, we want to ensure that the pin passes through the middle of our spring, and we also want to make sure that the flange on the ramp goes in between the spring and the flange on our trailer. Now, to finish it up, we'll just reinstall the hardware that we removed to take that old one off.As we said, with these really heavy ramps, they look about the same as the other ones, but they're much thicker steel. It really is a problem, when it comes time to lower them. You're going to have to fight it. You're really going to have to put weight into it, and it can be slightly dangerous. If you have anything underneath there without steel toes on, you'll likely run into something. Same way, going up. Just make sure you get a good hold it.Then, you're putting yourself right underneath them, so if you we're to slip or your hand comes off, it can come back at you. Those springs are going to help us out a lot, with that situation. Now, just like before, we're pulling that pin out, although this time, we don't have any keepers to put it in, so we'll slide this one on, just like that, bring the pin in, a little further, we can get our other one put on.After we have our springs installed, there's a huge difference in the operation of our ramp. We'll go through that same process as before. You could see it actually hold my ramp there. At that point, we just need to press it down a little bit. That's going to make it much easier getting our equipment up and on it.Now, to raise it up, it takes a lot less effort, as well.Overall, our ramps are going to be much easier to use, but a big key is, they're also going to be much safer. That'll complete our look at the ramp springs.

Need two on each side… one is not enough

I’ve dealt with many companies online, etrailer is one of the best out there. I’ve bought many products from etrailer and the parts are reliable and so is costumer service. I always get the parts very quickly and have never been disappointed. Good job y’all!

Unfortunately I am working on a return. I am happy with etrailer. I have been getting great responses nice people. The item want work unfortunately and doesn’t look like you carry the size I need.
Thank you

I had to have 2 back surgeries, and I was not to pick up hardly any weight for a number of weeks. I had a neighbor help me install the ramp springs. After that I was able to lift the ramps with almost no effort at all. I am very glad I got the springs.

Very happy with the prompt delivery. Keep up the good work, Etrailer!

Exact replacement

The existing spring on my fold up ramps were not enough to raise the ramp easily. I added this spring to the ramp and it works great.

These ramp springs really took the work out of raising and lowering my heavy 3 fold ramps needed for a more long and level approach to our 10 ton trailer. I always looked for help when needing to raise them, now I can almost do it with one hand. It took a little work installing them because the old system had to be rebuilt somewhat. I kept the same 1" pins and used a 1 1/16" ID X 1 1/2" OD sleeve for the springs to work on. They were well worth my time. I`d rate this an excellent product.

the spring will be used to replace broken springs and they were a match for what is broken.

Great company

Heavy gates need a good set of springs to save your back! This product works great.

They were easy to install on my car hauling trailer. They are ok, but maybe I should have bought heaver springs. However, I think these will work. One of my old springs was bent when I bought the trailer. I wanted to replace them both, and have the same tension on both ramps. My are stand up ramps. Thanks. Don C Kokomo, IN.46902

The new springs have been a great help to me. At 74 and getting a bit weak, Ha Ha they are a welcome addition to my trailer. Thanks. I just bought a new RV light plug end to replace the old one. Havent gotten it yet, but am looking forward to installing it. The old one shorted out. Etrailer has been a great place to buy the items I need. Thanks again Etrailer.

The ramps on my equipment trailer were very heavy for me to lift as my back is not what it used to be. My son hurt his back and it was hard for both of us to lift the ramps. We received two springs on Friday and installed them Saturday morning. It took about 5 minutes per side maybe. What a difference, I can now lift the ramps off the ground with one finger. They really helped, thanks so much for sharing the [installation] video that I watched and that prompted me to try these.

Its still working great. Best and easiest thing we ever did to improve the trailer. No more strained backs

Fair price and quick shipping. Put it on and it works better than the original one on the other side ( 10 yrs old).

Great ramp helper springs!!

Just installed two of these springs last night on our truck's tailgate. Time will tell how well they hold up. Installation was easy, as we were replacing two springs that had failed after several years of use.

One of the springs broke. Waiting on the other to break before changing out again.

Heavy duty springs worked great. I was thinking about using hydraulics to raise and lower my trailer ramps until I found out about these springs from

I recommend this product, worked great!!!!!

My 16 ft mower trailer is loaded with tools from the shop rebuild so I have been having to use my 20 ft implement trailer to haul my sub compact tractor on when mowing the in-laws yard. The ramps are very heavy which was never a problem for occasional use but doing it multiple times a week was getting old so I went looking for a solution. These springs were easy to install and made all the difference in the world. The trailer is now much more user friendly. Wish I had bought them years ago.

Everything I get from etrailer is always top quality and delivery is fast. This spring will save my back as I have an extremely heavy gate.

1 year later the springs are working great! Great quality and price.

I have purchased this same item in the past without any problems. Naturally I thought I would purchase the same item again. They are easy to install and if I need to preload the spring (I usually have slight pressure on the spring when the ramp is straight up) I do this by welding the right size diameter pipe or rod under the tail of the spring. This works fine.. I have already painted them black and ready to pop them on. I would highly recommend the springs for any tailgate or ramp installation. Might also say the package arrived in four days.

Theese work to good. I have a 14k gooseneck and the ramps will only drop to a 45 angle. Spring is a little too strong. For 7 ton trailer ramps made of 3 in channel. I plan on modifing the ramps which should fix it.

They worked great for the set of ramps I built.
