Video Transcript for JR Products T-Style Hook and Keeper Door Holder Review and Installation

Hi, there RV and camper owners. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Jr Products, RV door keepers. These come in a 45, like we're showing off today, but you can also get it with a straight or a 90 degree. And that just depends on how far your door does swing open. This particular one here, we would hit the awning, if we would go any further open, so the 45 was perfect for this one. And this is what our latch looks like when it's installed.

You will have a keeper as well as a tether that will latch into it. The two pieces, one will install on your door and the other will install on the side of your camper or a motor home. You will receive hardware with this, so that way, if your old hardware was, kind of, whether it was rusty or just didn't look pretty anymore, you're gonna have ones, it's gonna match. This is gonna be a spring loaded mechanism on the tether here, and that's going to keep it upright, so that way it's not flapping around causing scratches and stuff, like just a free floating one would. This also ensures that when we do latch it in place that it holds it up into the section here, so that way it can't drop down and allow our door to open.

This is really nice, especially if you're in really high wind areas where you're worried about, hey, this this door is flopping around, it might come on undone. But not with this one, on the spring loaded mechanism it's gonna ensure that it stays in place. So you can see here when you're ready to keep your door open, you simply pull down on the tether and just slide it right up into the hook. The spring is gonna hold in there. You can see as we move this up and down, if anything, it looks like it's working it's way slightly higher than coming down, due to that spring loaded mechanism.

Being able to keep your door open makes things a lot easier, if you're loading gear in and out of your camper. It's great for the beginning of the season when you're loading stuff up. It's also great for the end of the season when you're cleaning it out. And if you're having company hanging out at your camp site, and it's a really beautiful day, maybe you want the doors open, let some fresh air in. You've got people coming in and out getting some drinks having a good time, having your doors stay open, can it make things a lot easier.

People opening and closing your door can wear out mechanisms. People can get fingers pinched. It's just a lot of extra effort keeping it open, nice and easy. And my favorite thing is, on those hot days and nights, I like some fresh air inside, so I can keep this door open, close my screen door to keep out any bugs, and I can enjoy some cool air while I relax. We'll begin our installation by removing our old one. You can see here that the tether that would attach to the other end of the bracket has broken off. And that's because the ones included on the Jayco are made of a plastic. We'll remove the four screws that are holding it on. And we're just using a Phillips head to do this. You do wanna make sure you save your hardware. And then, most times just give it a good tug and you can pull it off of there. If not, you can use a plastic trim panel tool to help you pry it off of there. We're going to remove the other side the same way. And we're gonna get some of this butyl tape that was on here, peeled off. We are going to be using some new butyl tape when installing our new ones, but we need to get this off of here first. It's all dirty, it's no good. So we're just gonna gently peel off the old butyl tape. So we've got the old ones removed. We can take our new ones here and we're gonna put butyl tape on the back side. We've got all the old one off there and everything. So now we're ready to go back together. For this bracket, we needed to face it with our spring loaded portion facing up in order to contact our latch, and have the correct angle for our door. So we're just going to line that up. We'll then take our new hardware, and I like to start each screw before running them down, just because the previous installer may have not had the perfect alignment to line up with our holes here. We are using the replacement screws that came with our our new bracket here. That way they match, and any excess butyl tape that squeezes out the back, we can just clean that up with a razor knife. We've got our other one here, we're lining it up. We put butyl tape on the back side of it as well, and we're just gonna run this hardware in. We do have the large opening at the bottom because our spring loaded mechanism is going to pull the latch handle upward there which we'll put it into the slot here, so it can't come out. And we're just running it right down the side, and it just peels right off of there. This'll give us a nice clean look, but ensure that we're protected behind it. So now we're gonna test it out. We'll open up our door, we'll drop down our latch, and there it goes, pulled in our door in place, nice and solid. Our installation at this point is complete. And that completes our look at JR Products line of door keepers..

At the moment, I can't complain about the products. My only complaint for now, I wish etrailers was as expedient about sending my product out, as they are asking my rating and opinion. It took too long to get out the door, literally.
